Let adults do what they want with their bodies
@zacktelander
@zacktelander 6 месяцев назад
Expand on this. To what extent? What’s the line at which we are glorifying drug use? Is cocaine ok to do on video? No? Is tren? Yes? Everything? To throw a blanket statement like this with absolutely zero nuance or consideration for any other side is precisely why I make these videos. You are the exact person I describe in this video.
@josephbloxham3992
@josephbloxham3992 6 месяцев назад
@@zacktelander happy to. We are generally open to letting people discuss other kinds of drug use. There are songs, movies, places of business that cater to other drugs. We generally are okay with people drinking openly, smoking on video, and cocaine is a common place in film and music. Are we glorifying alcoholism with songs like "I love this bar?" I think your point about understanding the risks of their drug use is important, but anytime we call for action on substances like this we inch towards the kind of criminalization and prohibition that defined prohibition and the last 50 years of marijuana policy. I'm not up for sending people to jail for people choosing what they want to do with their own bodies, and I also think it drives avenues to discuss safe use underground.

@@zacktelander that is a tiktok issue not a drug issue. If they allow one drug or another that is there choice. If it was decided that people can have choices of vaccines to put in our bodies, people can put stuff not labeled for human consumption in their bodies if they chose to. Hell we had a president suggest using a disinfectant to clean the rona out of your body! lol that isnt for human consumption either.

@@josephbloxham3992 Open Drug Use is nothing like prohibition. Humans have been drinking alcohol since 3000+ BC, thats how we know its "safe". Humans have been taking synthetic hormones like 50-100 years, and designer stuff way less 10-20 years. Prohibition is bullshit because we know alcohol wasn't ruining society, in many ways it helped create early society (see Mesopotamia potable water vs beer). Banning substances from adults is totally reasonable in some cases, for instance cyanide and anthrax are both controlled substances and thats a good thing. Same goes for Benzos and opiods, they should be controlled, or people would be ODing way more.
@davidzubkis
@davidzubkis 6 месяцев назад
@@zacktelander The most insidious aspect of these drugs is that their broad appeal grounded in aesthetics and looks NOT performance -- something you've touched on before. If they only improved performance and nothing else, they would be so niche that I'm not sure it would be worth regulating them. The problem is that people conflate looking good (jacked, shredded, lean, etc) with fitness/health--in large part because that's how health and fitness has been sold to people in the US since it was something you could sell. I'm old enough to remember when George Bush Sr. appointed Arnold as the Chairman of the President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sport--the symbol the US government chose to embody "health". That's just one example, but is it any wonder people's minds are beyond warped at this point?

As a personal trainer in a gym where fellow trainers and gym goers alike take (and brag about) loads of gear usage, I’ve come to one simple conclusion. They take it for legitimate self esteem concerns. I know I will open myself up to a crop of hormonal and passionate gear heads telling me “I’m jealous” or “I’m a hater” or my favorite “ enjoy being small and weak.” I can honestly say they can HAVE the drugs. My life is great, I compete happily at a high level in rugby, and I don’t have to worry about losing function of my nuts by age 35. But I know “everything would be better on gear” 😂
@jwt-nu3ei
@jwt-nu3ei 6 месяцев назад
Not surprised to see you mention rugby: I think sport is the difference maker. Most these kids, and the influencers, seem to have gotten into lifting because they felt physically inadequate, with it nearly always stemming from their lifestyles when they were kids. For some, the self esteem issue resolves itself when they get in shape. For others it becomes a bottomless pit. Every RU-vid transformation video dating back to Zyzz himself is the same: ‘I spent all day gaming, got to 16 and girls didn’t like me, guys called me fat / skinny, so I decided to make a change *cue beat drop*’”.

I have to say that with the amount of information out there the kids already KNOW that taking these things is not good for them, yet they do so anyway because of role models, youtubers justifying or normalizing it - even ppl like G Doucette, and it's kinda difficult to sympathize with them which it wasn't before. A greater amount of youth today search for short cuts for everything in life - money, fame, image, strength then these things happen, they don't want to take time to build character, time to learn, accept that frustration and patience is key to development. But I'm glad you make these videos anyway.

Surely they know that there are risks, but the extent and permanence of them is lost on a lot of users I think. Especially when it comes to untested research chemicals... It's a huge reason why teens do any drug tbh. All my opinion of course.

