Great review. I agree the AVP is an AR not VR device. It’s a distinction Apple tried to make from as far back as the keynote. Remember how focused they were on AR, each scenario showing the user in control of the level of immersion at all times, the feature built in almost as a safety measure. The setting of people entering the users space slowly triggering them to fadie into the users awareness proves AR is the default reality. At the time, Apple was heavily criticized for barely mentioning “gaming” but it seems the correct decision considering all the controversy since its release. Time will tell which company had the right approach but I bet my bottom dollar it’s Meta working furiously behind the scenes to become more like AVP than Apple is to be like the Quest.
@freeman038

What are you talking about? Vision Pro is no “AR” at all. It’s MR or Mixed Reality by definition. AR means you see world with your own eyes (not cameras!), while the gadget projects information to “augment”what you see. This is why Google Glass was AR but Vision Pro is NOT.
@sharonb.9128
@sharonb.9128 3 месяца назад
@@freeman038 you’re right. My language should have been more precise. Although the AVP actually being an AR device was not my point. Let me rephrase it and say I’m thinking of the AVP passthrough image as “reality”. The latency is so low it’s undetectable by the human eye. So my point was Apple’s keynote focused on users being able to remain in PASSTHROUGH mode while utilizing the vast majority of the AVP’s features. The device has a “setting allowing people entering the users space while immersed in VR to slowly fade into the users awareness proves PASSTHROUGH mode is the default” I also meant time will tell if Apple’s focus on creating the best PASSTHROUGH on the market and allowing users to choose their level of VR immersion or will Meta’s focus on creating a gaming VR headset with a barely tolerable passthrough mode be the winning approach for mass consumer adoption.

I loved the way you spoke about your experience. And you weren’t trying to gaslight us on anything. It’s so refreshing to not see a video about the super expensive Apple Vision Pro that’s very expensive because Apple decided to make it so expensive that it’s expensive.

We have the same 3 headsets! I haven’t used it much for work as I have two 49” Ultrawide displays at home and work. I prefer wide over square. But I can see the use for that on the go.

Apple Vision Pro has the flexibility to move the display closer to you. This would, in theory, increases the quality, clarity, etc. When I mirror my Mac, I can see the display better because I can move the display closer to me or enlarge it.

Bro meta quest 3 your in pass through when you put the headset on too. He says like that’s only unique to Vision Pro
@DatDude923
@DatDude923 3 месяца назад
Watch the portion again he actually talked about the quest 3 versus the quest pro. Also, I own pretty much every quest that has ever come out. And I can assure you, if you’ve only seen videos posted about the quest, and it’s passthrough, then what you’re seeing is not a real representation of the quest’s passthrough. That’s just a video stream that it records. It doesn’t record what you actually see, It’s warped, and the colors are faded. The quest 3 has the best passthrough of all of the quests, but it can’t compete with apple’s.

@@jeradhilltech - I have a guy a work who just bought a stand for his computer, because of neck issues. Same day, the thing tilted forward and his computer smashed to the ground. Luckily it still works. This got me thinking how, in future, people with neck injuries or issues can benefit from this. I guess.

[9:36] Horrible idea…the weight is already too much for many, and on the precipice of being too much for the rest of us… It’s simple; just slide the battery down your back inside your shirt and place the battery in your pocket. I actually have it clipped to my waist on the opposite side… What I do wish was a that they ADDED a MagSafe option to the BATTERY like on the iPhone… 🤔
@acslater017
@acslater017 3 месяца назад
It should at least be an option. Many other headsets, from VR to infantry helmets, have a similar layout and it helps because it counterbalances the weight. For many people it’s not an issue purely of how many grams are on the head but where it’s falling, eg on the cheekbones or brow. I assume they didn’t go with MagSafe because unlike a MacBook, it doesn’t have an internal battery. If it gets unplugged the user’s view goes black instantly and they could actually hurt themselves.
@superzero4250
@superzero4250 3 месяца назад
@@acslater017 From personal experience using VP for virtually a month now, with only the Solo Knit Band, if you simply slide the band down further behind your head, the pressure on one’s cheeks is significantly reduced. There may be increased pressure on the forehead, then just slide it up a little. It literally is a balancing act one must perform to find optimal comfort, in combination with the tightening knob’s subtle adjustments, we have found the headset to be quite comfortable, and have spent multiple hours consecutively enjoying the  Vision Pro… As for MagSafe, I was referring to the actually battery being able to charge via MagSafe in addition to the USB-C port, NOT the headset itself. That way, if you did walk away with it clipped to your waist, the charge cable would detach. The battery connection to the headset itself is brilliant and necessary, as you mentioned, everything suddenly fades to black after a few seconds… 🤔

