am i crazy or do i wanna see her acting in a movie like bodies bodies bodies? it would kinda fit her since it has “teen” drama like in euphoria, but also there’s the horror element added to it that would give her the opportunity to show us another face to her acting
Yes! I dont think its true that she’s generally not suited for comedy as i did really like her in Everything Sucks. The type of comedy should just be carefully picked, ig.
she sorta ha been in one, with handmaids tale. great performance she gave but no one even recognises its her, plus shes like a side character so people don't know her from it
I disagree. She was great at playing a psychopath in The Wrong Daughter and gave me the chills but if you have followed her on social media over the years especially before she started to blow up and watched her live shows she is a very sweet, lovely and funny person and is a self confessed dork and that is one of the reasons a lot of us longtime fans love her. She would be much better in Comedies if she just played herself and they let her be more dorky.
She was in a season of Handmaids Tale and was legitimately spooky and sad. She’s good. But I think she’s made statements before about how she doesn’t get paid a ton of money and takes pretty much whatever she’s offered. I feel like I remember reading her say that
I remember that, too. The actors' strike, especially regarding the issues of streaming, backed up what she said about how little actors are getting paid nowadays.
@@aspireistoinspirebeforewee3519even if she makes millions as you've said she probably only gets 20% or less. I'm tired of everyone acting like ALL famous people are rich. They have a team ffs and they pay their team
She needs to pull a Margot Robbie move, people started to take Margot seriously. When she did I, Tonya and was nominated in Oscar. Hopefully, she gets a role like that, I can picture her being in a female rage sort of movie with her skills. She’s great at playing Cassie especially during the emotionally tense and unhinged character moments.
i’m sure she will. i dont get the criticism, shes still super young and if she wants to do a romcom here or there, who cares. she’ll get great roles i’m sure
I personally think Margot Robbie was miscast in I, Tonya. She's a fantastic actress, but IMO, she looked too much like a model to play Tonya. Controversies aside, I think someone like Amy Schumer would have been a better fit for I, Tonya, if she could pull it off. At least appearance wise. Her or a younger Amy Adams.
@@Mic-Mak No way in hell you think Schumer should've been a better fit for Tonya than Margot. Who's a better actress and have a versatile range exactly?
@@K0m30ng Physically, Amy Schumer looks much more like Tonya Harding than Margot Robbie who looks like a model. Robbie is a fantastic actress, but IMO she was miscast, because she looks nothing like Harding. Harding was a bit stocky, Robbie is skinny. I would have preferred if the film had taken a risk with Amy Schumer or any unknown actress who has a body similar to Harding, then pick Robbie. Robbie was a producer on that film, so there was no way she wasn't gonna play the character. But I maintain that I don't think she was the right fit. At all.
@@Mic-Mak Margot is a far better actress than Schumer, simple as that. Nothing was miscast about her, yeah she's skinny but does it really matter exactly? I mean geez Hugh Jackman was way taller as Wolverine in the movies than Wolverine was in the comics yet everybody was completely fine with it. Then again, Margot got an Oscar nomination for Tonya so yeah, screw you on that lol
Sydney just keeps getting set up by her agents. She’s clearly got talent, but she’s never the best actress on any set, nor do the roles she’s being given as of late actually play to her strengths as an actress. Her range is more along the dark & serious lane, as opposed to romcom lead or action hero. I think she’d have a better time with the indie/grunge movies that have a more serious tone and layers to the characters. Unfortunately, Sydney and Glenn seem to have more chemistry off-camera than on-camera in terms of Anyone But You. I feel like this film will fall into the long line of modern adaptations of classic literature that just doesn’t hit the mark in terms of quality. I hope I’m wrong, but we’ll see.
@@eldritchbidoof Good film, but not a blockbuster type of thing. Very much a watch-it-just-once film, because of the subtle way it goes and the politically specific subject matter. Almost more like doing a play then a film (which I believe it also is).
i honestly think sydney is a great actress but the roles she’s in don’t fit her range i guess? like all the roles she’s killed at had a specific archetype to it but her playing spider-woman and some random girl on a rom-com don’t fit in to me
Personality wise she is a better fit for SpiderGwen but with her MMA skills she would be better playing a non powered hero that would allow her to show it off.
