In France, they restarted the calendar years from zero, and instituted renamed “months” consisting of three ten-day “weeks” (to extinguish even the memory of Sundays). Renaming everything to obliterate the memories of the past is de rigeur for all revolutions.

Looking back throughout history, I am not surprised that France is the way it is now. In fact, I'm not even surprised that the French Revolution happened. The revolution could be thought of as the great chastisement of the French aristocracy for turning away from Christ years earlier.

It’s getting harder to square the circle with the Vatican II popes

Why does the they call the VC2 as a beheading of the church? It changed the positions of the church in the society to a more open, flexible and a negotiable platform. Such as allowing the usage of local languages in local services which became much effective in preaching the Latin Americas, Middle East, Africa, Asia including the pacific islands.

This father sounds a bit like father Martin Luther of 1600 in spirit. Deeper question is, why 1789 happened in Catholic France and 1917 in Orthodox Russia? Two of the most devastating events in modern history.
