Richard Gale I’ve never been on it as I live about 3 hours away and haven’t been in years but after watching loads of peoples reviews of it I don’t plan to go on it anytime soon 😂
My dream for the park in the next 15 years or so: 1. New entrance along the promenade as you described 2. RMC grand national 3. Install RMC raptor where steeple chase is 4. Pleasure Beach museum 5. Flat ride in arcade dome and where Skyforce is 6. Create a centrepiece coaster in FY4 7. Refurb river caves and have the FY4 ride interact with it 8. Create multi level restaurant at FY4 9. MARKET THE PARK MORE!
Great Thoughts! Heres Mine Realistically. Next 5 years maybe adding a new thrilling flat and retheme Nick land if IP runs out. I think they will do something to the Big Dipper for its 100th Birthday and and I think they will have to look at the Nash. General resort upkeep and focus more on events like Thorpe seem to be doing at the moment. Long term I think the area around FY4, bowl-a-drome and planet rock will be totally re imagined Wish list. GCI overhaul or full retrack of the woodies, RMC Raptor installed and totally new entrance plaza.
Great stuff! I think they should replace Infusion with maybe a B&M inverted roller coaster with a custom layout. I would also make the FY4 area into some pretty gardens around the fountains and some new shops.
I like your Museum idea since it's quite realistic and there's a good chance that it could happen. They could add pictures from the old archives and maybe add spare ride parts from older rides such as the wild mouse.
If the Pleasure Beach is going to do any work on the wooden coasters i think bar the most major parts they would do most of it themselves. I like your idea about a new entrance. The key i think is to maintain what they have. I can't see a huge budget being available for a few years. I also imagine that some of the plans they had after last year might now be on hold or completely changed.
Hi Shaun. i would like them to completely reprofile the whole of the Big One's track, so it is an air time monster and not a "monorail". Also a drop tower similar to Port Aventura's
Just watched the Blackpool vlog, great vid! would you say infusion would be much better and a big uk thrill ride if it had lap bars and would it change your opinion on it?
Whilst I like most of your ideas Sean I don’t like the idea of replacing the fountain area. Last time I was at the park - august 2019, it felt like a great chill out spot to sit down, have a rest, bite to eat and generally take stock. Watching the kids in the fountains was great. Maybe the food area could be tweaked somewhat, and some of your ideas incorporated into it, but all big theme parks do have rest areas like this - and in my mind this was the only area missing from Pleasure Beach. The park doesn’t need ride after ride after ride, now you pay entry it’s a full day out for many, and this area is so essential.
The only problem I have with RMC the Grand National is that we need to remember that Pleasure Beach is built on a sand-based terrain and we would have to put concrete supports 30 - 50ft in the ground. Then we would have the issue of space if we had a dual RMC. It could be done yes but with the park's financial issue from COVID, I don't see it happening. Then for the Space invader building, you need to remember that the characters for the Nickelodeon Land get changed in there as well as the Blue Flyer running through part of the building. Then you also have the Big Pizza Kitchen which is very popular on busy days in the park. Then you would need to think about where other food options would be? There would only be the Infusion area for main food and Burger King. I know its your opinion and I respect that :)
It’s always great to hear people’s opinions! It’s certainly going to be an interesting few years for the park, I just hope they can pull though after this tough period!
As the Grand National and Big Dipper are grade 2 listed buildings, it'd be interesting to see what hoops BPB would need to jump through to do any major work in the form of RMC'ing them.
Great idea for a new entrance on the promenade. Brightly lit up with BPB name. Wasted space at the moment. Always good to get a new front door every so often.
Another great video mate. Said it on your last video, really interesting, great format and enjoy hearing your thoughts on the parks 👍🏼 Would you consider doing a review on different manufacturers and coach designs?