@@AA-ed6ek Not necessarily. There have been a lot of popular Actors miscast in roles that were bombs and some went on to win Razzie Awards for them and these were Actors that were considered to be some of the biggest stars of their generations and are considered legends now. Look at George Clooney as Batman. He is a Hollywood A Lister and one of the highest paid Actors in the world and his career was nearly killed by playing that role.
I really liked her in Everything Sucks, a Netflix teen show that was cancelled after one season (cause they hate lesbians). She played the mean girl with a secret heart of gold really well and had great romantic tension with one of the leads. I do think people are way too quick to write off a celebrity after one flop role though.
@@ameferreira Mila Kunis was 14 when she started working with Ashton Kutcher on That 70s Show who was five years older than her and nobody had a problem with that and we have got people now who think it is cute how they were paired together on That 70s Show and are married now. There have been a heap of similar situations in movies and TV Shows with male and female Actors and it was never problematic to the heads of these companies until it is two women.
I actually knew about her before euphoria, I found her through her best role: the handmaid's tale. That role played perfectly to her strengths as tht is a very tense show that involves a lot of quiet tense conversations because the characters are constantly being watched.
i saw her in that show and i thought she looked familiar! turns out she was from euphoria, which i have not watched before. spoiler for the handmaid’s tale > i was really sad to see her go! really loved eden
I never thought of it but I 100% agree that she should try to follow the same path as Jacob Elordi! He was also terrible in The Kissing Booth trilogy, I think that he has no skill at all to do comedy/romantic comedy and I realized I get the same vibe from Sydney now that you mentioned. They are both wonderful while playing layered characters. I feel like since she has the looks they might be trying to push her to a more commercial cinema, romcoms, superhero movies, they'll probably try some trilogies/sagas, maybe family movies or thematic movies (like Christmas movies). But I do feel she would shine a lot being mainly a drama actress, she could do some thrillers, suspense, horror, straight-up intense drama.
i didn’t even realize the parallel with jacob! they both totally have that vibe of being hot but being better in more intense roles. that’s why their relationship worked so well in euphoria (acting wise) because they were both able to portray this super toxic relationship very well.
for now she needs to step away from from rom coms, teen shows and family movies and venture into thriller, suspense, horror and biopics. She has to pull a Kristen Stewart move if she wants to be taken seriously. Jacob seems to take notes and he has been exploring.
aside from her overall vibe and acting range, i think her generally flat speaking tone (unless she's screaming) and valley girl voice limits her from being able to play diverse characters. if she learns how to manipulate those two, she might have a better shot at believably playing more high-energy characters or jump into other genres more seemlessly
@@shelby9510 yes it took me a while to place my finger on what makes her acting ‘flat’ or unbelievable. Her voice and speaking style is just not versatile
Yes! And I feel like this isn't talked about enough but actors should definitely also have versatility with their voices and be able to manipulate it and sound different or at least more energetic depending on the character. I noticed the same thing with Zendaya (I know it's an unpopular opinion, you don't have to agree lol) but I think her voice is very monotone and almost emotionless unless she's screaming (like you said with Sydney) and it kind of throws me off
Same I need to see her in these roles. But as long as her management see her as a blonde bombshell sex symbol, they will never fathom those roles being on the table.
Man they really would bodie each other. Sydney is seriously being miscast right now in Hollywood. She needs to pull a Charlize Theron and show her full range of talents.
they have the same level of talent in intense and chaotic horror movies (just going from syndey's S2 performance in euphoria) but mia has a more alternative look and fanbase that fits with it
I hope this turns around for her. She has so much potential and she's so unique. Tonally, she definitely belongs in the darkness. Drama, horror, suspense, thriller, even camp. That's where she lives and we need to get her back home 😭
@@ExpertContrarian My comment is four months old and echos the larger sentiment of the video as well as other comments. So what is your point, and where exactly did I use the word struggle? I'm allowed to hope for someone's career to get better and I'm not obligated to delete a comment or backtrack my statement because it has come to pass a few months later.
