Before what looks like a great shot at bringing D&D into mainstream cinema hits the screens next year, reminder to our RU-vid community that this gem was made on a budget of $1,000 and infinite heart and love for their passion. (links to send their new distributor some quid in the description!)
Heh, when the dm, cornered by the party, paused for a moment, I thought he was going to realize his power over them, and simply hit them with "rocks fall, everyone dies."
@@Thagesthoughts if we go by this video logic, the second they killed their own players they should have paused like the afk character was portraid through the entire journey
DM: "I want you to role-play this." New Wizard: "I noticed your group has no wizard." Barbarian: "You seem trustworthy, would you care to join us on our noble quest?" New Wizard: "Yes, yes I would." This is painfully accurate.
It's one of the cliches about some tables, especially with less experienced roleplayers. Like sometimes you just wanna get the game rolling again without adhering to the way the real world would work. Such as not just letting some random person accompany you when you first meet them in real life.
I actually thought at the very end, after she snarled about the gamers, she should have gotten a knock on her door, and Campus Security would be there, to warn her about all the screaming and screeching she was doing!
I know, its been how many years? Since this came out? I've fairly certain I remember my college buddies making things with this as inspiration around 2007, and its STILL one of my favorites- I still quote it when I play.
@@LightningGentleman Thanks man, that means so much, specially coming from you! :D But srsly thanks for this memento, I miss last year, that was great! Have a great year dude!
I got four friends to try D&D for the first time because of this movie. As much a classic today as it was thirteen (!) years ago. Thank you, Dead Gentlemen Productions!
This movie has a special place in my heart, both as a casual gamer of a couple of pen & paper RPG's (mostly D&D 3.5) and as an amateur filmmaker with low quality aesthetics ^_^
Here are some Easter Eggs from the new series that launched two years back: Yes, Rogar did increase his intelligence with that pen. However, for some reason he only raised it from 4 to 5. Nimble didn't just take Ambrose's knife, he also took his locket. Possibly before he even died. Or possibly from one of the others after he died.
@@a_mustache_of_great_repute It was a mediocre series that was meant to lead into a three-part film, "The Shadow Menace." The first part of that film was funded through Kickstarter, released, and it was god awful. If you liked The Gamers, Dorkness Rising, or even Hands of Fate, it'll be painful and completely devoid of any charm. I hate to crap on something so entirely, but it really IS that awful. It's better off not having a second or third part to it.
Really impressed with the cinematography. Camera-placement is super important to making something in a visual medium look and feel interesting and I'm glad that the number of types of shots was not kept small. In particularly the dynamic placement of the camera within the cramped quarters of the game room definitely lent the film a cozier sense. Clearly there would be no time or staff for toying with the color-grading, so I'm glad we got some good camera-placement. The acting was also really quite nice. The comedic-timing really nailed "The Shadow?!" running gag.
I have not watched this in yeaaaaaars. It must have been uploaded to another channel cause i remember this from 2009-2011. I had nothing but a smile on my face for the past 45 minutes.
Ok, let's see...str is strength, sta is stamina, dex is dexterity, int is inteligence, chr is charisma and luck doesn't need to be explained. But what kind of stat is gle supposed to be? Guile? And why isn't there any wisdom?
This came up in convo with mates as we were talking shop about DnD. Came back and rewatched this. So much nostalgia! Thankyou to the boys and girls who made this. Amazing!
Dead Gentlemen and Zombie Orpheus Entertainment seriously you guys are the coolest production company ever! Also I know myself and likely all your fans can't wait and hope you can keep bringing us the epic awesomeness of The Gamers and Journey Quest. Love pretty much everything you guys put out, also thanks for letting Doc keep this up as it is one continuous movie with no breaks :) Also I have made sure to view your section episodes also to help give you plenty of views on your main page!
I can't believe it's taken to 2019 for me to discover these movies and the company behind them. I can't fathom how disconnected I must have been. This is SO wrong...
Amazing work, thanks to this movie, I discovered top table RPGs... I had to find it and watch it again while setting up my own epic adventure! Thanks guys!
He travelled araound the world just to arrive where he started. Sounds like a metaphor for the player of the mage... Creating the same char that just died.
Drizzt Do'Urden is an inside joke amongst D&D players because so often people end up rolling a Dark Elf Ranger and the most shameless of them all pick (dual) scimitars for their weapons as well. The only way it could be even more true is if they somehow had access to one fire and one ice scimitar. Lots of Drizzt ripoffs in gaming. Hence the joke.
I've never played D&D, but I still really enjoyed this movie. I have played games based off of D&D such as Neverwinter Nights 1 & 2, Baldur's gate 1 & 2, Kotor 1 & 2, etc.
very well done guys, was very amusing, sometimes over the top, but all in all very entertaining! - even more funny since i play DSA and recognized many situations as ridiculous as you showed in the movie, especially when a new char joins the group, who you just met, instead of being sceptical or arguing with the game master about rules or resay what has been not said :D :p or not being able to differentiate OT (OutTime) and IT (InTime)