OMG I remember he centerfuge in the Millennium 2000. It was renamed the millennium bug, the cages had yellow plates in them with the space invader like symbol on them. My wish would be for themes parks to give over with the grey and colbot matte silver.. the pubs, the shops everywhere is doing it. Let's bring back those beautiful colours from Shawn's posters and the fun of the 70's-90s. The corporate fun police need to less focused on the profit and more for the product. Nostalgia is bang on trend. Let's bring it back. Blackpool is the best. DON'T TOUCH IMPOSSIBLE 😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢 its far too historic. Blackpool council if you ate watching please build a museum to house these things or let me buy it! My heart breaks. I wish I could work with the park.. amazing how things slowly get discarded over time 😢
Well done with this video! I like your idea of the “spooky” bobsled coaster, especially the bunny hills over a new entrance. I also liked you mentioning Paultons Park, since it is my home park! Now I know that Paultons Park literally has only one record( if you could call it that), with it being the one-of-a-kind bobsled coaster in the uk, and it also being (from what I can recall) my only gerstlauer coaster, but it is one of my favourite coasters at the park, so I think another in the uk would be good. Also, because I love Paultons so much I really liked watching your tornado springs videos! Now I haven’t actually been to Blackpool pleasure beach yet ironically, so I’m yet to ride the uk’s tallest coaster!
Spot on again, really enjoying these. The BP museum would be a fantastic idea, while not a crowd puller, add a well themed gift shop at the end and it’s a money printer. In terms of a coaster I can see them adding something compact like Tigris at Busch gardens in the area near the fountains, just positioned so it doesn’t interfere with The Big One. It saddens me to say- I don’t think they’ll be touching their woodies (ooh err).
I’m loving this series! Personally, I would love to see a Mack Spinner replace the Wild Mouse and Trauma Towers. Something along the lines of what Paulton’s have done with Storm Chaser would be fab (but would PB would suit a more generic theme).
Sounds like a cool idea. A more family oriented coaster would be a cheaper but decent investment. Also a new flat ride to replace that arcade opposite the River Caves would be good too
Infusion will most likely be relocated again, maybe move it to Southport pleasure beach as I think it would work better there with their new zamperla thunderbolt. Replace infusion with a b and m dive, flyer, wing or maybe even a new vekoma suspended thrill coaster. Focus on whippy inversions, and focus it on intensity. The park doesn't have many multilooper coasters as icon has 1/2 inversions, revolution has one inversion so the park needs a multi looping coaster 5-6 inversions max.
While y'all stuck at home, allow me to tell you about some of the park's me and my friend visited in our Eastren Europe trip, this time: 'Rabkoland': I had never literally had to drive through the local market to get to an amusement park parking lot, but this first was now for Rabkoland . In some of the photos you can find on the internet, you can also see the market on the right and the entrance to the park on the left, quite an experience I must say! Rabkoland is a small charming amusement park with a lot of theming and with a real amusement park feeling , so this is certainly not a permanent fair as you often encounter in these parts. The park surprised us in a positive way, although of course it was the roller coaster for which we came here especially. There are actually 2, but one is so small that it is impossible to do it, even for most children this is already a real problem. It is the Wiking Coaster, a Kiddy Racer from Gerstlauer . The roller coaster we did come for is Kopalnia Złota , a Junior Coaster from the Italian DPV Rides , which unfortunately gave away a slightly less smooth ride. 'Czorsztyn ski Kluszkowce': At Czorsztyn-ski Kluszkowce we find the alpine coaster Kolejka Górska. It was built in 2001 by the German manufacturer Wiegand. The alpine coaster is 700 meters long. It was the last stop for us in Poland before crossing the border into Slovakia later that day.
I can see them going all out on 100 years of The Big Dipper, retro merch, a spruce up of the ride and in the station, ride operators wearing 1920-1930 style uniform. Maybe have some swing music like Glen Miller in the station. Get an artist to do some art inside the station like paintings of old pictures. Steeple Chase will be removed a reckon. I would want them to add a Vekoma Bermuda blitz around the bollodrome area. Should be in the price range and it would be a good signature attraction for the north side of the park and having that over the new park entrance like you suggested would look really good.
Love this idea can we just appreciate that a rollercoaster turning 100 is a bloody big deal !! and something they need to be shooting from the roof tops about .
I know this might sound about hokey now but wouldn't it be nice if The Queen did a 100 year old birthday card for the dipper like us adults have if we live to 100?
