OFFICIAL LYRICS are now out on Spotify so here are the final corrections: 1:10 - “And so TIRED with age” 1:24 - “Let our bodies lay, while our hearts WILL STAY” 1:36 - “Now, if your convictions were a passing PHASE” 2:22 - “Only to watch the ROOTS corrode” 2:40 - “Let our bodies lay, while our hearts WILL STAY” 3:25 - “(You look stressed out!)” 4:19 - “And you must build an ALTAR where it rests” (this one was just a typo my bad lol)
flightless jade you did a great job and whereas Gerard does say “you look stressed out” in the live performances he definitely said “let’s flip out” in this recording. Spotify isn’t always right. Also I’m personally convinced he sings and so time , with age , also it makes more sense .
I'd take Spotify lyrics with a grain of salt. They're drawn from Musixmatch, and since their lyrics are often uploaded and curated by regular users, they're sometimes wrong.
My only critic of this song is I wish the vocals were turned up so it was easier to hear without a lyric video. But other then that mcr is making a good comeback.
@@YOUMADSTAYMAD considering the band mixed it themselves in quarantine guess they better quit making music. No need for you to be so bitter over a song.
I’ll never overcome the part where it says “he was there the day the towers fell and so he wandered down the road and we build towers of our own” referring to the 9/11 which Gerard witnessed and pushed him to create the band and then when everyone tried to follow their paths but it was hard. Like if I thought this song was gonna be good, it’s even better than that and higher than my expectations by a lot. Now excuse me while I cry.
I actually think this song is about Trump and the mark he left on America and the world. "See the man who stands upon the hill." The hill is Capitol Hill, also a high echelon of society as in Working Class Hero, *wanna be like all the folks on the hill". "He dreams of all the battles won." Trump prided himself on perceived victories, and also promised many things he failed to accomplish. "If your convictions were a passing phase May your ashes feed the river in the morning rays" Trump changing his stances constantly, and also the political conservatives and right leaning people's idolization of him, only to turn on him later when he suggested things like people getting vaccinated. Also sounds a bit like wishful thinking that he or anyone who supported Trump and now regrets doing so should lie in the bed they made. It also comes across as a bit of a death wish. "And as the vermin crawls We lay in the foundations of decay" Trump continues to have support on fringe platforms, while our country was left picking up the pieces after he left office, and we are regressing as a society, his term serving as a catalyst for the beginnings of a societal collapse. "He was there, the day the towers fell And so he wandered down the road" Trump was famously in New York City on the day the Twin Towers fell, and his office was a few blocks away. He walked out and a reporter interviewed him, and he boasted about his building (incorrectly) now being the tallest in Manhattan. "But it's much too late You're in the race, so we'll press And press 'til you can't take it anymore" The seed of Trumpism already spread throughout society, and as he vies for a second term, all the liberal left can do is put pressure on him and his campaign, and hope that he gives up on another term in office. "Take his body as a relic to be canonized, now And so he gets to die a saint" Trump became more than a man, but a symbol of society's worst traits and impulses. If he died now, many followers would still idolize and worship him. It also seems like wishful thinking that he would die literally or figuratively. "But she will always be the whore" Could be Melania, but probably is Stormy Daniels. Given how much the right hates abortion and female sexuality, she is probably seen this way by them. "You must fix your heart" Trump has shown himself to be callous, racist, ethnicist, zealous, and misguided several times. "And as we stumble through your last crusade" Society caught up in his last bid for power, in a man as aged as he is, it will probably be the end for him. "When you welcome your extinction in the morning rays" Waking up and feeling like you'd rather be in the eternal peaceful sleep. "Get up coward" Gerard doesn't want him to just lay down and die, but to answer for the things he has done without hiding away or finding refuge in death.
The trump theory does make sense but it doesn't. This is a reflection on Gerard and all the band members! Anyone who has done their research on My Chemical Romance knows they have had some rock bottom moments and some very very high moments this isn't a take on politics this is a never give up on urself even when the foundations of ur life decay and die
In my mind, I see My chemical romance as the old League of superheroes who had protected us all those years ago and are battle worn and tired, yet they came out of retirement to save us again when we truly needed them the most. I will always love them
Golden comment right there, dude. 👍 I think *a lot* of us My Chem fans feel the same way. I can honestly say I’ve been going through the ringer for the past several years, but even moreso the past two years… So the timing of them dropping a new track that hits like this is insane.
