It's entirely possible that a large chunk of metal wpuld be just as apatizing to it as a bone is to a dog. And likely for the same reasons too. A creature that size likely isn't using calcium for bones. More likely some kind of organic iron polymer. Which means a giant chuck of steal falling from the sky would be very attractive to a giant death worm living in an environment were iron in such quantities is rare. Would also explain why iron deposits always form in small nuggets close to the surface. It's literally just leviathan shit.

There's a huge problem with this frankly-massive creature casually leaping out of the water to chomp on a ship. Assuming it could actually DO that - remember the sort of energy a whale needs to do a major breach of the ocean's surface - this massive creature should be causing a tidalwave that would instantly destroy or scatter (or both) any bases you have, including your lifepod, followed by overwhelming the islands in sheer force. The first time I got a look at this, I was like "Ew, no. That's a *terrible* idea. I hope that's not canon.", and my position is unchanging on that matter. Fortunately, it's just a mod, and I'm sorry, but it's not a great idea.