This park will always be special to me but I will admit that it needs a refurbishment, especially on some of the rides such as the grandnational or Valhalla but it's got such a friendly and calm atmosphere. Every time I've been, the staff are always lovely and I'm actually quite lucky to live at the other end of the pleasure beach. The only thing I think they should change is some of the smaller rides such as steeplechase, the impossible and maybe the rivercaves. • Steeplechase is such an uncomfortable ride. Every time I've been on it I'm always left with a mark on my hip from when it turns around the sharp corners. I'm not sure if you have ever experienced this or if it's just me but I honestly think they should look towards removing it and replacing it with some other flat ride. • the impossible is unique but it does get boring as it's one of them you can only do once since you know what to expect. It's effects sometimes tend to not work and I feel like they could improve this ride alot, maybe add new things in or update some stuff. This goes for the river caves too. It's one of my favourite rides although they could add some audio towards the end and maybe and again update it. Appart from that I love this park and i can't wait to see what they do next.
I love this channel and I think pleasure Beach should get a b&m winged coaster. Yes I know it's highly unlikely I have been to the park at least 20 times but a winged coaster would be amazing
@@masterknife8423 it would be amazing as grand national takes up so much space and a winged coaster would be an awesome alternative as eavier side of the train could replace the dual train
I feel that as a family owned park Blackpool Pleasure Beach is a lot harder to predict than the Merlin parks, so I'll just drop my wish list. Wish list: New Vekoma trains for Infusion/River Caves refurb Gerstlauer Bobsled Coaster in the space of wild mouse & trauma towers. RMC Grand National Rebuild/refurb and reopen Noah's Ark BPB history museum, new lighting, replace planet rock with a new dark ride.
A new flat ride to replace the Wild Mouse or the Flintstone themed arcade on the other side. Other than new rides I think the River Caves needs a complete overhaul. No change of theming just give it a big clean-up. Also a new entrance too. Noah's Ark is a total eyesore
For me id update the River Caves. Its my favourite ride at pleasure Beach but what they could do with modern tech, while maintaining its soul, is immense. Not talking a complete overhaul because its still generally really impressive even for a ride so old, but some newer effects and additions would be really good.
Well said Shawn regarding BPB heritage, some enthusiasts don't seem to understand that the industry is a business and sometimes its time for some older coasters to have huge changes/be replaced with more modern technology. I personally do not agree with rollercoasters being listed, for this reason, it holds back progress. I agree the Pleasure Beach is in need of a good mid-tier family coaster, but I also think its missing one more major coaster and thrill ride. Ice Blast has had its day and I think the S&S spin shot product should be added to this as it would be inexpensive compared to a new ride. Alternatively, if this is not possible it should be replaced with Intamins new drop tower which puts riders face down such as Grona Lunds Ikaros - advertised right, 200ft facing out to sea, face down, the vertical drop would definitely bring in the crowds. I personally think an RMC single rail (Custom layout) could fit next to River Caves and do an L shaped layout over the eateries, Impossible, the Wild Mouse site and wrap around the fountains as you suggest. That would be the dream but I imagine quite pricey which is a shame as they are were designed to be for small-mid tier parks. Good idea though regarding Gerstlauer family coaster!
Sorry for being so late, but I thought I'd chip in my thoughts, if I may. I completely agree with the Gerstlauer bobsled. They are fantastic rides, and I'd prefer that to an extreme coaster. Wild Mouse was good, but a bobsled could be even better. Personally I wouldn't RMC Grand National, but I'd certainly reprofile it (and Big Dipper). The layouts are great, but I don't think their issues can be solved without a fundamental improvement to the profiling. I wouldn't even mind using GCI's Titan Track, leaving Streak (which is excellent) as the park's full-size true woodie. Finally, I'd completely replace Steeplechase with a really good family coaster, possibly a Vekoma LIM-launched like Big Bear Mountain. You could even have a motorbike coaster and have horses instead of bikes.
Hundred percent retrack big dipper. And repaint it, add some theming and other elements, id say temporarily remove the grand national and add new theming, and once done RMC it, also remove infusion in 3-5 years and replace it with either a b and wing or b and m invert, would be really cool to get some more b and m coasters in the uk
Some interesting plans and would love to see lots of these happening. Sadly can’t see the park getting another new ride for at least five years given finances and the pandemic.
Your changes / improvements sound modest. I'd like to see bigger risks and potentially bigger rewards (if possible). I think a B&M dive machine in the space of Infusion / cross the road to the spaces of Bowladrome, Planet rock and car park would create the biggest possible wow factor in the park (more so than an RMC). People love looking at Oblivion. The rush of the dive to me still feels top notch. A low to the ground Intamin family jetski double launch coaster might be possible in the space of Sky Force - Steeplechase and Gallopers with some rejigging of walkways over there, wedging it in amongst Icon and Big Dipper (it would be tricky for sure). That would however keep the great views of The Big Blue hotel and just be a far more pleasurable modern coaster than Steeplechase. I think the Grand National is beyond saviour and I'd just like to see a new custom GCI in its place. Not sure a racer would be possible but that would be ideal "Grand National legends" and just name the trains after famous horses such as Red Rum and Comply or Die etc.
