I have no words to tell how incredible this demonstration is. An uninitiated could see this video and do not recognize the masterful technique of Kashiwazaki, since he makes it all seem so easy!!!
Steve Owens is one of them. There are others that call him Sense that I train under. I also train under a gentleman that comes from Tucson Rendokan dojo (Owen's original dojo). My goal is to be proficient enough to last more than 30 seconds with Rainy Martinez and 1 minute with a Russian Sambo Judoka that trains at the Tucson Dojo. These 2 individuals have been the most dominating grapplers I have ever attempted to roll with. I say attempted because I felt like a mouse going againts a pitbull.
I ussually go to Tucson Dojo to practice what i learn from my Sense from Rendokan. I love the agresiveness from the students that compete in Bjj and Judo turnaments. I am hoping to try out my first Bjj or Judo competition soon. It can not be any tougher that any of Tucson's dojo open mat night. If you ever in Tucson, come right back
I am not sure about monday's, but Owen's group still meets at Rincon high on tues, thurs from 6 to 8, and saturday from 10-12. Mitts and Matts is closed now, but Santiago is using Catalina's High school's wrestling gym on tues and thursdays from 6-8. Sensei Chris shows up mostly on thursdays. The main advantage of going to Catalina's vs. RIncon is that you get one on one time with the instructors since the class is not structured. You should come back. We could use the extra bodies

This is Katsuhiko Kashiwazaki right..? If it is.. I have his book. Its no big secret. This guy is extremely dedicated and practices a whole lot to be this good. Years in fact. I'd love to see him take on some top BJJ guys. He's also a student of Sambo and freestyle wrestling. It would be very interesting and exciting to see a newaza master pit his skills against a BJJ master. I'm thinking him and Marcelo Garcia since they're abt the same weight.
I agree with you on the fact that I would like to see Kashiwazaki take on some BJJ guy. One who thinks that BJJ is the BOMB or something like that. Thing is that, I think, Kashiwazaki has nothing to prove to these guys. That's what I think.
I used to train there from 2002 to 2005. I know Christopher France, Gabe Figuerroa, Joe Figo, Jonathan Doran, David Lopez, etc. Is Tucson Dojo still at Rincoln high on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday?
It doesn't have to be a contest. Maybe they could just randori or roll around for a few rounds. It would be really cool to see that. The exchange of techniques form 2 similar styles. All of us could learn a lot from it. Why do we have to see it as some form of competition between Judo and Bjj? I'm a student of both and Judo improves my Bjj and vice versa. It's ying and yang. I know Judo teaches it students to never be arrogant , always be humble and to always keep learning.
