One of the best things about this room (I'm a member) is that it's a space built around the game with no compromises. People make comments about the price but I think it makes sense here in the heart of NYC near Herald Square AND it means you're serious about the game if you made that investment. There's no other reason to come here unless you came to play.

$300 a month sounds like a lot, but considering pool halls charge $20 an hour, that’s like 15 hours of play, which is not that much time for hardcore players. So $300 is a great deal.

in all honesty i find it extremely cheap, if it's unlimited play time.

Beautiful table and facility. I hope this sort of thing pops up where I live in San Diego. Fortunately I have a pretty decent pool hall a mile from my house that has 9 footers and 7 footers and a snooker table. I hope more money keeps entering the sport like the World Pool Championship with a 250k 1st prize pot. This will attract more young players to playing pool. Pool deserves to be televised on TV and made relevant again. There's never been more interest in this sport right now than any time ever since the 90s. It's time to promote and grow the sport again.

Places like this would allow for many more ppl to enjoy the sport at a higher level. I think so many competitors are turned off by the bar scene but would love a facility to play in.

Thanks for the interview. I saw this room's website 6 months ago, and was immediately impressed. If I lived in NYC, I would have been first on the member list. The price is also excellent for serious players. I'm also glad they went with Gabriels tables. Their rails bounce perfectly, and not excessively fast. Plus, they look amazing. Good luck to the club!

Good video. Great concept. A lot different scene than back in the pool hall days. Clean, updated, top equipment etc. The Real Estate owner of this building don’t need to worry about getting his rent out of the 8th floor or worry about convicting them or going vacant. Not sure about the other floors in the building but I know most people & RE investors have left NY or want to leave NY. Cheers

Nice one. A similar place opened for Snooker in the Phoenix area a few years ago, though I don't remember the name or if it's still there (I play pool and not snooker)...it reminded me of the Snooker clubs I'd previously seen in London and would have loved to have this for pool. The closest to this I've played in are the Senior Centers in Scottsdale, AZ (one of the guys there played regularly till he passed away at 100) and Mesa, AZ and the pool rooms in the various Sun City, AZ communities.

Great introduction to an amazingly bold idea and a unique "sanctuary" for people who love pool. Del’s questions were insightful and Paul’s answers underscored both his sincerity of purpose and commitment and a true spirit of sportsmanship few believed the NYC pool scene would reveal! Beautifully welcoming room and impeccable equipment, but what distinguishes it most is the quiet of all but sounds that attend serious pool playing. Congrats on elevating a game I’ve loved for half a century and the gamesmanship at its heart.

I'm pretty sure they could handle more members. You can have 24 hour memberships, some work hours memberships, and maybe some late night/early morning memberships. Let those members have 8 hours or something during other hours per month.
@BilliardSportsNetwork
@BilliardSportsNetwork 3 месяца назад
They probably could squeeze people in but I really like how much priority is on the quality of the experience. They would rather have less members have a perfect experience vs a lot of members with an average experience. Their attention to detail is superb and more pool rooms should take note of this!
@TopDownDC

It's worth considering, depending on how quiet it gets there overnight or during work hours. Then again, it is in the city that never sleeps, so maybe there are always people using it.

@BilliardSportsNetwork well, he did make it clear that it is not for profit. So, if they aren't losing money, they are doing well. I imagine they need to save up cash for maintenance, though.

It’s not competition for the pool halls. The halls can have the noobs who just want to drink and have a good time while knocking some balls around. Places like this are for more serious players who want to work on their games without having to deal with telling noobs to move every other shot. 😂
@BilliardSportsNetwork
@BilliardSportsNetwork 2 месяца назад
Yeah its incredible how much money the rooms make from catering to the noobs. Places like this are crucial to players to want to take the sport seriously.

Growing up in the 80s and 90s, it seemed like everyone played pool. Then in the 2000's it became kind of a dead sport/hobby. All the pool halls closed down around my area (there were 5 in my small city alone) and now the younger generation doesn't seem to know anything about it. I have a table, and when my kids and stepsons and nephews or whoever come over, they seem to have little interest in learning to play decent.

@@BilliardSportsNetwork I think it'll come back around. A big reason pool halls shut down is because kids born in the 90s and beyond don't know how to act right in public, and owners got tired of dealing with them. I do think the sport will get popular again before too long. It's too good of a game not to.

@@CB_RedBeard417 Prime time pool in Manhattan is $18 an hour, when you can get a table, which is hard because of all of the leagues. Plus the league in the club is cheaper than in the pool hall, with more money going back to the players. Plus all of the equipment is the best around. As a member, I can tell you , this is a great deal.

This is a beautiful facility. We have a private membership pool hall here in Billings, MT. It is called Brothers Billiards. Been open for now for 4 years. 8 -7ft Diamonds, 4-9ft Diamonds, 1 3cushion billiard and 1-12ft snooker table. BYOB, lockers, refrigerators for only $50 a month.

 @sonitty I didn't miss it, on any platform, about any topic, the comments section doesnt = what the majority of people think or do in real life only a small fraction. Maybe players will open their eyes to the future of places like this because for anyone whos not playing purely for the social fun of the bar scene, this is the way!

Pool has a tough time because matches are not fun to watch unless you know what you're looking at which most people really don't. So any audience is always limited to the players. It's always going to be a niche sport and btw no producer should ever try to jazz it up because it always looks lame - (with the exception of the Mosconi Cup)
