The game that ended Kobe Bryant's career. In this game he finished with 34 points before suffering an Achilles tear in the 4th quarter. He was never the same player after this injury.

With the context we now know, it makes you respect Kobe's toughness even more. He knew when it happened that he had blown his achilles. He asked Vitti if they could like hold it together until the end of the game. Then walked up, made both free throws. Walked back to the locker room, and then lost it. He understood at that point what he was facing. But he still walked up and knocked down two free throws, rather than allowing Dwight to be chosen to shoot them. It's a shame that given the two previous scares in the game, that the coaching staff didn't force Kobe out of the game. He had been refusing to come out, playing ridiculous minutes, trying to will them into the playoffs. Sometimes you have to protect a player from themselves.

I agree to an extent. Yes given what we know now Kobe always played on little sleep, played stupid minutes and always played hurt. But you have to ask, even if you take Kobe out this game, what's to stop him from getting hurt the next? Or when they made the playoffs? Kobe was never gonna play limited and even if you tried to he would just go all out next game.

Man, I'm still pissed this happened. He was one of the top five scorers in the league up to this point.

dantoni had him out ther 44 mins a game doing everything on this awful team...didnt ever try to get a post play despite having pau and dwight...i forever hate and wonder why mike dantoni aka hitler 2 gets hired as an NBA head coach he had nash and that fast offense that won nothing and the rockets and harden melo and NYC he sucks

So sad. He needed to rest. So many times his legs were hurt and then the Achilles had enough and gave out. If they had better team, this would of never happened. Kobe had to carry the team and that prematurely ended his career. He i think would of played until 40 and would be #1 scorer all time had he not gotten hurt.

No load management no sitting out with a playoff spot in jeopardy none of that man was already playing with multiple injuries and he still went out there and put on a show even after tearing the achilles he was tryimg to find a way to finish the game that is what's missing from this soft a$$ league today

Everytime I see this I think of MJ's flu game and LeBron getting carried off the court due to cramping and realize I can never put LeBron in the same conversation as these 2

terrible take. cramps are painful ESPECIALLY when you have a lot of mass. i just tore my achilles today playing at the target center AND THE EXACT same thing happened. i fell just like kobe did, was checking my heel and asked if somebody hit me. right when i asked i thought of kobe and knew what had happened. im not in pain. its not painful to walk. I JUST CANT WALK. my calf muscle is no longer attached to my heel. kobe walking off was more of him trying to be mentally tough for himself and his family. if he had a cramp in his thigh or calf he’d be on the floor until it loosened up.

If this doesn’t put into perspective of how Jordan would destroy even in this decade than I don’t know what will. Some players today would still be great in the previous eras but Jordan would still be at the top Id say

The team doctors should have withdrawn him earlier on when he a pain in his knee. He was limping and suffering all the time, after that. It was a matter of time that the enevitable would happen. They did not think that the athlete's health was top priority. Pity.
