At the time of this video, the National Weather Service confirmed 19 and counting EF0-EF1 tornadoes had touched down in the Chicago area the evening of July 15. Our home was sandwiched between two of them! The sound of the storms barreling into the area was deafening and scary. When the tornado sirens went off, we retreated to the basement.
Since the storms happened at night, I had no idea what the garden would look like and I feared the worst. At least the homes in our neighborhood were standing. At 3am, we woke from a troubled sleep to the loud hum of wood chippers. City workers were clearing the streets of downed trees.
For all the destruction around us, I'm surprised and quite shocked that the garden stood up to 80mph winds.
This is what it looked like the next morning...
Hi there! My name is Heather and I garden in zone 5B, recently changed to 6a, in the southwest suburbs of Chicago on a small residential lot. My garden lives a whole lot larger than it is and I love sharing tips and tricks, as well as plenty of mistakes, with others who love to play in the dirt.