They sort of get that it's got potential bad side effects, but they haven't fully understood the gravity of it. No 20 year old gives any thought to their heart health, it's not even on the radar. Nor should it be, they're at that age when they get their health for free. Steroids changes that, though. That, and their hormone balance, fertility, internal organs, mental health, and who knows what else. You might get them to worry about gyno, but not much else. I'm just an old man yelling at clouds.

I have been following this problem since I was a young pre-teen athlete. I’m happy you’re talking about it. It saddens me because young men will die. I have taken a bit of a hiatus from both the gym and my athletic passion (MMA) rn to look after my body with physical therapy and get my personal life in order. This issue motivates me to reach the highest levels of athleticism I can naturally because we as a generation are lacking in roll models in this. Fake naturals really have induced a sort of body nihilism when it comes to what you can achieve naturally and it is messing a lot of people up. It’s not enough that people are forthcoming with their drug use. There have to be natural examples that people can aspire to as well

That means that the Athletes are all honest about their use. Guys talk about it very openly and I have always preferred that honesty. However. I believe it has become too acceptable. Because natural guys no longer believe they can be competitive. That's what I've set out to prove. We need to get back to some semblance of reality where we don't end up promoting this shit especially to younger guys. And unfortunately, the only way I've found, is to show people that you can kick ass without them. Key differences: - Because we made cars we have quite a good understanding of how they work whereas the body is still under extensive research and there are huge amounts we do not know. - All parts in a car are replaceable, and when replaced are always successful. In a human only some parts can be replaced (e.g. kidneys) however with a high failure rate and massive downsides (including lifelong dependence on immunosuppressant drugs that impair the functioning of the rest of the body). Other parts cannot be replaced when destroyed e.g. the liver. - Modifications to a car generally improve functioning of one area and do not interfere with the others. Drugs generally improve functioning in one area with side effects that usually impair function in other areas. E.g. anabolics reliably increase muscle mass, but also reliably derange blood lipids, increase blood pressure and lower intelligence.

I think this is a reaction to the fake natties explosion of those years. So (probably) these guys, after training naturally for 1 or 2 years, have noticed that they were not even close to the results of their favorite fake natty youtuber, so they realized that the "you're not training hard enough/eating enough" was a lie, and thought "screw it! I'm hopping on tren and tell everyone about it!". Anyway, all this really makes me sad, because many many young guys go to the gym with unreal expectations, and when i tell those guys that i trained for way more than two or three years, they think i look like sht because their (fake) natural standard is not Igor Opeshansky (Vitruvian Physique) or Jesse James West (that i believe are actually natty and trained for years), but all these ig totally fake natties; so i think that, in the years to come, unfortunately, we are going to see more and more of these frustrated roid users.

I'm taking a peak behind the curtain this year, and competing in bodybuilding. Bodybuilding is the easiest training I've ever done; it's difficult to stay engaged with. This experience has moved me over to laugh in the face of PED users camp. What an absolute joke. They're taking the easiest thing in the gym, making it easier, and then basing their egos on their "accomplishment". Maybe try being successful with what God gave you, you'll have a healthier ego and probably a better group of people around you.
@thomasspielman577
@thomasspielman577 6 месяцев назад
I've learned to just embrace it. It's an unfortunate reality. Trying to ban PEDs in sports and trying to control everything is an absolute waste of time, money, and mental energy. You will never have clean sports. Never. You will never stop people from doing these drugs. The best thing you can hope for is teaching personal responsibility and mature decision-making.
@DeletedUserAccount
@DeletedUserAccount 5 месяцев назад
Part of the issue is that hard work and being natural will not allow someone to be competitive within certain parameters. Nobody natural is going to total 2000lbs while weighing under 250lbs. It is not just about appearance but also performance. Austin Perkins squatted a tad over 700 in competition while weighing something like ~160. At that point PEDs are required to compete. It is the same story with weightlifting but every time it happens in weightlifting it gets swept under the rug.