I love that ive heard so many versions of "sydney sweeneys team is doing a bad job". So far ive heard that they pick her sponsorships/ambassadorships poorly, her stylists do a bad job styling her for events ("addicted to not slaying"), her publicist/PR team must hate her and now her agent/management dont get her well-suited roles lmao. Its kind of legendary, ive never heard so many aspects of a person's career be criticized independently
@@chubbybunny3778 the criticism was that she took too many random sponsorships (that filled her insta to the point where most of her posts were in collaboration with some company) and that she should choose a couple ones that fit the brand she wants to portray. the post basically said her current strategy made her look scattered, disorganized and desperate for money (i dont agree, thats kind of mean). this was a while ago and just some random people online said it, so idk if its an accurate analysis
for anyone who hasn’t seen it yet she’s in this movie called nocturne (which is really really good if you’re into horror movies that are a bit more weird than into the generic/mainstream side) it’s available on prime, i lowkey kinda expected it to be mentioned in this video when you talked about how she would probably do well in horror lol
I think because she has a very Anna Faris-esque look to her the industry keeps trying to force her into a similar box but she is simply not that type of actress and that’s ok.
I think she reminds me more of Amanda Seyfried and if the rom Com does well on the box office. She will be highly successful as lighthearted actress she has the looks and vibe to do both dramatic and comedic roles, but that’s probably because I’ve never seen her act just her looks. and she gives so much Amanda Seyfried vibes that without problem could do something like Mamma Mia but also roles like Chloe.
just being beautiful doesnt help you when your an actor. You need to be ok with being ugly and sadly she fallen into her own type casting. She needs an ugly role like margo robbie.@@kittensmittens2529
@@myajanetteOmg im so glad someone brought up this movie reality was sooooo good and they were perfect for casting her we need her like that in more movies and shows
I once saw a guy wrote a comment for Winner and said that the movie sucked because Sydney didn't showed her boobs. unfortunately that's what her success in Euphoria brought to her. people just kinda expect her to strip all the time :((
She once got criticized for saying that she cannot afford to take time off because she needs to earn her living. It must have been some sort of response to all the nepo babies popping up around her and I frankly don't remember why the backlash happened (or even how big of a backlash it was). But essentially, it would seem that she has less agency than someone who *can* afford to do less mainstream movies.
There was backlash, but from what I remember, it was more about that particular comment and the articles popping up about her new house and lot. I think it was worth around four million dollars? and people were questioning why she’d spend so much for a big place if she couldn’t afford to, but I personally think it makes sense for her to take bigger projects that are likely to pay more if she wants to buy her own house, travel, and just afford the life she wants to live.
People (online trolls) hit her with some unfair backlash, but I think the actors' & writers' strike vindicated what she said a year earlier. She gave a realistic look at what actors face, even "known" ones, but the public just sees the glamour of Hollywood and not the cut-throat business behind it, which makes them go through leaner times than people realize.
People wouldn't care about her or criticise her if she didn't take every role she was offered - if she did hardly any acting - because she'd be poor and have no new films or shows coming out with her in them. She's a literal star. There's pre streaming actors who have a net worth of hundreds of millions so considering how much hype there is around everything she does you'd expect ther to have more creative freedom/ control as well as more money.
I feel like euphoria did two things for Sydney’s career it showed people she has range and can really act her ass off and then the other thing is it kinda made her a type cast to wear she either always somewhat nude in her role or she just casted as like a hot girl
honestly, i think Sydney should've switched roles with Jennifer Lawrence in her recent comedy about the teen virgin, and Jennifer should be in this romantic comedy
I think Jennifer was good in no hard feelings and she probably should have did the one Sydney is doing rn she need something more serious not about romance or being a sex symbol otherwise she just going to be stuck being a B list celebrity
I don’t think Sydney would work in No Hard Feelings because Jennifer Lawrence’s role requires her to be a decent bit older than the love interest, and I think Sydney still looks a bit too young
as someone who reads a lot and is on booktok a decent amount, I absolutely understand why they’re making an enemies to lovers trope filled movie. almost every big romance book right now has that trope and a lot of them read like fanfiction rather than traditionally published books, so when i saw the trailer i immediately knew what audience they were going for.
