The FULL HISTORY of the "SUPER FALCON" Drag Car

HISTORIC drag cars are awesome, and this one has DEEP family history dating back to 1969. Check out the Super Falcon, an incredible old school drag car that racked up many wins and even a track championship back in the day. It raced all over the Southeast, piloted originally by Terry Hood and later by his wife Sandy Hood. Power came from a rowdy small block Ford, 4 speed manual transmission (later switched to automatic) and 6.14 gears out back!
Surprisingly the 1965 Ford Falcon Futura was never butchered or cut up. The only modifications are widened wheel tubs, and offset shackles to move the leaf springs inward. Everything else is very close to original. All of the trim, emblems and windows survived. Even the original hood survived, as Terry put it away for safe keeping back in the 1970's. Check out this car's originality and hear some of the stories that make it (and its owner) a true local legend. Hopefully, Terry and his grandson Daniel will put an engine in this car and get it back going again. Either way it's a great piece of local drag racing history from the Chattanooga area, and it holds a lot of memories for the Hood family.

Please share the progress with us as you go. You don’t need to film everything you do but it would be nice for us older guys who remember this car running to be able to see it come back to life. Maybe even if it’s just to have Hot Rod Hoarder come down when it’s halfway done and again when it’s done and he can put out the updates. Either way is fine, I guess whatever works best for the family but It definitely deserves to be saved for sure!! There’s too much racing history in that falcon body to let it rot away! If you need the help, I’m sure if you started a gofundme for the restoration, you could get some enormous help from the racing community to help get it back to the track the way it used to be. What a beautiful car and awesome family story and I appreciate y’all sharing everything with us!! Take care and Merry Christmas from NC!!

Thanks for sharing the story of the Super Falcon! I love hearing about old cars like this and the folks who own/owned them. Glad you’re documenting this information. Another generation or two down the road and no one will know about historic details of our sport, without people like you taking the time to make record of it. Keep up the great work. It’s always a pleasure to see.

Many thanks to The Hotrod Hoarder for bringing this important piece of Drag Racing history back to life with photos and informative narration. Unfortunately I never got to see this beautiful Falcon in competition but the story of its history brought back some great memories of my friends that also became racing legends. My oldest brother Gene operated “Gene Wilson’s Speed Shop” originally located in Decatur Georgia during the sixties before moving to a larger facility in Tucker Georgia. Gene was the engine builder for the late, great Phil Bonner whose “Daddy Warbucks” lineup of Fords were legendary in the Southeast USA. Gene also drove one of Phil’s 1964 Fairlane “Thunderbolt” factory lightweight Super Stock drag cars with the 427 8-V, “High Riser” engine. I was only 10 at the time but being a member of the pit crew got me hooked on Ford Drag Racing !

I lived down the road from them for a while. I wanted to put my truck on the strip after I built it. I was changing 1st to 2nd at 55 and at 100 from 2nd to 3rd. This was a Ford automatic so it would stay in the gear you put it in. The way I worked, I couldn't take it to the track. I was lucky to get to go watch them

Cool falcon. My uncle had one with rollerized hipo 289. This was in 1980s Andy had over 500 HP outta his small blocks in his backyard garage. Fast Ford's in a poor man budget. Fun times I had a 1967 fairlane 289 with big power as well. The 289 is one of my fave ford motors. The ,300 inline 6. Cobra jets and ford motors are my fave. This beast was 9 second or high 8s and this was awesome for the time. This was wild really cool. Thanks I love the stories I have many stories of my dad and uncle and their Ford's.

Thank you for putting all this great racing history together,, growing up in the sixties and seventies, seems like everybody’s brother had a drag or dirt car, and we had 6 racetracks to go to,,sadly, they have all closed down and nobody has a race car in the yard anymore.
