Company film produced during the late 1940's by the New York Central Railroad to show freight yard operations. This film also shows some great steam and early diesel locomotives.

My great grandfather worked for them! 🙏 Thank you for this! I have sent it to my family members including my 87 years old father!

Any shot of the New York Central is a good shot sound or no sound. I wish I was alive to smell NYC smoke for real!

My grandfather was a yardmaster in DeWitt. My father and all of his brothers also worked for the NYC out of East Syracuse at one time or another. It was always fun visiting East Syracuse for family events. I'd gobble down the food as fast as I could, then head for the tracks which were three blocks away.

[PROBLEM] Audio cuts out at 1:30 and stays silent until 9:10. It cuts out again at 15:38 through 17:36. (Nice movie otherwise!) A second unrelated movie about yard switching starts at 18:25!

It’s crazy to think that most if not all of the steam locomotives in this video are now long gone.

I'm truly sorry about the sound..My grandpa had these old films... I had to transfer them digitally, then make them 4K I didn't know the sound was messed up. It wasn't my fault..It was the old film.

At about 23:16 is the Geep going through a spring switch? It looks like the switch is against the loco and then the signal moves.

We called them racor switches at CPR. You can run through the switch as seen and they lock into that new position. A spring switch always springs back to its original position. It is more robust and mainly used on siding turnouts.
