Dimash is a once-in-a-lifetime artist, that's for sure! I saw him live twice last year & I am going to 2 concerts this May! He is in Budapest on 4th May & then, on his birthday on 24th May, he is in Istanbul in a huge arena. I can't wait. He is amazing in his concerts. His voice is just perfection. It's a shame you weren't aware of him in 2019 when he had a sellout concert in New York. You can see the whole thing on YT. It was a wonderful concert. The instrument in this song is an old Kazakh one called a kobyz. It has a beautiful, ethereal sound & is featured in most of Dimash's folk songs, which are fantastic. That instrument is called a Kobyz. It is a common instrument used in his homeland of Kazakhstan. When Maestro Krutoy (on piano here) was composing this song it was dimash's idea to incorporate that instrument into this performance which made it the Masterpiece that it is

Hello again from Minneapolis! It is my DREAM to see him live. People say his voice acrually vibrates your body. It is a totally different style, but Ikanaide from the Tokyo Jazz Festival is my favorite and it makes me cry every time. To me, it is a master class in singing technique. You are just starting on the Dimash journey so I hate to push you straigh to his newer stuff, but his new MV of "When I've Got You" is also a totally different style and the most "commercial" song that us "normal" people, can actually sing along to.

His voice is so pure and angelic that it transport you to a different dimension when you listen to him sing. He often down play his impossible range, only to say that he does what the song required him to do, and he always give it his best. When he hit those high notes, it's always pure and crystal clear. Never pushing, straining, or sound brassy, like most others who attempt those impossible high notes. The haunting sound from the 2 string instrument is call, Kobyz. Traditional instrument around Kazakhstan and central Asia. The guy at the piano, Igor Krutoy, is a famous Russian composer who came out of retirement to write songs for Dimash. You must understand, Dimash can't be put in a box or categorized, because he can sing anything and everything. As you dive deeper and deeper into Dimash's songs, you will realized that fact. He is so awesome, isn’t he? Stranger is one of my absolute favorite songs. I get goosebumps every time I hear it. I’m a real fan of movies that have such a mystical or oriental atmosphere. And it was such a great idea by Dimash to use the Qobyz for that. The Qobyz is a very old two stringed Kazakh folk instrument and it’s wide spread among Kazakhs. The man who often is playing the kobyz in Dimash’s performance (also here in Stranger) is the best on this instrument and a good friend of Dimash. His name is Olzhas Qurmanbek. You often can hear this instrument when Dimash sings in his native tongue like Samaltau, Qairan Elim or Òmir Òter. As a Kazakh he speaks Kazakh and Russian fluently. He sang Stranger for the first time at New Wave in Sochi, Russia in 2021. This is an international competition for young artists, founded in 2002 by Igor Krutoy. Dimash sang here as a guest and was also a member of the jury. Igor Krutoy, like so many other masterpieces, wrote this song specifically for Dimash and his incredible vocal range (in this song alone he sings 5 octaves F1-F6 I think). And the last note he held for 20 seconds. The way he switchs so affortlessly between the different registers and octaves in one song is so mesmerizing and unbelievable. Stranger was written by the famous Russian/Ukrainian composer, producer and songwriter Igor Krutoy. His and Dimash's collaboration created true masterpieces. He writes songs that only Dimash could sing with his vocal range, such as Olimpico, Stranger or Ave Maria. You’ll often see him accompanying Dimash on the piano. If Igor Krutoy is there, the song was also written by him.The two have no contract. Their cooperation is based more on mutual trust. It’s more like a father/son relationship. In my opinion, this version of Olimpico is one of the most impressive performances ever. If you don't know what the song is about, you'd think he was going to war and is calling his army to a lost battle 😅! It’s absolutely stunning. Everyone should get the chance to see him live at least once, people are flying in to his concert in Budapest on 4th May from over 61 countries including myself coming from the UK. I would definitely recommend a change of pace now and reacting to Dimash's most recent release When I've Got You. I would also recommend listening to some of his Kazakh songs like Samaltau and Qairan Elim.
