i think the fact that france was at war with most of europe and had a lot of revolutions and still survived and started pummeling the allies might be one of the greatest military feats in all of history

it's saddening for marie, although she was out of touch, she still donated to charities and helped the peasants. she was also accused of buying a very expensive necklace even though she didnt. she never said the famous "let them eat cake". marie came to versailles as a young girl and was hated by the aristocrats. she was soft hearted and gentle.

Napoleon had a knack for getting the attention of influential politicians. He actually got tight with Robespierre and his brother, and after both were executed, he was imprisoned but found innocent. This revolution is so interesting. It shows that you can all agree that things need to change yet disagree violently about what change looks like. And even pursuing the loftiest ideals can end up in inhuman loss of life and power struggles causing chaos.

A bit of poetic justice for Robespierre's death is he tried to shoot himself to escape the Guillotine, but the shot went through his jaw instead, silencing him for the rest of his life.

One of the major figures of French Revolution was Louis Antoine de Saint Just, better known as "Saint Just". He was one of the closest friends of Robespierre. Death penalty for King Louis XVI was basically Saint Just's idea and it was him who started executing people over minor suspicions thus he was know as "Archangel of Terror". Btw, you are an amazing narrator, I really admire your way of explanation and I really like your videos based on revolutions.

Reading Kropotkin's "The Conquest of Bread" has required MANY trips to wikipedia, and having this oversimplified timeline has been SOOO useful to keep all of the events and factions straight.
