When I was in my late 20's I got friend zoned hard. There was this girl that I had been friends for a couple of years, actually, friends with benefits. We both dated other people off and on but we always came back to each other after a few weeks. I finally set her down one day and explained that I wanted to settle down and get married and she was the one I wanted to do it with. We talked off and on about it for a few weeks and she said that she too wanted to settle down one day, just not now. We made a commitment that if after five years we still felt the same way we would marry. A few weeks later she had to go out of town for a few weeks to deal with a family problem (sick grandmother). When she came back, she had been gone less than a month and there was a change in her attitude toward me. She came over one day to talk to me, said it was serious. While she had been gone she met and fell in love with someone and they were already talking about marriage. Of course I asked who he was, if it was someone she had just met or someone from her past. She informed me that she was a girl she had known before her family had moved to my state about 6 years earlier and that they had been lovers from middle school until she had moved. She left a few weeks later, about a year later I got a message from her that they had married, right after that she stopped communicating after telling me that she wanted to leave me in her past. Never once in the time we had been together had she ever expressed an interest in women.
