Cocoon looks like a pretty cool puzzle game. Haven’t seen anything like it before. Pizza Tower looks fun, but it’s also just a Wario Land 4 ripoff. I’m pretty sure the guy even used some of the same sound effects. Not exactly raising the bar or doing something unique.

2023 was a fantastic gaming year for me. I finished outstanding games like Dragon Quest 5, KOTOR, Yakuza 6 and played Mario Kart DS a lot. And I didn't buy a single game that was released this year.

I don't understand why they don't wait until like march of the next year to do a yearly award thing so you get all the games that came out in that year. How can you do a 2023 game award show when the year isn't even over yet or you can't include some games because they came out past september that year? Also: e-sports killed gaming. Worst thing to happen to gaming in the history of gaming.
Because it was never about the awards or honouring the industry first. That was just an excuse for creating it. The reason they air the show in December is so publishers can advertise sales for Christmas shopping. And having a game on sale that won an award might draw people in even more.
I'm not really a multiplayer guy, and even then I don't think cring-e-sports is THE worst thing to happen to games (it's up there though). The worst thing to happen IMO would be the prevalence of the druckmann types (which really took off in the past decade ever since the release of tlou1), much like their prevalence in other forms of media IYKWIM.

To be fair, Kojima did write much of the script with another guy doing the other half of the work, at least until MGS4. MGS 1 was his and the team's best work. Then the games started to become very bloated. MGS2 is its own thing and is a post-modernist masterpiece on its own. MGS3 was the last good game. MGS4 was a desperate attempt to tie up the story, sacrificing the gameplay for literal hour long cutscenes. MGS5 was peak style-over-substance Kojima writing and "movie" crap. No wonder it was in development hell for years and was unfinished with its 3rd Act entirely removed. Think of Kojima like Bethesda. He was good for his time, but has devolved into absolute bloated shovelware.
The best thing this game awards gave us is the spiderman 2 fanboys raging that their game didn’t win GOTY, they were so were so annoying that it made people realize that this game was mediocre and just not that good.
Honestly, for me it's really sad that Dredge doesn't won any awards. It's my own game of the year. Good lovecraftian atmosphere, simple, but well-thought gameplay, and great stylyzed look. It manages to be creepy and dark on one hand, and in the same time relaxing and comforting on other. Really great indie game, give it a shot Synth, it also will not take much of your time (like maybe 15 hours to 100%).
Idk about cocoon, but it has the same devoloper as Inside/Limbo I thought those artsy puzzle type games were pretty darn good. Not sure if cocoon has, "the message" or not so I can't speak for it. Pizza tower looks awesome though, i hope it comes to consoles, if so, sooner rather than later.

Nobody's on the streets if he can be in the NBA, and nobody writes video game music if he's an actual musician.

My family and I normally look forward to productions like this, E3, Tokyo Games Show, etc. But this time, my brother literally fell asleep 15 minutes in and I couldn't enjoy the show because of his snoring. That's how engaging it was.
Also if you want to try a game that let you play "far right" maybe try WH40K Rogue Trader? Its a CRPG in 40k universe with pretty well written dialogues and you can RP as dogmatic fanatical Imperial or maybe crazy chaos cultist if you want.
I haven't cared about gaming or played a new game in well over a decade. The constant decline of the medium has made it too embarrassing to even pretend to like. The most messed up thing is that I don't even miss it, I'll still play older games from time to time, but I have no desire to play any game that I see, even when they look "Retro" I have no interest in even getting them on the "High Seas".

It’s very obvious the atmosphere was simply more relaxed and fun back then. Even David Spade seemed relaxed as he went on stage. High profile celebrities are nothing new here. In 20 years we went from an awesome, good industry to one that is filled with everything I hate about modern society. PC gaming is the last bastion to me. And even then, Steam is already showing signs of decline.

A new game in [franchise] releases. Thanks really it. It doesn’t matter what the game plays like. They all hop on the hype train for about a month (before/after release) and then might come to terms with some critiques months later when they think twice about it. It’s more about the game as a venue for a flurry of positive emotions and a springboard to interact with people, than the actual merits of the game.
It really hurts to see Hyper Light Breaker associated with Sweet Baby. I had been incredibly excited for a sequel to Hyper Light Drifter for one year shy of a decade now but that makes me not even want to bother with it.

This month and year marks the 30th anniversary of DOOM, the game that changed the gaming industry. Two guys, John Carmack and John Romero, made a real hit. Even decades later, and all the garbage that has happened, I still have the utmost respect for these two. I never followed Romero's social media so I am unable of what he is doing at all these days. But the fact that literal 30 year old game is more fun and exciting than most any AAA game should tell you guys something. I wish I could go back to the late 90's and bathe in the glory of Half Life, Starcraft, Age of Empires, RollerCoaster Tycoon, Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, etc. Complete with 90's CRT TV, Windows 98 computer with CD-Rom drive and sound card/video card, 90's Cable TV running in the background, 90's music playing on the radio, and those Dungeons & Dragon hangouts with actual straight dudes passionate for the role playing game.

Armored Core VI won best action game and that was the best outcome of this timeline. They definitely knew putting the Brothers remaster at the start was definitely a ploy to draw you in lol. Was gonna get my old 360 out to replay that game so I’ll definitely take a steam remaster Also, they should just give the “innovation in accessibility” award to Microsoft for their special controller set up, that is genuinely beneficial to people with disabilities, not making people feel good about themselves for being represented.