@@kattastrophe7240 Thank you for taking the time to reply. I was hoping there was someone out there who felt this way too. I'm sorry to hear you've been struggling. I'm in a similar boat myself the past few years, so I get it. I hope they put out more tracks soon, but for now this is more than I ever expected again, and I'm super grateful.
@@stevemarsh1856 You’re 100% not alone in feeling that way. 😉 This song feels like an opener to a full album. I feel pretty confident there’s a new full album incoming. (I can only hope I’m right in thinking that.) But I do agree, this was more than I ever could have expected at this point. 🖤
I took my daughter to the Raleigh show a couple weeks ago, this was their opening song. I've never heard their music before and I was blown away. I scolded her the next day for not playing ANY songs for me prior to the show. And she knows I love punk and metal. I have been playing this song on repeat
very very late but i love hearing stories of older generations discovering newer bands and actually liking them instead of brushing them off as bad and "poser music" due to the time they were released:)
This song sent me back to a teenage mindset, upon hearing it I immediately scrawled this quote on my arm like I used to do as a suffering teenager listening to their songs to survive
I went through my first break up when I found MCR, we would drive around aimlessly listening to 3 cheers. when we broke up my saviour was sitting on a wall near my parents listening over and over. I'm going through a break up rn and this came out at the right time. "cool" people would always say "lol MCR fan cut yourself". hell no. this band saved my life before and they're doing it again. best band of our generation. not only the music but the legions of lives they saved
likely actual lyrics: See the man who stands upon the hill, He dreams of all the battles won. But fate had left it’s scars upon his face With all the damage they had done. And so, time, with age, It turns the page. Let the flesh submit itself to gravity Let our bodies lay, Mark our hearts with shame, Let our blood in vain, You find God in pain. Now, If your convictions were a passing faith, May your ashes feed the river in the morning rays. And as the vermin crawls, we lay in the foundations of decay. He was there the day the towers fell And so he wandered down the road. And we would all build towers of our own, Only to watch the roots corrode. But it’s much too late, You’re in the race, So we’ll press And press til you can’t take it anymore. Let our bodies lay, Mark our hearts with shame, Let our blood in vain, You find God in pain. And if by his own hand his spirit flies, Take his body as a relic to be canonised. Now, And so he gets to die a saint but she will always be the whore. (You look stressed out) Against faith (cage all the animals) Against all life (cause the message must be pure) Against change (you can wander through the ruins) We are plagued (but the poison is the cure) You must fix your heart. And you must build an altar where it swells. When the storm it gains, And the sky it rains, Let it flood, Let it flood, Let it wash away. And as you stumble through your last crusade, Will you welcome your extinction in the morning rays? And as the swarm it calls, we lay in the foundations… Yes, it comforts me much more, Yes, it comforts me much more To lay in the foundations of decay. GET UP COWARD. [these lyrics are so perfect everyone say thank you my chemical romance]
This song stunned me into silence. A new MCR Song!?! And its 6 Minutes of Pure Musical Bliss!?! And the Lyrics ripped my fucking heart out in two seconds flat!?! Holy shit. This has been a rough timeline to live in, but at least we’re in the one where MCR rose from the ashes and brought us this masterpiece.
some corrections based on my hearing: 1) Let our blood IN VAIN 2) unsure - it could be "if your convictions were a passing phase" since this is a closer rhyme and the S sounds similar to "th" even on the next line on "rays" but "faith" sounds more on theme so idk 3) "so we'll press AND PUSH 'til you can't take it any more" 4) Altar (not alter) There are a few others I'm 50/50 on but I hope an official lyrics gets released soon bc this song is too good and I need to know I am shouting the right words lol
@@flightlessjade no worries, in pain makes sense too - I think the video says "invade" but in vain / in pain both sound closer. (Also I feel like working out new MCR lyrics for a video is such a nostalgic feeling lol)
I discovered MCR during really hard times when I was like 10 or 11 and their songs carried me through it all. I'm now 19 tuning on 20, working for the first time ever, facing a lot of new things that really stresses me out, and they're back again. What a great time to be alive.
If your only 10 or 11 by the time you start listening to MCR songs then that means you won't know shit about them and your still a child even now.zal la machi liek la in rahhh i sie tret trut!!!lalchawimawi ka ngai kucu nel tila!!!😤😏
They're music understood me when I was a teenager now that I am 30 years and I don't know wtf i'm doing with my life and feel Lost they came back and save me again!
