Thank you for help. This video explained it to the tee,!!!!! I was Looking for video's for a Bryant furnace repair...... I had to break it down to components..... I had no 24 volts coming out of the transformer. Once i removed the transformer, and checked the ohm's readings, the primary side was reading in the (m) range. I fixed my 55 year old furnace for 40 bucks...... I think they f#$@ked me on the cost of the part but, i now have HEAT !!!!!

Patricia----- I am answering this question , what I learned from JJ in the past . The transformers step down meaning converting 120 v ( primary) to 24 v ( secondary) . To check the transformers use ohm meter make sure power is disconnected. You will read ohmic value and do the same on the other side . If you read infinity the transformer no good . If you read primary side nothing but you read secondary side still transformer no good or vice se versa. I hope I answered your question

Complete NOOB here. The laminated plates allow for the magnetic field to travel from the primary coil, to the secondary coil, and this is called: inductance, right? But since the laminated plates are made of iron or steel, shouldn't we just call it: conductivity? I mean, if iron and/or steel were non-ferous, I could understand, but since they are, what gives? Please let me know. Cheers!

Belated, but electrical conduction is, for example, what your tongue does when you stick it to a 9v battery. There's electricity flowing straight through from point A to point B. Induction is indirect transmission by magnetism, using in this case coils of insulated wire and metal plates that do not directly contact each other. In general terms, the AC through the primary coil creates a rapidly switching magnetic field that travels across the metal plates to the secondary coil, generating an electrical output. A typical gas generator does a similar thing to make power, just instead of an AC electromagnet and metal plates to get things going for the output, it moves actual magnets across the output coils. Huh. Never really thought of it like that before, but technically you could call a transformer an electrically powered electric generator. XD

I have an electric heater that has 110 coming in on both legs and a ground. The total volts would be 220 there is no 220 on the transformer. Also the black wire and the white wire each have 110 volts coming into the machine how would I wire this?