I am entirely disinterested in anything she’s been cast in so far but I’m a massive supporter of Sydney because I knew her briefly when we were kids at summer camp. Her first roles as a child actress were in crime shows so her roots are definitely in more serious stuff. If the way she was when we were like… 12? is any indication of how she is now, she’s also not a loud, animated person. The Sydney I knew was extremely down-to-earth and laid back. Friendly and sweet, but not boisterous. She could absolutely kill it in an Ari Aster film. Point is that her natural demeanor doesn’t suit snappy quick comedies very well at all. Always wishing her the best!
I feel like Sam Levinson, trolled everyone from how good season 1 was but that might have just been Zendaya. He is horrible at writing characters especially women characters. It’s like the male gaze turned to a million with a sprinkle of the woman having bpd or being unhinged. The only good character has been Rue and I think it’s cause he’s gone through the same things irl .
It all hurt her because I think shes an amazing actress am i watched her way back then in everything sucks and she was amazing as Emmaline and we all know she killed it as Cassie in s1
I feel the same way about Tom Holland. Struggling to find his place in film, his serious movies don’t really work because he’s trying to embody something he can’t seem to access. He reminds me of Daniel Radcliffe and had that funny sweet charm about him. Great comedic timing. An Aw sucks sensibility. Except Radcliffe tends to pull from parts of his psyche that are believable. I’d love to hear your thoughts on Holland. All the best 😊🤘
she probably knows she's not right for the roles she's getting but also knows that it's what is going to pay the bills until she can be financially comfortable enough to cherry pick her roles. Her networth is not that much and based on her purchases in the last few years, she's bound to run out of money if she waits for the perfect role to come around, so for now she'll take the roles that don't suit her at all because it's what allows her to afford her lifestyle.
Sydney was so good during her short time on The Handmaid’s Tale (where I first saw her). She played Eden perfectly, and I still cry when I watch her last scenes.
I hear a lot online that Sydney is many a person's "celebrity crush," especially young straight men. I really wonder how that impacts the roles she's offered/takes.
She also reminds me of Amanda Seyfried. Also an amazing actress, can really play strong emotional scenes (in certain movies) with, what appears to be, ease, but she’s of my generation I guess you’d say. Anyways, her features remind me of her, especially playing emotion with her expression.
I think this video is jumping the gun a bit. She is being judged for two movies that haven't even come out yet... how are we supposed to know if she is miscast when we haven't been able to see her work in the roles yet?
I completely agree! I hate how quickly people turn on others online fr, I just think she needs to take this and make it into lemonade and go into the indie scene or maybe take up some improv classes since she seems to be a little bit more comedy shy? But ahh i want the best for her, she'd be great in a horror flick
Yeah. She got praised a lot for her roles in 'The Handmaid's Tale', 'Sharp Objects', 'Everything Sucks', and 'The White Lotus' too but there are haters who only talk about Cassie and her nude scenes in Euphoria and make out that is all she has done and she only gets roles because she showed her boobs.
I am all for a generic RomCom, that is a genre I miss and I would be happy to get anything g that had the magic of an old school RomCom. But there is a very different set of skills needed for dramatic and comedic acting rolls, and RomComs require very charismatic leads that can carry the comedy.
Same i mean maybe this particular flick could be the revival of the 90’s/2000’s mid budget Rom-Com era I mean so many older eras of campy block busters are getting back on the tracks since the majority of the “Marvel Cinematic Universe” is fading away so it could be Renaissance of cinema if Barbie and Bottoms can be successful in of it itself then so can “Anyone But You” can do that as well so one can hope it is a one film at a time
I didn’t even realize she was in Madame Web lmaooo. Tbh I really like Sydney as an actress. I thought her White Lotus character was really funny and real! When it comes to role choices though, I feel like since she doesn’t come from the industry (compared to some Euphoria peers like Maude) she might not have as much power in this state of her career yet. I’m still excited to see her in stuff though bc I feel like she’s really compelling
Sydney Sweeney is an exceptional talent. I'm really glad you mentioned 'Reality' because this role made me realize she is an Oscar caliber actor. She's young and honing her craft. Not everything she's in is going to be a hit and that's ok.
