I sometimes miss that most common scent of the late 1960s and '70s, cologne + faint cigarette. If one person didn't smoke, the spouse or some friend or neighbor who visited a lot did. With women, there was often eau de hair spray included.
Man, I could go for a cigarette! Fred, loved what you pulled up from this week's Flixerator. Would love to see that Ralph Bellamy show and Dracula A.D. 1972! Thanks for the show! 🙂💓💓💓👍
I was only two when they banned cig commercials so I am seeing these for first time! Lol! Thank you Fred for all you do and I am grateful I have you to enjoy!
Fred......love Sunday mornings where I'm able to drink my caffeinated beverage and watch one of these "AV Time capsules" you put together every week or so. Definitely a new Sunday ritual.
As a young kid living in South Africa, I LOVED that Marlboro view of America! Not the cigarettes, not what’s being advertised, but the bigger view of how Americans saw themselves!!! It just absolutely spells a hope for the future and the wide expanse and endless opportunity of the “American West”.... You can imagine my disappointment when I finally visited the US and came to find so many Americans hating their own country!!!!
Too bad cigarettes are bad for you, because they were so enjoyable. When my doctor asked if I'm a smoker, I had to tell the truth, "Not in this century."
@@FredFlix I've been watching the original Lost In Space series. When I was a kid, still too young to have a girlfriend, I had a crush on Penny (Angela Cartwright). Most boys did, I think, because she seemed like the perfect girlfriend. Fun classic series.
Loved it thank you so much the Marlboro commercial brought back good memories visiting my grandmother s house that commercial would come on just before gun smoke
That Marlboro theme has such an impact on me. It was the one consistent theme throughout my sixties childhood that really stood out in commercials. I've never even seen the movie....
In that ABC promo for the 1963-'64 season the Fred Flix favorite "The Outer Limits" began it's 2 season run. " The Patty Duke Show" began it's 3 season run. As did " The Jimmy Dean Show". " Burke's Law" ran for 2 and a half. " The Jerry Lewis Show"was an unmitigated disaster. Cancelled after only 3 months. Replaced in early January w/ "The Hollywood Palace". Which ran for 7 seasons.
I like how towards the end of the video you get "The Honeymooners" wishing everyone a Merry Christmas, and then a sing along for our countries National Anthem. We were a proud country back then with simple values. Neither one of those would be politically correct now a days, and if shown the network TV station would probably be cancelled. I'm trying to be funny but in reality it's pretty sad. Thanks for the video and memories!
The bull is glad he's smoking a 100 - plenty of time for him to get away. :) Also, I never watched HBO in the 70s, but I've never seen ballet one single time on HBO.
Phil Silvers next to last television appearance was in an episode of Happy Days which aired in November of 1981. He appeared w/ his daughter Cathy ( who was recurring as Jenny Piccolo).
Fred, I always enjoy watching your channel. Going back in time when I was growing up in the early 60’s and remembering shows I forgot about. If you like really good mashup shows, check out Steve Smith Playhouse Theatre here on RU-vid. It will make you and your other viewers laugh. Steve is the guy who created and played Red Green on the Red Green show. I don’t know if you’ve ever seen it. It’s a Canadian show, but Playhouse Theatre is mashups of old 50’s monsters and sci-fi movies. I think you’ll like it. Keep the blasts from the past keep coming.
I always wondered why Wonder Woman had a different outfit when she rode a bike or swam, but it took me a long time to realize it was so that you didn't know it was a stuntperson doing the riding and diving.
Fred, I wish I could have seen the Stocard Channing show but I use to live in Edmonton Alberta where they made SCTV show . It was made at the Global Edmonton station.
3:32 Eventually NBC liked what SCTV had to offer & took it in for a late night Friday slot after the SCTV syndicated series had a few years of success. I generally liked SCTV a lot more than SNL. 4:44 This is from Christmas 1951 or 1956, as I LOVE LUCY mentioned Christmas in both episodes, and Lucy sings about the audience's trees on "Monday night", and Christmas Eve was Monday night both those years. 7:47 "The New ABC" was born Sun., Sept. 15, 1963. Some of its new shows, like Patty Duke's show and THE FUGITIVE, had a few years of success. Others, like 100 GRAND and Jerry Lewis' 2-hour Sat. night show, were huge flops. ABC did get something out of Jerry's show by recycling his theater as HOLLYWOOD PALACE the next Jan.
@@thewkovacs316 The only early cable I remember back then was Wometco Home Theater. It had a scrambled signal. You had to have a box attached to the TV to descramble the signal. A friend of mine had it. We watched "Fatal Attraction".
@@donnamariedemaio there were different systems in different parts of the country. i remember the scrambled channels my dad got the early version of cable for our home, because reception with rabbi ears was terrible...even without a direct hookup to the tv, the box sent a signal to the tv. he paid only for basic, and i remember the one scrambled channel that on occasion showed softcore porn i used to watch to catch a quick glimpse of bewbs
Do you have something to tell me, Fred? Is it over between us? Are you breaking up with me? I haven't been getting any notifications of your new videos. Was it something I said? Don't you like my coffee? Do I have doggy breath? Is there something wrong with the way I iron your shirts? Should I just leave now??? NO! I'm not leaving. I will just have to pay more attention. And I don't make coffee or iron anything. See you(r) videos soon.
@@FredFlix I knew you would take my comment well. FredFlix is not the only channel that has gone MIA. I wanted you to know I haven't abandoned your channel. I am a faithful watcher. Your videos are keeping me from losing my last few marbles. Thank you.