The only big Theme Park in the UK I haven't been is Thorpe Park. I've been: Alton Towers Blackpool Pleasure Beach Drayton Manor Disney Land Paris Gulivers ... etc Hopefully 2021 is the Year I get to visit Thorpe Park.
I swear if they get a S&S sky swing, I would cry with utter joy. Or even a HUSS discus! I know it's not likely but I have noticed the absence of a swing ride there. I saw you in Alton Towers on the river Rapids ride! I was going to call out a 'hello' but was too shy 😅😅
What i would love for you to do is create a new planet coaster series where you rebuild blackpool but as you would like to see it in 5 years time kind of thing, that would be great
The past is important, that’s why a museum would be important cause that’s what sets Blackpool part from newer parks. But for me Grand national last time I went on it was so rough I was genuinely in pain for about 20 mins 😂 would love to see something new using that space
hi SHAUN could u please do a video for pleasure wood hills in lowerstoft Suffolk like what you just did 15 minutes ago . happy New year to you shaun in 2021
Finally someone with sense. We would only all mope about and miss it when it was gone. It’s an intense experience, that yes may need some refurb to the track , but we don’t want to be stood in the queue like a bunch of old Yorkshire men n women “eeee it were better in my day”
Big Dipper re-track and water interactions like infusion. I’d also like to see maybe a junior inversion like icon but, I don’t want to ruin it for youngsters going on it.
my predictions are that they will continue the retrack of the big one they will also do something with the dome my wish list is rcm gran national put all year entertainment in the hot ice theatre remove infusion and put like a mini flat ride area in the dome so there is like an indoor area for when its wet
I’d be more thinking along the lines of track-replacement instead of destroying it. It would be interesting to know what could be allowed to preserve the ride!
Another great video of thoughts and ideas. I agree with new entrance and possible Bobsleigh coaster. My wishlist would be a complete overhaul also of Alice to a more modern dark ride. I would also consider removing Steeplechase and use that space to install a Vekoma Bermuda coaster like Lech. I also agree Nick land will get overhauled saving the money on the licence and also retrack the National.
First things first, the animals and dinosaurs on the Pleasure Beach Express need some love as they are falling apart. I would sort that before doing anything else. In terms of new rides I would love to see a Mack Big Dipper to replace the Wild Mouse and because I don't want to see any more classics go I would remove Infusion and replace it with an STC, or in a perfect world, an RMC single rail would go nicely there too. Also replace Ice Blast with a shot and drop tower and squeeze in a couple more flats if possible.
Good vid. I'd potentially swap Ice Blast for something like Falcons Fury. Like the idea of the entrance. I remember just being able to walk through that arcade into the park a long time ago.
@@ThemeParkWorldwide it could. More visible from the road plus that arcade is a bit dated. Also as they've updated the fronts of the buildings by the new hotel this would carry that on.
My favourite park in the UK is Thorpe Park but I do love Blackpool Pleasure Beach too. Icon is one of the best rollers (yes I call them rollers now) in the UK. Top 3 for me behind Hero (best roller in the world) and Infusion! The Ultimate is also one of the best coasters in the world
I went in that dome in 2016, disgusting although I would love to see a ride in there, and in the old black hole venue. I love impossible but if it meant a new coaster, id let it go. I absolutely love the idea of the new entrance! A huge pleasure beach logo with lights! I genuinely really hope they do EXACTLY what you said concerning the entrance and Noahs ark
@@ThemeParkWorldwide hi Shawn this is just a bit of a random question but do you know anything about whats happening about the coaster and flat ride at poultans park
Personally what I would do is I would build a new three-storey building where trauma Towers was which would be a replacement eatery for FY4, but the height of the ground floor rooms is significantly more of the other floors and that way you have enough room for an indoor modern flat ride inside as well. Finally when finances allowed for it I would build a new rollercoaster where FY4 and top Bowl currently are, either an indoor coaster or a GCI Woodie, that way it would bring the parks wooden coaster account back up to 5 again. Heck maybe even an indoor GCI!?🤔 I mean that would certainly help to give it a USP of some sort.