I have as a personal trainer a big guy who once placed top 5 in an international strong man competition. He describes the process of using gear and other chemicals as "creating a different species within your body". In that world you might eat 600 grams of carbs on top of your standard 250g protein, and then inject insulin in order to help your body process the shear volume of sugars. I don't hate on anyone who does it, and I don't think anyone should. For them it's about getting the most performance out of a human body possible, and they go in with their eyes open. It's not for me. I'm happy to be natty at 5'10", 185 lbs 16% body fat. I'm hoping to get to 190lbs and 13% body fat, but recognize that may take many years.

40yrs old and on TRT past couple years and feel fantastic. Test is sitting around 500-650ish which is perfect for me. Thought about using gear back in the day when I started working out in early 30s but decided that if I wasn't going to be doing it professionally then why bother, because I understood the risks and everything associated with it. At 18-27 you feel invincible and think nothing bad will EVER happen to you because you're at the height of your game and everything validates that belief so no wonder this stuff is spiking up like crazy, I mean at 20-22 with my brain still not fully developed I'd probably have bought into it as well if social media had been a major thing like it is now. You get bombarded by these social media profiles day in and day out, only highlighting the best of the best and you just eat that up thinking your life is shit in comparison. Meanwhile these people probably have a really mundane week all the time, taking 100s of photos in different lighting for hours in order to pick out the 1 or 2 they show you, and are going to die at 35/40 because they are cruising 24/7 365 with no idea what they are doing beyond some other idiots on social media pretending they know their shit cuz "worked for me"

"Research Chemicals" need harsher regulation from the FDA to ensure the safety of many uninformed individuals and the overall safety of America's impressionable youth. This regulation should allow legitimate laboratories to conduct important scientific research with these compounds and chemicals but should ban the sale of these dangerous chemicals to unlicensed buyers. Though the improvement of knowledge should be incentivized within The United States’ governing bodies, it should not be placed ahead of the general public’s health and safety.

No one makes a video about the median lifter who appreciates open conversations about steroid use, especially considering spurious regulations for international bodies like IWF. The reason you see pendulum swings is because its the long tail of the distribution of behavior, spurred on by general acceptance. Any educated person in the area would probably agree that it's not productive to completely ban conversation about steroids and keep it all hush-hush while most men look to attain these enhanced physiques, which is what the situation was just a few years ago. We have to strike a balance, and I don't think it's possible to completely remove these extreme examples of behavior, especially when news outlets and the general public are going to reinforce that behavior by sharing the video.

The pendulum swings but only so long as there is input. Its extreme to one end now, but in a few years it'll swing to a more moderate place. Yes people/kids will harm themselves from their own stupidity in the mean time but on the long term open use helps more than it hurts. This overcorrection in openness/glorification is a result of it being closed prior. If anything it should be more open and medically supervised. If the pendulum gets additional stimulus by the government banning and further prosecuting individual use it doesnt really impact use as much as it xoes impact the danger.

We can decry this all we like, but until we actually do something about the source of all this - the social media entertainment complex - we won't solve anything. The conversation about gear in sports is very tricky. The idea of personal freedom is arguably even more complicated. We can defend individual liberties all we want but this trascends the individual because we have to factor in social media and the massive influence it has on people's choices. The problem is that some rhetorics are getting teenagers and very young adults to abuse dangerous substances and potentially cut their lives short to please some social media algorithm. It's young people doing gear for very questionable motives, influenced by brands that stand to benefit and other gear users who want company. They're not professional athletes under strict supervision training for a very specific goal. They're mostly just kids looking for 15 minutes of fame on tiktok, putting more at risk than they realize because they have no clue what they're doing. Some people are so dependant on social media, they'll base their whole persona on getting more attention and it'll drive them to do anything. And certain companies know and will exploit this for a financial benefit. That's messed up.

I think many of the younger folks miss a tremendous bit of context when it comes to gear. That there is a mountain of difference between a 38 y/o who's already gotten what they have out of life, are in a stable life stage, know what they want to achieve physically and health wise, have done the mountains of research, and are mitigating risk with a physician; and a 22 y/o who just wants bigger pumps faster. While it is better, I guess maybe, that gear is being de- stigmatized, it also shouldn't necessarily be glorified either. It's a means to an end at best, not a way of life or a hobby. I don't think they realize that they'll be the ones making up the dataset of a research paper titled something like "the long term of effects of anabolic steroids and research chemicals on human brain and body health when started during puberty". Please y'all, don't be a lab rat, your future self deserves better.
