During World War II, General Motors produced everything from tanks, trucks, airplanes, and machine guns, but few are familiar with the little one-shot pocket gun that GM created for psychological purposes.
The theory was, this gun could be used by locals to procure the service weapon from an occupying soldier. The sole purpose was to be the gun used to get a better gun.
EA (Electronic Arts Inc.) featured this gun in their popular video game series ‪@Battlefield‬.
Shooting USA is a Television show that airs every Wednesday on Outdoor Channel.

Most battery operated devices today don't come with batteries. But the liberator gave you 9 extra bullets when they only expected you to fire one. Excellent value.

Девет куршума не са малко. Достатъчни за тридневна престрелка.

If you're a resistance fighter or someone being harassed by either the Germans or the Japanese something like this is going to be better than nothing at all. Or as some pocket-gun enthusiasts say "it's either this or a bag of rocks." I remember seeing parts of this Chinese movie where the locals are trying to fight with improvised weapons including clay pots with flammable liquid in them. Something like this given to such fighters, while far from ideal would be highly welcome to someone in need of a gun to fight with.

That's what its purpose was, it was meant to kill a Nazi and take their gun.

I have one that my uncle left me,but it doesn't have any box with it.my uncle picked it up when ww2 was over in Germany and just brought it back home with him.and he almost got about having it until about 30 years ago.and he told me about it when we were trying to clean out his basement and me and him found it.so I went out and bought him some ammo for it after we checked and cleaned it up.and your right that about 15 to 20 feet is the limit on this gun to be able to hit anything.he had this gun all these years and had forgotten about it and had never ever shot it.and just like the old saying goes that "he could not hit the broad side of a barn" well with this gun that old saying is just about right now.my uncle died this past October of this crazy virus,he was a great person a doctor to.but to me he was my hero, best friend and uncle all in one.in 1978 I graduated from high school I enlisted in my beloved marine corps for 22 years until I was diagnosed with full blown colon cancer and my uncle help take care of me.and after 7 colon cancer surgery's now I'm doing decent I'm living on my farm here in Virginia not far from where I was born with my wife and mom and dad who sold our house that we were born and raised in just so they could come and built them a new house right next to our house on my farm.my dads a ww2 veteran to of the Normandy invasion and the battle of the bulge now.and him and my uncle were brothers.my dad is 95 and mom is 92 and still living and still in great shape and health to this day.the gun my uncle left me and many others to that he left me are not for sale and never will be.no money amount can or will be enough to ever buy them, because to money can ever bring back my uncle and the fun over the years we had hunting and shooting our guns together!!!!!

@@kafakafaa3950me to but I haven't drunk a beer in over 15 years.its not that I'm against it now but it just doesn't mix well with the medicine I have to take for my colon cancer if you know what I mean.but still it would be a lot of fun to be able to get out and shoot some.here in my farm after I cut my grass for hay I can shoot up to 1100 yards away.and I have 2 long range rifles by savage.a ba 10 stealth 6.5 creedmoor and a ba 110 in 300 Winchester magnum and I do love them both.plus I just got me the new Taurus raging hunter in 357 magnum in all black with the 8-3/4 inch barrel that ported last week.but haven't got the chance to shoot it yet,I've have almost 500 guns in my collection now I just guess in a gun nut.plus bows I've got to and crossbows.im the local nut who people bring there guns and bows to me to work on or sight in for them.i can sight in a gun at 100 yards with only 2 to 3 shots so that leaves my friends or family members a lot more ammo left over to shoot and hunt with.plus my collection of old muzzleloaders and lever action rifles.only thing I don't have is a 45 calber hawken muzzleloader made by Thompson center now.i reload my own ammo and try to shoot as many pistol, long range rifle and muzzleloader tournaments as I can.but with this big pandemic it's really hard to find one anywhere anymore around here.me and my friends shoot our long range 22lr rifles plum out to 500 yards here in the summer's and we have 1 trophy for the winner but if he ever gets beat each year then he has got to give that same trophy over to the guy that beats him.just a lot of fun between us friends.well got to go I've got a doctor appointments to be at here for my cancer ok now you be safe and take care of your self and family ok!?

It's kinda funny how things can bring a family together. My grandfather was a WWII vet. He was 3rd Marine Division on Guam and Iwo. He passed away in 1979 but he had his "Iwo Gun". He had a Garand that he said was the rifle he carried on Iwo Jima and Guam. About ten years ago, we started piecing together his WWII history. First thing we found out was his "Iwo Gun" was manufactured in 1953. That confused us. We dug into all his letters home. After the war was over he asked my grandmother if he could keep some of his pay to party with. We do not have her letters back to him but we assume she said no because he asked again. His last letter says "Sorry I can't send more money home I am buying my rifle from the military" After doing all our research, we believe he wanted money to party with so he lied about buying his rifle. We found out that buying your rifle after the war wasn't even an option. We think he lied to have some pocket money after the war and then he picked up a Garand at some later date. Anyways, that Garand is still in the family. For decades we all believed it was the very rifle he carried. We now know it wasn't, after we figured out his little trick to get party money but we still call it his Iwo gun. We now do the air quotes thing when we say "Iwo Gun". Anyways, it's a part of the family history.

It DID have limited use in Combat. There is one case of the German Police reporting us of it. Because the resistance did not keep records of their activities, there were probably more. In the Asian theater some have been found in remote places, so it was at least provided there.

There are numerous historical inaccuracies in this video. Just to give one example, the FP-45 was known as the Liberator during WWII. It was identified as such in a 1944 OSS weapons catalog.

It were meant to be one hit guns, it must be strong enough to kill at the first shot. Hence the calibre.

Those were fast and easy to make, cheap to make too. They only cost $2.00 ($38.00 today) each to produce. You needed to have a lot of guts to use that and you had to be right on top of your target.

I think it wasnt used because the of the tumbling of bullets, which would have resulted in the user being shot instead. They is how the military thinks of weapons. One cannot have a weapon that wounds/kills when it "wants to" The reason why they didnt make rifled barrels was that the USA was using cut rifling in the beginning of war which takes time. It was not until the later part of war that another faster method was used to create rifling hence no recourses to rifle the barrels.