Meta quest 3 does the same stuff and more for a lot cheaper
@acslater017

M2 has 3x the single core and 8x the multi core performance of the Quest’s Snapdragon, the display has *2.5x* the resolution, it does precise eye tracking not just foveated rendering, relaxed hand tracking not arms out, iris scanning (not only for unlocking but saved passwords, addresses, and Apple Pay) not a PIN code, realistic personas and not cartoon avatars. and of course it integrates with the Apple ecosystem, running the iOS App Library, Messages, Mail, Files, iCloud, Safari, Keychain, Photos (180 panoramas, spatial videos), AppleTV, Music, etc. It’s the “same stuff” except the processor, the display, the operating system, the user input method and interface, the software, and the ecosystem. Not to mention Apple’s track record of privacy vs. Meta’s.

Not nearly the “same” USER EXPERIENCE though! Why is that a hard concept? It’s like you saying you both flew on the same plane, but the AVP is first class while the Quest is coach!
@davidcache

You are totally correct sir, the vision pro has a slightly better camera, The OLED is of higher definition, but the quest 3's a beast, without mentioning the great lineup of apps on the quest, the wifi 6e allows much lower latency than the vision pro, and I'd argue the quest is all around a better device. The M2 and R1 processors are dope, but QUALCOMM's application specific logic offloads the entirety of it's ar, mr, compression, decompression, and reprojecting, so the quest 3s arm processor is able to focus on OS and applications. The vision pro also has a lower field of view and maybe this dude had a bad case of oversight, but the screen mirroring is absolute fire on the quest3. The wifi 6e is lower latency, airlink is bananas (steam link, even BETTER). Also, while the cameras may be lower resolution, they aren't far from the vision pro and most users prefer its performance in low light conditions. I think the vision pro was late to the party, this device is mostly for developing using apples SDK. Apple will undoubtedly release a vision air, or vision (non pro) and that will be in true competition to the quest. apple's vision goggles needs a remote of some sort, I don't see it becoming as capable as other VR devices without one. I'm sure someone will compile something for the vision to use a quest remotes, Im also just as confident Apple will release a way to control this thing thats not making duck faces with our hands.

I’m shocked you praised the pass through, it looks nothing like what Apple advertised in the keynote, the color accuracy is horrible, it’s very pixelated, especially in low light. It’s also surprising you didn’t mention the field of view as an issue, the was one of the reasons I returned mine. I didn’t enjoy watching content like I’m looking through binoculars, I would rather watch content from my 4K projector.

The field of view thing is subjective and also depends on the light seal your given. But I completely agree with you on the pass through. That was my first big disappointment with the device.

@@acslater017 - I think a big part of the issue is that the quality of the internal displays is so good, that having a representation of the external environment that isn’t crystal clear is kind of jarring.
@acslater017
@acslater017 3 месяца назад
@@jeromescott2113Agreed, mixed reality content looks basically perfect in comparison. They’ve nailed that part of the visual experience. Passthrough looks relatively dim and blotchy, compared both with reality and the marketing material. Although I wonder if the dim part could just be adjusted in a software update. It seems to have the opposite problem of most headsets, whose cameras get overexposed in direct sunlight. To its credit AVP handles bright light like a champ, it’s just my perfectly lit living room looks dim 😂

You're keeping it for productivity? Sorry to disappoint you, quest 3 is far better than AVP in terms of virtual workspace. It seems this is a very subjective opinion. Vision pro is going back to the apple store because people purchase it just to experience it. AVP is heavy not only heavy on weight but also in price. Come on, don't justify it as more returns are happening.
