Saive is a natural clown, he loves that shit. Have seen him doing it live when he and a few other pros came to my small home town, must have been around the year 2000.
I love everyone just play along with it, even his opponent, and the crowd absolutely love it. The judge at first having none of it, but then can't help herself too... Too funny! It's still feel unreal this is a real event.@@Volkbrecht
@@karanoelle4819 Probably my favorite part about this whole thing, he was losing the game but winning at having fun and making it enjoyable for all. I'm sure no one cared that he lost the game.
true fighter? i mean its fing table tennis lol........ dont get me wrong to play at that level obviously few can do. but its like golf if u can stand u can probably do it as long as u got the skills
@@Thomazbr It's an exhibition match. It's not part of a competition or cup, so there are no stakes. They are usually done for charity, or just to sell tickets, so the players just make it as entertaining to watch as possible. Similar to like Rally For Relief in Tennis.
I just love how serious the judge was at first by moving the board back in place then later she’s awarding the same guy with a point by moving the table to his advantage 😂
The judges were the real MVP's here... Keeping the phony score and allowing massive bends of the rules to enable the players to play to the audience and just have fun
Old comment but ping pong cannot be considered a real sport. I mean this just looked like to much fun, we all know true sporting professionals stop enjoying the game as it becomes statistics and not fun.
@@generalharness8266 no, the attitude of the players and coaches does not change whether something is a sport or not... otherwise, every snot-nosed little kid forced to play little league would make baseball not a sport either. ...what makes it a sport is when people choose to play it for fun, all else be damned.
Who cares if it is a country by international law. I guess there is some debates. What's most important is what the people want and the rights and freedoms of the population.
It's incredible , we are laughing our heads off yet at the same time we become even more aware of the incredible skills those two have. Who doesn't want to play table tennis after watching this? Pure promotion!
This is what sport is all about. Both people having a great time, a wonderful show for the audience, even the judges handled it so well! I love this so much. These players showing what being a human is about, no matter where you are from or what your background is.
Bro, YT recommended this to me at 5 am once and I've shared this with all my friends, multiple times on platforms and I keep watching it ENTIRELY whenever I need a laugh, honestly one of THE BEST videos I've ever seen xD
This was wholesome and I love the judges not being..... well...judgemental lol. Both were fun. Had no idea this sport could be entertaining till there two lol. Bringing in the 2 balls... rotating the tables.. moving the board and going further away. That guy played into it he could of def got him on pretty much any of them but he played into for the audience to see how par the dude can go. Their ball control is insane. Way to go guys. And judges you were great! And to who ever put this out there...ty!
+rupertcow The expression of emotions is the same for every single human being. However the social environment of the person determines the understanding and meaning of the emotion.
What I understand: Saive is very skilled. Saive is severely outmatched. Saive is a freakin comedian. Chuang has a heart of gold and plays along, turns out he is also a freakin comedian. The officials are LEGENDS. EDIT: Apparently Saive was not outmatched, just having fun in an exhibition toward the end of his career. I mean, clearly they are both incredible players, that much is obvious. I didn't mean to imply otherwise
Jean-Michel Saive (his brother is also a ping-pong player) was belgium's most gifted and durable p-p player. He went to seven Olympiads and was our country's flag bearer. Respect for this great player and sympathic human being. JEAN-MI !!!
No Saive does not appear to be outmatched. He is goofing off and having fun. He consistently gives his opponent easy slams on purpose and yet keeps returning them. That is not criticism of his opponent, only a defense of Saive's skill.
I mean wtf. They are playing on a high level. They know each others turns, they are capable of receiving a pun when its meant to be. Not just for the pure show but they both did recent normal servings, going from aggressive to defensive and had some fun is incredible. It's like watching two best friends who played hundreds of matches against each other and then this......they got it all and seperated by the best way. So much thank yous for these players
I watched this 6 years ago, then about 3 years ago, then again today after Chuangs retirementannouncement. A classic game is always fun to watch because it's a classic game. There is a reason we call Sports a game, because that's what it is, a Game, something Fun to experience, to play. That spirit seems to have lost somehow nowadays.
