Psychiatrists also need to be able to look at the organ they're treating. I can't get a scan of my brain. Insurance won't cover it and doctors don't recommend it. Strange, cardiologists look at the hearts of their patients. Orthopaedic doctors take all kinds of scans to look at bones, muscles. Pulmonologists look at lungs of their patients. Gastro, OB/GYN and others. Psychiatrists...guess. There's something really wrong going on here. And afraid it won't be dealt with any time soon. The most important organ in the body in my opinion, needs to be healthy in order for people to deal with their particular diseases, diagnosed by what...? "Imaging!" Let's look at the brain! I want to know what is happening when I'm depressed and anxious and afraid. I'm tired of being told, "just go for a walk. Everything will be fine." Not to mention of the countless medications, therapy, and the stigma of having mental disease. No real compassion. Andrew Solomon said, "depression is the loss of love." I don't see the compassion and love in the psychiatric community. Not really. What a damn loss of some potentially important breakthroughs. An awful shame.

Psychiatrists dont treat organs, there is no disease so why mention organs?. The brain has nothing to do with life's problems. Psychiatrists create mental illness

This is a smart, intelligent speaker and I feel compelled to write a comment since the only comment noted here is obviously from an uninformed individual that needs to educate his or herself.

Seems to be a very broken system. Will take years to fix the current distribution of care. Sad for all of us breathing today.
