In this video is exposed the electronics constituting a Gamma chip that we find in the TCON card of a TFT LCD TV as the reference AS15 and AS19. Here is detailed the difference between a classic gamma chip and those which are known as programmable. For the clarity of the presentation are recalled some basic principles in electronics as the voltage divider and operational amplifiers (opamp) especially in voltage follower configuration.

Hi! This was a great video exlpaining almost everything in detail. Except one point which I ve been searching for a long time. How is the pixel intensity of 8 bit (256 values) being arranged by 10 gamma voltage? Is there another extra DAC in between Gamma output and the TFT source? What is the algoritm, circuit behing that?

Yes, I’m asking this to myself too. Is a partial gamma correction sufficient to maintain properties of the lcd cell ? Or are programmable chips more efficient / complete giving a better quality and more durable screen ?
