The whole point of wealth for me is freedom. My magic number in my mind is $5 million needed at 65 to not worry about anything and i am halfway there. Since i am closing in on retirement, i am searching for an aggressive strategy to boost my Roth accounts and maximize the tax-free profits.

52 this year. Just diagnosed with cancer on Christmas eve. But surgery and much prayer has given me a new lease on life. THE FIRE IS LIT!! For the first time in my life the wife and I are on the same page financially. And with God and Dave's help we are moving like a run away train toward financial freedom.

"If your broke friends arent making fun of you, youre doing it wrong." My favorite quote, when I sold my 2016 Tacoma that had me $30k in debt and bought a cheap car in cash, my broke friends thought it was hilarious! But now im debt free and with my savings building up, soon ill be the one laughing! :)

We do not have to pay anything for our new mortgage.......but our plan is to pay it off in five years so that we can receive that rental money as income......

just sold a property in Portland and I'm thinking to put the cash in stocks, I know everyone is saying its ripe enough, but Is this a good time to buy stocks? How long until a full recovery? How are other people in the same market raking in over $200k gains with months, I'm really just confused at this point.

I feel SO AWFUL for being so mindless with money in these past 25-years. I lived without budgeting.. I lived in late-fees and overdraft city... I took out student loans to go to classes, and never did achieve getting that degree... Also, a few years ago, I drew out what little 401k savings I did have.. To think, if I had saved for all of these years Ive been working, I could be RETIRING soon!! ... (I take FULL RESPONSIBILITY for what I've done, and not done)... and now, So now, age 43, I've begun my financial make-over.

Can I ask you how I'm doing relatively compared to other people my age? I'm 27, and I have 2k in investments, 1300 in emergency, and $3k in a pension plan. I had $40k in student loans, and now I'm down to $10950 at 2.7% interest in 18 months. I should be finished paying off my loans in a year. I have a negative net worth, but I started my career a little later than most because I had to take longer in university due to some learning disabilities.

My annual expenses are 15,6 so if I put in overtime every single day, live on beans and rice, and get SUPER intentional, I WILL have my mess cleaned up by 2021, no selling required. Just a boatload of hard work and a healthy dose of self control. Turns out, you can make a LOT of great meals with rice, beans, or pasta!

5:35: “If people aren’t making fun of you, you’re probably not on track” I have had co-workers make fun of me for the car I drive for years. A year ago I had a great credit score, a car payment, paying off credit card balance each month without incurring interest and a low mortgage loan rate, and I was stressed out because I can't save a dime... Today I got rid of all my credit cards, paid off the car loan, have 8 months expense as emergency fund, saving 15% towards retirement, saving for college for my 3 kids. My score went down to "good" and they colored it "yellow", so when I am ready to refinance my mortgage to 15 I'll probably get a higher rate... But I don't care as I now have a realistic plan to pay it off in 8-10 years... I don't stress about savings anymore all because I took FPU and changed my ways... Sure I have many friends who see me as weird and unwise with money and investment and finance in general, but I've decided to be stress free instead...

Curious, is there a way which you can do all of that but still keep a good credit score?

YellowStillBurn ... I know this is an old comment, but if you have a great interest rate on your mortgage, don’t refinance. Simply pay extra towards the principle on your current mortgage.

I live in London and I’ve never bought a car on finance before, I always pay cash for my cars. Most expensive car I’ve used I paid cash for it $12,000 .... a lot of my friends pay car notes of between $700-850 monthly....and I know some struggle to pay it.

I would definitely put emergency money in a fund where I could get the money out in a day or two instead of a normal bank account. There, money grows by 1-5% instead of earning 0.05% interest or whatever your bank gives you. Always make more money if it's possible.

Finally got my FU money account filled up. Feels good and to be honest it gives you a certain swagger at work and doing other business. I work construction so I thought having a year's worth of cash is important cause while I make good cheese it's very seasonal. And an injury early in the season might mean I don't work for a whole year. Now I plan on dumping 30percent into the 401k and using the other income I have to bankroll a business and start trying to become my own boss.

DAVE! I had a dream a few nights ago after I paid off my credit card where I got a letter that said that you were going to adopt me and be my dad because I was almost done baby step 2, and then Rachel called me and said that she was going to help me write a will and it was the best dream I was sobbing hysterically and was heart broken when I woke up. Can you still adopt me or is it too late? I'm 21 and have my starter emergency fund and a 4000$ student loan left. Dave please.

Dejana Zivkovic I'm happy for you, that's awesome. i'm also 21 and own my 2012 infiniti g37 coupe s and also have a few stocks and a small savings but I still think a will is excessive. Unless you have children I think you should get a few years under your belt before taking that step. That's just my opinion but I think its great that there are other 21 year old's are interested in controlling their finances and building wealth.

You can find some decent high yield savings account for something like this, though that's little more than 1% a year as he said. Not a lot, but as your emergency fund grows during step 3, making a few dollars a month at the least feels good.

People ask me all the time, "does David's system really work? The answer I have is, "it works for me", you might want to try it. And it's true that you will be breathing easier with every bill you pay off, with every step you complete, you will be less worried and closer to financial stability.

Love the no nonsense approach a lot of people nowadays want to look rich they buy what they cannot afford glad I am good with my finances. I am in my late 20s bought my property thanks to savings and delayed gratification. A lot of people spend more than they earn to keep up with the Jones. If you lose your job today how many months savings do you have to survive on always keep a rainy day fund.