When East meets West showing humour and sportmanship combined with humour at it's finest. A wonderful example of nations getting on and a lessonwe should all remember.
@John You sure there are no rules against using two balls or using their heads to play? Or moving the table around or changing the score? A strict referee could've given Saive a warning that they'd disqualify him. The officials definitely had the means to stop him had they wanted to.
@@gab5012 John claimed that there was no rule against it. I made a counterpoint to that specifically. Whether the match was a joke match or not, I don't know for sure, but I did read that it was some kind of official match, but since the weaker player didn't stand a chance against his friend, he decided to have fun.
I love their spotmansship. it's like jean-micheal called chuang. "JM: yo bud, wanna play table tennis in a stadium full of crowds?" "CC: sure why not, let's give them some entertainment"
To just see how casually Jean-Michael is playing and with sheer skill speaks for itself that how great of a player he must've been in his prime. It's definitely both the players just having fun here, but then the distance from which they both are receiving the ball, especially Saive, sheer class! What a fun, entertaining, unforgettable match!
Hilarious!🤣🤣🤣 Wins the best Olympics entertainment duo hands down. I think they should team up and travel around the world to promote the sport. The memories they make will give them more joy and meaning than any medals. A big thank you to the judges for not intervening and allowing play to continue. Sooooo much fun to watch and I am sure the two good friends had soooo much fun playing each other in this way.👏👏👏
Chuang is legend. Still fighting in his fifth Olympic game. Hope it’s not his last dance .BTW, I never saw him smile during a table tennis game until this game 🤣🤣🤣
It helps that the one clowning was getting his ass kicked. If it were there other way around I don't think the opponent or the judges would have been as accepting of it.
@@jeffwells641 I am just guessing here. But I think this match was supposed to be like that. Kinda like the Harlem Globetrotters when I was young. This was probably a Fun Match up for an audience.
These dudes are phenomenal! I love how they played off each other, had fun with it and not only showed their amazing pong skills, but that they are both hilarious.
I remember watching this a few years back but RU-vid recommended again and I had to watch. Fun Fact: This was not a showoff match but a real competition.
For anyone watching in late 2019: This match was the last one in the group stage of an invitational tournament, so in terms of points for the calculation of world ranking, the results wouldn't have had too much of an impact. Also, Saive had already been eliminated from the tournament by this point, so winning wouldn't have mattered, and since he and Chuang are good friends, why not have some fun? Unfortunately I didn't catch it live back then, but I remember this going viral on the interwebs that night and I was rolling on the floor because I was laughing so hard
Saive retired about an year after this game, having played at the Olympics a record 7 times straight since 1988, when the sport was first introduced there. Chih-Yuan is 15 years younger than him and currently the world no. 26 with a bright future.
Chuang is likely going to retire after this Olympics. He played during the period where the nation did not fund athletic training programs and spent all his savings and some more to build the first dedicated table tennis training facility.
Exactly! They're having an absolute blast playing, and yes there's competition, but they are genuinely enjoying and joking around with each other. They may not speak or understand each other's language, but they are communicating perfectly on a much deeper level and are even sharing it with the crowd. They've completely lost track of the score and don't even know whose serve it is, but they're having such a good time they don't seem to care. This is what competition should always be like.
@@iggyblitz8739 I doubt it. Those officials look far too serious and don't seem to be at all amused by their playing around and the score board shows them from 2 completely different countries. It's not set up like an exhibition at all. But in the long run, does it really matter?
@@AnuragYadav-nf6ut Judges definitely deserve props for letting this happen, but I think he meant keeping a serious face throughout the match when everyone was going crazy laughing. :-D
@@yescoblol if you have this kind fun while playing with your buddies then, there is no harm if I say that you have the best buddies in your life, you are the luckiest one, your life is gold. God bless you man, never lose them.
Just imagine playing and goofing around for the whole 16 minute. The skills and humor... Also, I suggest watching it in 1.5x to 2x speed. It's even funnier hahaha