Great song! Really pulls on the heart strings. I’m not gonna lie though I was really hoping to see Gerard pursue more heavy vocals like he did with Matt heafy ! Can’t wait to see hear more new MCR though
I love how this like a combination of all they're past albums so beautifully mixed together to make the most amazing come back song. They couldn't have done it better.
After afew replays I can already sing along to this song, My Chemical Romance you knew we would Carry on, and your going to Carry the Torch for us this time.
see the man who stands upon the hill- foundations of decay witness the man who raves at the wall… over the mountain, watching the watcher- set the controls for thts
i get so much of every era from it honestly! starts with danger days vibes, but then the harder parts definitely remind me of the earlier stuff. it also reminds me a lot of b-sides like bury me in black and all the angels!
don't even say! I was like 13 when I first heard them and it was in 2008. I'm crazy about them since day 1. And om Thursday I'm going to my first MCR concert! It's crazy!!!
@@demnbrown I hope they will come with just one more album. I want to have just one more chance to see them live and this time I'll be waiting even 3 days in queue to be right in front of them 😅 Hope they will come to Europe again. This concert was something more than just normal gig for me personally. 😉
Wow He was there the day the towers fell hit hard. I was in middle school about 30 minutes away. I know that day changed the world forever, but I remember never being the same that day. So many loved ones and friends who had loved ones were lost that day. And I remember finding My Chemical Romance a year later… they were a small band from Newark across the river from where I lived.. Damn I’m so glad they’re back. Crazy how things happens. We all ended this crazy two years with the pandemic. Much needed
This is easily one of my favorite mcr songs, when I heard it live I literally just stood there with my mouth wide open while everyone was singing along it was one of the best experiences of my life, literal insanity..
This is so amazing it reminds me of their early days. They are coming baby and hopefully they can take their old sound and add a little more. But this songs reminds me why I fell in love with their music in the first place. Welcome back my chemical romance the black parade is coming back and we are ready.
MCR is the band of my teenage days, there is no single fucking emo rocker that doesn't know these amazing guys. Oh my gosh, this is the new wave of rock music, it was Kings of Leon last year 2021, now My Chemical Romance and the great Red Hot Chili Peppers, fuck this is the reborn of rock music💯🤘
Hearing this playing on SiriusXM Alt-Nation and I thought it sounded like MCR at first, then realizing that it is really Gerrard's voice. In my head "What the hell? Why I havent heard this song before?" I looked into my phone and check the title, googled it and found out that it's a new single. A sudden jolt of happiness and excitement rushing through my veins, I never thought hearing a new song from this legends. Here I am, at 34 rocking and blasting my audio like I'm in my High School and College years. Thank you for the memories and for moments like this. MCR for life.
It’s interesting that this year is the year I’ve decided to listen to mcr instead of during my high years when mcr was the most prominent. I’m definitely someone destined to always be out of the loop.
This is so joyful and wonderful for me because a few years down the line after they broke up, I was still insisting they would get back together some day. NOBODY believed that they would after so much time and thought that I just couldn’t accept it (which was partly true, but even aside from that, I truly believed in general). I just had a feeling about it, and it finally happened!!! The day has finally come for us to once again, join the black parade ☠️ 🖤
They opened with this in Vegas and it was so insane when the song got harder everyone screamed and died simultaneously lol his screaming is even better now than in bullets 😍😍
I gather from this song that… the world is a shitty decaying place, but its far too late you’re already in the race. So we will carry on, just as he always said. And with the roe vs wade going on, the ending seems heavily reflective on that.
The more I listen to this song, the more I realize this is a love song to the older Emo generation like me. We have been with MCR for so long and this is an anthem to how we're so tired now of everything. However, no matter how long we keep walking, MCR is with us.
I can't even speak about this amazing song without getting all choked up! It rips my heart out! Never has a bad made me feel this way! Thank you MCR for always being authentic! I can't wait to see what comes next!
"He was there, the day the towers fell" I remember about Gerard witnessed 9/11, thats why he started mcr. Their first song is Skylines and Turntiles, inspired from that tragic event. However, I'm so happy theyre back and this new song is f amazing.
I knew this was mcr!! I heard a small snippet of it on the radio once, but didn't catch the name. I knew it was them however because of Gerard's voice. I tried googling lyrics but got no result. I'm so happy RU-vid randomly recommended it to me
I love this!!! i'm so sad i wasnt really much in a emo phase when this came out, i did know about MCR at 2021 but then emo phase died but atleast its back now! i hope they're able to make more