The ride that seems most out of place, to me, is Ice Blast. Surely, a taller tower with better capacity, or a star flyer, or maybe a big gyro swing would make better use of the space?
I'd love to see new carts on grand national and update the old flume. Maybe get some new restraints on infusion because its actually painful when ur on it now
I didn’t didn’t ding the Big Dipper that rough. It has pretty good airtime to. I was also surprised that Blackpool could afford Mack rides so that gives me confidence for coasters in the future
There are plenty of hotels in Blackpool town and few caravan parks. I also live something like that away, but been there in accommodation. You can also see rest of Blackpool then.
went to bpb for the first time last year after watching so many of your vlogs, icon was great. didnt expect the big one to be so rough, put my hands up for the first drop and grabbed on for the rest of the ride, hand rail and facemask. big dipper you can feel the back of the seats flexing going round corners. i trust in the safety and engineering of these rides but i felt uneasy, grand national... RMC! ok watched until the end now.... you said rmc too.. gotta have a zero g stall!
Agreed on grand national, said it for years as a civil engineer, even researched into, what type of grade the concrete i.e c20,c30,and c40. Which determines the superstructure sat on top of. I have ran an AutoCAD simulation of design based in the basic layout as it stands. With some of RMC's layouts and to be honest to have say for argument sake, the space invader building would need to go to allow for secondary and tertiary hump back turns into tertiary bunny's allowing for the train to reach the station as RMC trains are quite a bit heavier loaded due to style layout I.e hybrid/steel track. Not a typical US RMC layout, but dose work with overbank zero g rolls x2, and a small hangtime roll, also was tried at 135ft first hill, tried 145 and 180ft, too much track needed for trim braking you'll know what I really mean by this Shawn, but can be done but on a smaller scale. Great vlog by the way but any thoughts to a travel planning vlog based around what flights, trains and local UK airports offer from March to September to get you close or right there, would help in the affordability planning of a euro/us trip.
Im hoping the big dipper gets a refurb for its 100th! If this does happen i think we could see it closing the end of this year with an announcement being made. As for nash i could see it being cheaper to get a new woodie than spend all the money on a full retrack as i havent ridden it for years due to its roughness and im not a big lad but i find the trains painful how your squashed into them thanks to the seat dividers.
I noticed when I went last year that the paint on the outer facade for thrill-o-matic was peeling away, especially on the giant Wallace and gromit, so personally I would refurbish the facade if it’s going to be there for a while longer
Grand National is the roughest roller coaster I've ridden in my opinion. However the layout is too good to waste. An RMC of Grand National would be incredible, although unlikely :(
I think the grand national doesn't need a re-track. It's such a historic ride and doing so would be like taking that little bit of it's history away. For as long as I can remember it has always been a rough ride, it even warns you of that to and so I hate how people complain after riding it despite the sign. • honestly i don't think it's too rough at all buts that just from my experience and I've sat at the back many of times but it does vary. I went In 2020 serval times and being completely honest, it was not rough at all. I think it just depends on the time, and weather conditions and where abouts you sit. But I will say the very back section is not a good place to sit towards the end of the day.
My prediction: 2021: Valhalla refurb 2022: Valhalla opens 2023: General refurbishment and spruce ups 2024: Flat ride to replace sky force 2025: Steeple chase closed and future of Grand national uncertain 2026: RMC raptor or small ride in place of steeple chase 2027: New entrance to park 2028: More ride referbs (steel coasters) 2029: FY4 preparation 2030 and beyond: FY4 ride. (idk what but I love your idea)
If revolution ends up going Id say fit a b and m dive coaster there with three inversions. And removal of infusion and it getting replaced with either a b and m invert or wing coaster
The Grand National was designated as a Grade II listed building ("buildings that are of special interest, warranting every effort to preserve them") on 19 April 2017. So It may not be possible for RMC to rework it.
I think Blackpool Pleasure Beach need to do some refurbishment on the scenes on the Pleasure Beach Express. I really like the idea of FY4 and a new entrance! I’d love to see a flying or wing coaster there. They need to add an entrance for hotel guests at the south end of the park as well! Amanda Thomson you better be taking notes. 😂😂
