OMG JIM CARREY'S PERFORMANCE IN THIS WAS OUTSTANDING AND I COULD NOT PICTURE ANYONE DOING THIS ROLE NEARLY AS WELL AS HIM. Jim made the role of Fletcher his own, he changed values, himself as a person and improved so much I love seeing such happy endings. The comedic essence Jim Carrey possesses is unmatched and you feel it from the very first scene in this movie. I loved the entire movie from start to finish and wish it were longer because it was absolutely hilarious. Thank you for the wonderful recommendations friends. :)I hope you enjoy as much as I did!

Jim Carrey had a rough childhood. He was the youngest child of 5 growing up in the steel making area of Ontario. The family was dirt poor and at one time, they were homeless, living in a tent and VW van. Eventually his dad got a job at the tire plant and the family moved into a company house across the road. To cover rent, the whole family worked as security and janitorial staff for the tire plant. Jim learned to do impressions and comedy at an early age to cheer up his family, mainly his dad during these tough times. His relationship with his dad was the basis of his comedy. Sadly, his dad died just as Jim was making it big, less than a year after the release of Ace Ventura. So Liar Liar is probably a very personal film for Carrey. His portrayal of a dad who is imperfect, yet will do anything for his son looks like a tribute to his own father.

Christ, is all that true? I guess that's why so much of his comedy straddles the line between living cartoon and mental breakdown. It's also really great to see working class actors make it big. Not enough can today and they have so many valuable experiences to share that the Oxbridge/Ivy League set just can't.

The best part of this movie to me is character portrayal as real humans. At the end, Jerry has had huge character development. He too was lying to himself, pretending to be this optimistic and happy guy when he was really just coming across overly naive and obnoxious to everyone around him. In the end he did what was best for everyone and admitted his faults and I was so proud of Jerry. Oh yeah Fletcher made some good choices too. PS: feels like a lot of movies nowadays would have had Jerry say some douchey one liner or just try to belittle Fletcher in that scene. Little do we consider that the villains in our stories are just humans working through their own process. Glad you enjoyed this one!

I wrote my own plot for a sequel to this movie if it were ever to get made; this is what I came up with.. In "Liar Liar Pants on Fire," our protagonist, a sleazy car salesman named Max Reede, the son of Fletcher Reede from the first film, finds himself cursed by a gypsy he wronged. The gypsy casts a spell on Max, forcing him to only tell the truth for one day or risk having his pants catch on fire. The movie opens with Max’s pants starting to smoke suddenly in the middle of a sales pitch, but only he can see it. Hilarity ensues as Max struggles to keep his pants from going up in flames while telling the truth about the cars he’s trying to sell. Customers are stunned by his honesty and refuse to do business with him. Max must navigate through his day, trying to undo the curse and prevent his pants from catching fire. He visits a priest, a psychic, and even a fire marshal, but nothing seems to work. As the day goes on, Max’s honest confessions about his past misdeeds only make matters worse. In the end, Max learns the value of honesty and makes amends with the gypsy who cursed him. The movie closes with Max finally breaking the curse, just in time to save his pants and his job. With newfound honesty, Max finds success and happiness in his career and personal life. Throughout the film, "Liar Liar Pants on Fire" delivers non-stop laughs, witty one-liners, and a message about the importance of honesty.

There used be a wrestler called Kill Kowalski on Stampede Wrestling (Back in the 60s), whose finishing move was always 'The Claw'. He'd basically use his hand (aka claw) to grab his opponent's abdominal muscles and squeeze him into submission.

10:17-10:20 I reacted the same way when I ran into my ex at the mall. It warmed my heart when I heard some random guy say, "He did that thing from the Jim Carrey movie!"

You mentioned the mechanical rhino from Ace Ventura 2. That movie was filmed in South Carolina while I lived there. Much of it was filmed at the General Dynamics plant I had worked for from '90 to '94, after it was used for Die Hard 3. The bat cave used part of the storm sewer from DH3.

22:16 "That's very sweet of- That was _very,_ very sweet... of him." Yeah. Consider how rare are movies in which the wife's current partner and her ex have such a _cordial_ relationship. In this way, Max is quite lucky. There's a stretch in the movie where it's like he's got three parents.
@Saber23

Well I mean he kind of did have 3 parents even though Jerry wasn’t fully integrated in his life although I like how they didn’t just make Jerry completely unlikable solely because he was Audrey’s new boyfriend, it was refreshing to see him just as a normal and even good man

If you notice near the end before the EMTs take away Fletcher on a gurney, look in the crowd for a firefighter with sunglasses. That's Jim Carrey as Fire Marshal Bill Burns-his character from In Living Color.

I love many scenes in this movie, the humor is off the charts. I recall the scene at the impound “You scratched my car!!”, ‘Where?’, “right there.” ‘Oh that, that was already there.’ “You liar, you know what I’m going to do about this?” `’What?’ “Nothing, because if I take you to small claims court it will just drain 8 hours out of my day and you probably won’t even show up. And even if I got the judgement you’d just stick me anyway. So what I’m going to do is piss and moan like an impotent jerk, bend over and take it up the tail pipe!” ‘You’ve been here before haven’t you?’

Final film appearance of Jason Bernard (the Judge), who also appeared in WarGames, While You Were Sleeping, and many, many TV series & movies in the '70s-mid '90s. Died of a heart attack probably not 2 hours after filming wrapped on this movie. The film is dedicated to his memory.

The judge saying "it is out of sheer morbid curiosity I'm allowing this freak show to continue" is probably a breach of professional conduct. Samantha Cole is entitled to testify if she wants to do so. He also told Jim Carrey to call another witness.

Many of the movies Jim Carrey did especially in the 90s were written with him in mind. A lot of the time the script would give general guidance of what was supposed to happen in a scene and then "Jim does something funny".
