Garfield was originally raised by his mother in an Italian restaurant. The love for lasagna sprouted from the owner feeding it to the cats every once in awhile. that’s also how he met John, so it kind of annoys me that they would get rid of that. Just makes his backstory more confusing.

I knew people were gonna make “the movie” jokes

The Tom Cruise joke could work by adding a sequence of Garfield failing the stunt repeatedly with phsyical comedy and then with the snarky remark like “I hope the insurance covers it” or “Next time Odie will be the stunt double” as the punchline. It could even be a blooper of Odie with a Garfield custome nailing the stunt in slow-mo or something

I have no idea why it took them THIS long to make an animated Garfield movie knowing it's simplistic concept but here we are... 10 years too late, to be precise.

I had so many Garfield comic books and would watch the Halloween special every year. Now he is Chris Pratt. The years start comin' and they don't stop comin'.

I love “The Movie”. Such a good adaptation of “Movie” and makes its own creative twists the classic “Movie” formula

The fact it took us this long to get a full length fully animated Garfield movie (not counting those direct to dvd movies) is insane. Garfield is a character who is made for a cgi animated movie. The movie was good. To me anyway

Everything about plot and stuff aside, I really love how Garfield is modeled in 3D. Especially his baby form. It reminds me of Om Nom from the Cut the Rope games for some reason, and he just looks so fluffy.

Another Jon Arbuckle fan? YOU ARE ONE OF US. Jon Arbuckle is the goat.

Even if it was 8 years late, this movie was great. The Animation was great. I don’t care what people say, I laughed, I cried, it moved me Awesomemay.

If Mark Dindal decides to do a sequel, then he should focus on Jon's personal career as a cartoonist with no social skills and how Garfield and Ode have affected his career and how Vic and the mother have boosted it to heights with some shortened modern adaption of Garfield on the Town.

Funny thing, this video sums up pretty every thought I had on the movie. Bizarrely except for Odie because he only adds to how much Garfield was screwed up with how HE actually abuses Garfield more than he does to HIM.

Awesomemay is the type of guy to say “wowza!” whenever he sees an animated movie.

Fun fact: this movie was directed by mark dindal, who directed chicken little, the emperor’s new groove and the cancelled dreamworks movie me and my shadow

One idea I like more about the movie is that if Vic was actually a bad father and Garfield finds out his real family is with Jon and Odie, who are the ones that actually care for him. I know it’s corny but i feel like it would be a far more emotionally rewarding, also giving Jon more time to be a father figure

I liked the Garfield comic stuff at the beginning with Jon, I grew up with animated Garf media, but the heist stuff is an uninteresting slog. They softened him up. Also, this is not a movie for people who love ironic Garfielf parodies, or eldritch horror Gorefield, lol.

A better plot for the movie, even if it's generic, might've been like a "lost pet" story, where Garfield and Odie get lost, and the movie cuts between Garfield and Odie trying to find home, and John trying to find them. You could even keep in the Garfield's dad stuff in this type of story, where they meet him on the way to find home and you could have some emotional scenes where we learn how they got separated and how they learned to cope with it. The villain of the story could just be a comedically exagerated animal catcher, with a personality similar to the Verminator from Over the Hedge. I agree with what a lot of people say when they say Garfield's primary character trait is his laziness, so making him go on an action adventure doesn't make a lot of sense for him.

I think the best possible Garfield movie would have focused more on Jon than Garfield. He's actually an interesting character on his own.

The reason Garfield’s dad left baby Garfield stay with John is because Garfield’s dad didn’t live in a proper home and he wanted Garfield to live in a good household but idk maybe that’s just me😭

hear me out… What if they got Frank Welker back to voice Garfield in this movie, and for Garfield’s father? They bring back Bill Murray to voice him.

man we're finally watching the pinnacle of movies, THE movie!

I think the movie should have started off right at the part where the tragic backstory happens as Garfield and Jon meet each other at the restaurant with the song "That's Amore", and the moment where Jon decided to adopt him just like when the teaser trailer showed us. As the introduction ends, the slide suddenly moves up with an all grown-up Garfield saying, "And that's how I adopted Jon." I think it would have been a lot better than the other scene where Garfield ordered pizza.