She seems like a beautiful “mean girl” who always got everything she wanted. She plays variants of the “mean girl” role well, and can do big emotion moderately well since that’s quite easy for any actor. She cannot do comedy, pathos, subtlety, kindness, and so on. She is not a versatile or especially talented actor. She is eye candy with a supercilious air. What else is there to discuss?
I also didn’t like the white lotus!!! I only knew Sidney Sweeney from the handmaids tale so when I found out she was considered a “hot girl” I was honestly kind of disturbed. She played Eden so well
idk for me she's overrated, like yh she can act... but just like a crazy character. she has no range, no emotion in her voice, monotone, no real expressions... she's stuck in the euphoria role
Sydney was very good in “The Handmaid’s Tale”. She’s not just a pretty face who can’t act. She nailed Cassie’s inner turmoil too. She’s great in drama.
I went onto prime video and watched all the Sydney Sweeney movies she had and in most of them there’s something psychological going on with her character and it’s amazing you’re right she’s really good at acting in those types of scenes she would totally be great in a horror movie when I saw the web trailer I assumed she was a background character
Sweeney was amazing in Reality; gah, I really enjoyed that film and wish it had more recognition. A while ago too, she was in "The Handmaid's Tale" and was wonderful there too.
I get wanting to experiment with her acting. I just don't think when it comes to comedy that this is the right path for her to take. She should have taken supporting roles first so she can build up a skill set in the genre.
Well Emma Roberts isn’t taken seriously as an actor and doesn’t have half the talent that Sydney does. So people are critiquing because the choices that young actors make will shape the rest of their career and hers have fallen flat. See Jacob elordi and Zendaya’s great choices for comparison
Having seen Mia Goth in Emma before anything else it’s amazing to see that she’s so great in horror films because she also played sweet and innocent and very understated emotions so well in that movie haha
The internet loves to build people up and then tear them down. Im kinda glad my only interactions with Twitter drama are weeks later on RU-vid where the RU-vidr says "I dont know, this is kinda an overreaction?"
She is a very talented lady but I just always question the projects she gets cast in. I thought she was miscast in Euphoria, then again in White Lotus and so on and so forth.
She didn’t go to a trump themed party. She went to a party with her family and people said her family are obvious Trump supporters and tried to say that she’s a bad person for keeping contact with family who would support Trump. Which take that as you will, but is a good example of how the internet can really stir up things we don’t really know anything about and how that will turn into a game of telephone, as in people doing a video about her will hear something about it and assume she went to a trump themed party.
yessss her performance in euphoria season 2, ESPECIALLY that one scene where she and nate are having a screaming argument in his bedroom, is so intense and she does it so well. like she can really capture that crazy look in her eyes and face and she needs to either get a better agent or choose movies that are more on that thriller or horror side. i feel like she would be sooo amazing in thrillers like randomly the first one that came to mind is a quiet place. she has so much potential for that genre!
I watched a movie she was in I can't remember the name but I thought it was gonna be like psyhological thriller/mystery but it was like soft p0rn basically and it was so bad
Maybe her bestie Maude needs to help her out, get her in a room with the right people. With all her nepo baby sway, and her dad's own direct influence in the industry, I'm sure Maude knows someone who knows someone who can better get Sydney the roles she's best suited for. Also, she should maybe talk to Alexa Demie & Zendaya on the things they've learned from their stylists, bc wow pls she can't always be this underwhelming for every event.
She's only 26 and she's a huge star despite having a relatively small record in Hollywood. Her acting wasn't right for Anyone But You, but she put butts in seats and got a paid vacation to Australia. She'll get her roles.
I remember seeing somewhere that despite being an “it girl” (or as a result of) Sydney Sweeney was struggling to make a sustainable income and it could truly be that she’s taking these movies as a source of increased or guaranteed income.
While I agree that she is talented it’s important to remember that she is taking these roles because she generally believes she is the best choice till she takes a step back and chooses to play to her strengths she will continue to be miscast agents can advise but at the end of the day its her who has the final say
She’s an EP on anyone but you, I think she cast herself as she funded it and was part of the casting process. That being said I would still give the film the benefit of the doubt as it’s from the director of easy a and that was a rom com that ended up being a lot more clever than initially thought
