Dave Friedman has nailed it with his Marshall based amps. I always liked the BE, but my favorite has been his "small box" 50 based on the 1987X Marshall 50w Plexi.

Wouldn't a "true" Plexi that was actually vintage have the 4 inputs on the front? I'm not trying to be snarky but am curiously asking. I've been trying to replicate Paul Kossoff and wanted to pair my AC30 with a Marshall type sound to see if I could get that cool low end boom and was told that the Marshalls that will truly do it are the ones with the 4 inputs on the front. That's why I'm asking.

The channels are bridged internally so you don’t need a second set of channel inputs

the amp is internally jumped. you switch the second BRIGHT switch to the right and then you can blend the second channel (bass) in with channel 1 (treble)

Meh. Nothing special. Sounds like any other old school Marshall and the MCV control seemed to roll off the top end the more you turned it down and even Mike commented on it in a different way! Really, just pickup a a GOOD DIY kit, like from MojoTone which has good Heyboer transformers (same that Dave uses) and wire it up similarly! They run $664.00 For the virtual variac....just use the 100 and 240V taps in the US , which reduced overall voltages to about 85% and close enough! Dave has EL34's in this amp, but install 6CA7s and preferable old school big-bottle ones, like Ed, and Lynch, and......used and then you take it to the next level!! I know everyone blows Dave every time he releases something, but really, it's nothing special and the allure will wear off! My $0.02.

i’ve been friends with Dave for like 30 years. We both started out in the business about the same time. i still have and use speaker cables and instrument cables he built for me when i was 18. never needed to repair them and they’ve been all over the world with me. I’ve been in his shop with him and in the factory where his amps are assembled. Dave personally checks EVERY single amp at the end of the line. He takes painstaking measures to ensure not just great tone but reliability and road worthiness. i’ve seen Dave make tough choices and deliberate endlessly on tubes and capacitor that will be best overall for your amp, not necessarily “ideal”. the build quality is second to none and i can tell you it’s a great feeling being on a tour or in a studio and feeling really good that nothing is going to fail and it sounds great! Dave doesn’t cut corners he make smart, and sometimes tough, choices. His amps are the best and he’s the top guy for a reason. keep saving those dollars, brother there’s a Friedman with your name on it. 🙏🏼🤘🏻🤘🏻

i get it. to be honest JBs sound great in that particular guitar. i dont know is why… it’s just a mojo thing that has always worked well in THAT guitar…🤷🏻‍♂️

Hey Doug... is there an advantage of fretting everything with 3 fingers? I see you don't use your pinky a lot. I tried doing it using 4 fingers comes easier to me. BTW Awesome playing, love the major 7 arpeggios over the minor chords

there is no advantage to not being able to use my pinky. i can use my pinky as long as i use it with my index and middle finger. it’s when my ring finger comes in to join the party that my pinky goes MIA. 😂

Now THIS is a proper demo.... I was waiting for this, after that weird short shred thing he did. DR always get's an amp to sound as good as it can sound. The other demo's of this amp I didn't care for. This RIPS. This is also the perfect amp to try one of those HotMod's on to tighten it up and make it even more percussive. Killer demo DR!

Doug is one of those rare guitar players with all the feel that made the great 60s and 70s players so good, with all the chops of a great shredder. He knows exactly when to play to either of his strengths, and never over-does any any one aspect.

all delay fx are added in post production. i record everything dry. if you wanted delay with this amp in a live situation you need the Fryette Powerstation