I watched it premiere day with my girlfriend. Garfy boy is a long running joke in my life for some forsaken reason. I was extremely disappointed and forgot everything an hour later

'Garfield on the Town' made me feel more emotion from, Garf getting forced out of his comfort zone and bonding with one of his parental figures, than this did. However, I may be a little a lottle biased

Even though I quite enjoyed this movie,I can see why you and most didn't.I felt the movie was very fun and cute,I found the jokes funny,the characters were charming(Jinx was a personal highlight for me,although I'm worried what the internet will do to her.),I loved some of the more heartfelt moments,and honestly,I felt Chris Pratt's performance as Garfield was surprisingly not half-bad and felt a lot more like he was playing a cartoon character than Mario which I felt he putted barely enough emotion,which I know is kind of ironic.His performance honestly made me find Garfield very adorable and loveable to me,especially with how huggable he looks in this movie. One thing we can agree on is that the product placement in this movie was incredibly overwhelming and unnecessary,I mean, who watched a movie about Garfield and suddenly wants to watch Shark Tank or buy a roborock roomba? Don't worry about being too negative,I enjoyed your review. One complaint I do have is that they made Odie a bit too smart despite him supposed to be the dumb one,that's probably part of the joke but having him do the calculations of the amounts of milk and tying Garfield and Vic to a tree so they can make amends might be pushing it just a little.(Garfield & Friends Garfield is still best Garfield.)

As a child who's divorced father was known for stalking when he was with my mom and who was warned yes maybe when you're an adult he will find you again, ...this movie was not the vibe I was wanting in a Garfield movie

The dad backstory almost made me cry. No movie has down that. (Up has an exception because I watch it when I was very little and didn’t understand it.)

The impression this film gave me was that they hired several businessmen to write the most commercial and saleable story for the whole family (an illumination level thing) and then called professional screenwriters who were fans of Garfield to write the scenes and jokes based on this story

Garfield is such a mundane series. Not much extreme really happens, so something extreme happening in the movie just doesn't match with what the series was doing.

Moral of the story:John Arbuckle is a great guy and Garfield 2004 is the best film of all time.

I noticed that they made Garfield's eyes brown instead of blue like in the original his mother and him share the same eye color which made him even closer to her but we only saw them when he did a cute face on purpose.

I don't know why animated movies keep using Chris Pratt, he worked as Mario and Emmet pretty well but Garfield is the opposite personality of those two. I don't think Chris Pratt is a bad voice actor but he doesn't have as much voice acting range as all these big movie producers think he has.

Why do so many producers and actors go "Well, we don't have much info for this movie" while ignoring the decades of lore that was built up with books, comics, other movies, and tv shows. They keep trying to reinvent the wheel.

I'm really confused at how this is the movie we got from Garf. They try to establish Garfield being a cinema thing again and they do it with an action movie? That feels like it should be the sequel of the movie series if anything! Why start with THIS? I wish they did a sort of slice of life/anthology movie where it's just a bunch of random stories with Garfield Odie and Jon, different locales and characters for each story lol it would be like a really true adaptation from comic to the big screen. IT MAKES THE MOST SENSE HOW COULD YOU NOT DO IT Ngl though yeah this movie is very flawed but if they had just rewrote the first half to fix what a horrid job they did at establishing the characters it wouldn't be the best movie we could get but I think it would have been decent. I did enjoy the second half of the movie.

I can give the Chris Pratt thing a pass because the reason Garfield’s voice sounded like that in those old cartoons was because a loud energetic guy wouldn’t have gone along with the simplistic low budget, almost surreal vibe that those videos gave off. But now in the modern age where everything’s gotta be vibrant to stop you from losing attention for one second and realizing that the movie you’re watching isn’t that good, it’s hard to find someone who specializes in that kind of voice. But if I had to find a voice actor, I would’ve chose jack stauber because literally all of his videos and songs and shorts are made with the intent to sound like an old vhs video so he’d be perfect for the job.

Just because a franchise is no longer in it’s prime and is a little less good than it once was, doesn’t always mean that it isn’t good.

I literally go to the cinema to watch it and i was THE ONLY ONE THERE **i didn't think it was this late that bad** if this was release 8 years ago this would be printing money, I can see what they are going with the marketing, the billboard, etc.
