Karl X I like the open minded way you approached this. I like what they're doing, I think they're taking the soul of the car and it's beauty and making it modern and eco friendly. I think you can get the best of both worlds here, true classic cars that look so sleek and elegant without having to worry about adding to the damage to the environment. It is true that you don't get the same raw power feel of having an engine roaring from under you but it's about perspective and what people want from a car.

@@Hypnopotimus27 I believe the young and upcoming generation of car lovers will be doing a LOT of EV conversions. It's what they are brought up with , and what they will know. They'll be pulling these belching V8's out and dropping in the clean energy powerhouses. It'll be THEIR time. I'd love to get involved with these EV conversions, because it will be the future, and it could be profitable, irrespective of how my soul always yearns for ICE's. The cost will need to come down a LOT first. If anyone in NorCal is interested, I'd love to be a part of it.

Add good speakers and a large vibrator (like those in phones and game controllers but much bigger) to the electrical engine, then let these emmitt the engine sound and vibrations using a computer and so on. For the smoke maybe use some scene-smoke making equipment or if that is not eco friendly enough boil water and send out steam through the exhaust pipes. The right smell can be more tricky but maybe something eco friendly can be mixed into the steam liquid to arrange that.

Dodge is adding air baffles to make a real “engine noise.” 😂 When you take the engine out, you can clean it, oil it and put it in your house like a work of art. So you still have the engine and the car.

John B I'm in Qld and there's a bloke in Brissie who does it, and he and others had displays at a recent electric car convention here I went to.....they were pretty cool! But there definitely are others around the country...just Google it.

@@ecurb10 thanks for the info Bruce. I'll see if I can find any on the net. My concern is that the NSW gov won't allow these conversions as they are a lot stricter than Qld. Plus, they wouldn't get a piece of the pie anymore through petrol prices so even more reason they would oppose people driving concerted EVs. If there no money for them, why allow it right..

Yeah conversions don't hold value very well because battery technology is improving so rapidly. A major portion of the cost is the batteries, and 5 years from now you'll be able to get much more battery for the same price.

How much does it cost to get someone to do it for you? 10-15 k merely buys you the parts

It all depends on how much battery you want to run or fit in your vehicle. More batteries = more range.

If they're using Tesla batteries in the same configuration it would be the same. Model 3 goes about 220 miles on a single full charge.

Matt Pope base model 3 is 220 miles, mid range is 265 and long range is 310 miles of range. Pretty conservative too, you will get around 300 miles at 70mph.

Making classic cars electric should be illegal, Once you remove its original engine its not a classic anymore and alot of the fun with a classic car is the sound and smell from a big old engine

They were able to take advantage of some liquidations to buy large volumes of components for their electrical conversions. Atomic Reverend Alexander that's the purpose of the gas tax. To discourage people from buying gas, and encourage use of EVs or other forms of transportation like walking, cycling and public transit. Also to encourage people to live closer to work. It encourages developers to build denser.

CH1PSET I was more thinking out loud,. I know what Governor Moonbeam's thoughts are for doing this. i drive a 460ci 1973 Lincoln Continental (and have off and on for 20 years because it has been way more reliable then any newer car I have owned as long as I keep up on the maintenance). Californias ultra high gas prices effect me worse then most people but even with my terrible fuel mileage< my car is still about .35¢ a mile to drive which is still cheap considering. My reason for my statement is, if I took a older car and electified it, I wouldn't be paying my share of road taxes, cars like the Tesla (for example) get charged a higher registration fee because they don't spend money on fuel so they don't contribute to road repairs, somebody in a gas car pays through registration and in fuel taxes... You could skate through a loop hole and if it was solar powered you sort of abuse the system. A classic gas car has a low registration (my lincoln is $115- this year which for California is cheap), my diesel work truck (that I have to have for my job) is a 1 ton and cost $480- Realistically I won't ever make an electric car and at 40 years old I have thought about buying a later model full-size sedan or SUV that gets better mileage that is paidoff that has already incurred most of its depreciation since registration fees are charged off of the value of the car. Honestly I just need to do what every friend I had growing up did and move out of tree hugging, lberal stronghold that over taxes for everything, including, gas and registration. But that is a conversation on politics and that can lead to arguments....

Don't know about this conversions but on a Tesla, eat and cold have very little effect on range has their batteries are climate controlled and all the electronics of the car, screens, cabine lights, cameras, etc have ZERO effect on the car range, even AC has little impact, all because of regenerative braking and also because the electronics on a Tesla are very efficient and don't need much power.
