The Foundation of the RSHM and the Transformation of the Refuge by Kathleen Connell, RSHM -Video Two
The second video, "The Foundation of the RSHM and the Transformation of the Refuge," explores the founding of the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary (RSHM) and the pivotal changes made to the Bon Pasteur refuge. It tells the story of how Father Gailhac, with the support of dedicated women like Appollonie Cure, Eulalie Vidal, and others, established the RSHM on February 24, 1849. Initially focused on supporting vulnerable women, the refuge evolved as the sisters realized they needed a different approach. With Father Gailhac’s blessing, they shifted their mission towards educating young girls, caring for orphans, and other charitable works, resulting in the transformation of the Bon Pasteur into the Couvent du Sacré Coeur de Marie. This video also highlights the strategic foresight of the sisters, who purchased property for future educational endeavors, and the establishment of the Priests and Brothers of the Good Shepherd to support the RSHM’s expanding mission.
