We all know the story and song about Frosty the Snowman, who magically came to live when a group of kids made him! They certainly had a fun-filled Christmas but doesn’t it seem just a little too convenient? We hardly know the rules of this type of magic and what’s really going on in that talking snowman’s mind (if he even has one)? Without turning this harmless child’s tale into something dark, we think it’s still smart to revisit this holiday classic! This week on “Cartoon Conspiracy”, Emily will attempt to tell if Frosty’s try intentions are for good or for EVIL!

No. For one thing, in the 1950's using coal as a fuel source was a lot more common than it is now and much easier to access. Secondly, Frosty had just been born, he was innocent and didn't know better. Karen went with him by choice, he didn't make her go and he didn't realize that she could freeze to death until she was actually freezing to death and then he sacrificed himself to save her. How is that evil? They were just building a snowman and used a hat that must've had some magic in it, as the lyrics to the song say. This one is really weak.

I could believe Sid isn't actually evil. Like come on, I don't think he actually thinks the toys have feelings. He probably just got bored and started messing around with his toys. He's a child, he probably would do things like that.

I do not believe he is evil. Everything that he did was childish at best. Think of it this way, he had just been born. What do kids do sometimes? They don't always listen to their parents, they get into trouble, and its not because they are demons but because they are learning. As for going to the north pole, Frosty wouldn't know how far it was to get there, how cold it could get or at least how cold it could get for a human child because again, he never experienced anything like that. If you look at the area of the story about two lumps of coal, coal was a way to keep your house warm at night. It was how stoves would burn depending on the time frame. They just used whatever they had around. Who has ever seen a actual corn cob pipe by the way? They are rarely seen today but during the time that people would use coal to heat their homes, they would use those types of pipes.

If Frosty was evil, my theory would have been that he got all his evilness from the Hat from the Magician. Frosty is only alive when he has the Magician's hat, and at the time, the Magician was not a good guy. But honestly, I don't support this theory that Frosty is evil at all. I'm sorry, but for one: your lyric explanations don't add up. I mean, Frosty is technically a new born baby- this explains his policeman encounter. He just turned alive, and he's a snowman! The coal thing I find stupid, coal is an essential and classic way to build a snowman. Also, in the movie, it shows that Frosty deeply cares for the children, especially Karen. He didn't know any better that what bringing Karen to the NP meant, and she willingly chose to go on her own account. If anything, Frosty is simply a tad mischievous, but he's a downright good guy. This is a little movie that I can never suspect anything bad to come from it. My theory for Frosty's trickery would be that Frosty is like another interpretation of Jack Frost who is commonly known for his own mischief.

The kids could have taken coal from like the fireplace or oven or something like that. And of course Frosty doesn't obey the law. He just magically came to life. No one told him anything. He doesn't have an education. He doesn't know the laws. Yet this theory is still creepy and she has a good point.

In the 1950's, when the original song was composed, houses were commonly heated by coal. Children were usually given the task of disposing of used coal from the clinkers, and shoveling in new coal, to warm houses. My father, who was born in 1947, used to tell me stories of how children would use coal to darken their faces and hands, as a cheap Halloween costume, supposedly making them look like ghosts. In that time, children had easy access to coal; it was not, necessarily, just given away on Christmas to bad children. Furthermore, Frosty, having been created recently in the timeline of the stories and cartoons, would have been ignorant to human physiology and the laws of society; without even the slightest common sense, he had no choice but to rely on children to advise him. And really, how smart would a child be, especially when it came to taking a trip to see Santa? "Cold be damned, let's go!"

I thought of a theory that connects frosty the snowman with the movie Frozen the main point being that Elsa transferred all of her powers into a hat to give it Anna on her birthday ( witch is why he always says happy birthday when he " wakes up") and the hat got passed down from generation to generation until we get to frosty the snowman, and if you think about it Olaf and frosty have very similar personalities, but somewhere along the way the Royal family got into some kind of trouble and they had to go into hiding which makes the family in the legend of frosty the snowman royal without knowing

Coal was actually a fairly common method of heating homes around the time the song was written so I'm betting they could find a pile of it at any of those kids' houses, also in the song Frosty was basically literally born that day so he'd have no way of knowing what a police officer was, let alone hypothermia.

Coal was still being used for heating fuel up until early 70s in some areas. So finding coal for the eyes would have been as easy as going to the basement where the furnace was. Especially back east.

Well, if you assume that the special takes place when the song was first written. It's easy to assume that they got the coal from their homes as it was being used a heating fuel. Or they got it from a station as steam locomotives were in use until the end of the fifties. Even if it did take place in 1969 when the special aired. Some houses could easily of still been using coal to heat them.

I have coal....but not for Christmas. In my town, there used to be a railroad running through it, and one crashed near where there is now a park. You can still find coal in the area (some requiring more digging than others) so some kids would look for the coal for fun. See? You don't have to be naughty to get coal. Furthermore, this also directly connects to the theory. There is a train station in the town in shown in the cartoon, which means they could have found some that was spilled by workers. Also, they only had two pieces. It's not like they all gave Frosty some coal.

the thing is way back when my grandmother was a child it was actually considered good to get coal in your stocking since it allowed you to stay warm in winter. So these kids may have gotten coal in their stockings BUT doesn't mean they were bad.

That coal could be charcoal from a campfire. Maybe they felt like sitting outside for a while, had a fire, and reused the charcoal.

Sorry, but this conspiracy, while it tried, didn't hold up once you take into consideration the fact that... 1: He was just born - he couldn't have known better. Personally, since Frosty was literally born that day, I just chalk his negligence up to him being a holly, jolly idiot. 2: The kids were just that, kids. Again, they likely didn't know better. And 3: The lyrics, themselves, burn this theory to the ground. As "there must have been some magic in that old silk hat they found." That said, I'd give it a one out of five.
