@@MattSears That's excellent news! I'm hoping that you come back to it too.I'm intrigued about these ideas you have to expand on the concept.I can't wait to see what unclean horrors you will choose to unleash upon your innocent and mortal audience! ✨🐙🌙
Holy moly. Stumbled about The Sky when looking for cosmic horror music, and binged all your pieces out so far today. Whoever does your effects is incredible, and I hope that thing hits a higher view count than The Sky, because wow. I'm not actually someone who actively goes into the cosmic horror genre, but I think you're getting me hooked.
Thank you, and thanks for checking out all my other stuff too! I do all the visual effects so thank you AGAIN! hahaha. I must admit i'm quite new to the cosmic horror genre too, but i feel the same way. I've really enjoyed it. It's great from a filmmakers perspective because you get to play around with some really cool visuals and experiment a lot. I'm guessing you've seen Annihilation, that's what inspired the music in The Sky, the soundtrack to that is amazing. Really appreciate you taking the time to check out my work!
@@MattSears That totally makes sense, the Annihilation connection to the music! Really, you've got some mad slam dunks in my opinion. I actually ended up sending your channel to a friend, and we ended up talking about your work for several hours. You've hit some great subjects that we love, from the creatures (I Heard It Too, and Charlie Boy both featured aesthetics, angles, subjects and creatures we're fond of, but rarely see them put to proper use, but you do), to the sheer execution. And we both had a good cry at Doodlebug. We're both American, so it's also neat seeing just that hair of a cultural difference in your storytelling and execution. In Charlie Boy, you made such great use of those narrow halls, for example. You don't see many narrow halls here, except in the very oldest of houses in the northeast of the country, and your work capitalized on how unnerving it can be. All this to say: We are like... ridiculously excited to see The Gate when it does come out, and thank you for sharing these works on RU-vid for us to watch!
@@nachgeben Thank you so much! Not a lot of people watch Doodlebug so i'm really happy to hear you watched that. It has a very special place in my heart, along with Charlie Boy. Truly grateful for the kind words and to hear that you're a fan! I actually made The Gate for a film competition. So there's no feature for it in the works at the moment i'm sorry to say. BUT we are writing something for The Sky. So hoping to get that made next year. Thank you again, really makes a big difference when you get such great response to something you've put your heart into.
@@MattSears annihilation is one of my favorite films and I recognized the effect you used in the sky out past the storm. Annihilation is such an inspiring film in so many ways
@@MattSears Hey dude what software do you use to even make these effects I always wondered that - I prob won't be nearly as awesome as you making stuff but I always wanted to try because all my music videos for my rap group I'm in is all the same lol.
You did amazing for this trailer. Honestly I hope this becomes a reality because for cosmic horror, this seems and looks completely fresh especially for the big screen. Most movie studios especially horror cannot pull something like this off. I see alot of potential with The Gate as a movie.
@@MattSears honestly, if you guys put out less projects and focused on an indie film that we'd have to rent on RU-vid, I feel like you could pull it off. I would definitely rent this movie to watch it.
Incredibly resonant - this damn thing gives me chills. This needs to be made, in whichever format you manage - be it short or feature length. There is not nearly enough quality cosmic horror out there on film.
Haha thank you!! Just had a look at your channel and subscribed. Some great stuff on there. Do you have a link to your submission, I couldnt see it. Only the breakdown.
This is how you do a movie concept. Viewers are enticed, wanting more, on the edge of their seats. Truly an amazing work for an original idea (which Hollywood lacks nowadays).
This looked fantastic, Matt! Very ambitious and well-executed. Here is to hoping that this will one day blossom into a full-on feature, your excellent abilities and instincts from past projects speak for themselves.
If only all films took note of this, not only did it just give you a taste it made you want more and gave nothing away. And as far as horror goes it seems like you have a chance to put it back on the right track, "the oldest fear is fear of the unknown"
Thank you so much man! It was made for the Artgrid Edit Challenge, so there's no film dropping soon, sorry to disappoint :( - It's had such a great response though so i'm definitely thinking of creating something else based on this!
Sorry about that JD, hate disappointing everyone at the moment. As this is getting more popular now i'm hoping an opportunity can present itself. If not i'll be working on a short based on this soon.
You are an amazing producer, and I also noticed how the sky was raising. You could make a movie or movies that ties back to your “the sky” piece. A pretty great one too. The coolest take on cosmic horror I’ve seen so far forreal.
@@MattSears Awesome work, Matt! The fact that it made me think that it's a trailer to an upcoming Scifi Horror Film means it's THAT GOOD!!! KUDOS!!! I still believe we humans ALWAYS get everyone into trouble by meddling in things they have no business in. Like that "long buried gate" in Mars. Haha
This is pristine, eldritch, non-Euclidean genius... This needs to be a movie, quick, fast, and in a hurry. So tired of the endless slate of of "cosmic horror" letdowns each year, that completely miss the scale and existential dread associated with the genre. You didn't- this was a brilliant minute and a half.
This would be such a suspensful and trippy film to take play on the emotions, judging by the way it appears in this trailer I would LOVE to watch this full length at 2-2.5 hours!
@@luine8984 Hahaha yeah! If someone takes the time to watch and leaves a nice comment, the least I can do is reply. Glad you wanted to see more! I'm working on a short at the moment, but will try and talk to some people about more.
@@MattSears I really hope you get a deal for this soon! The storyline is so interesting! But for now, best of luck for the upcoming short, I’ll be sure to watch it 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
So this isn't a real movie? Man this looked soooo good and there I was left with false hope. 1st Daft Punk and now this? This has been a terrible day. Please make this happen
Oh no! I'm so sorry haha. Not at the moment I hate to say, atm its just a concept trailer. BUT I do really REALLY want to make this. So will we working on making that happen.
Very well put together! I thoroughly enjoyed it, it's cohesive and thrilling and makes me, as others already state it, wish for the existence of a real movie (at least in an advanced post-production phase) :)
Thank you so much. I know, it's a bit of a tease and i'm sorry to disappoint. Working on a couple of new project at the moment though which i'm really excited about. So can't wait to show you those. Also doing a BTS of The Gate which might be a small consolation if you are interested in how it's made.
I am so sad that this is not made yet. I am reading the comments and I realized that you are creating these, not just sharing them. My advice is make it clear its you and your team.. I had no idea I was supporting the creator of this masterpiece by subscribing to you cuz I didnt look at your main page until now, I thought you were like another Dust channel. I would say by Matt Sears in the title, it might seem like too much but its not 😊 the way you title them now it seems like you are sharing them, not the creator. Regardless thank you for your hard work and for following your inspirations. You are very talented and I hope deeply for your success!!!
Thanks Cas! Sorry to disappoint with just a teaser, but glad you enjoyed it anyway. I'm writing some more cosmic horror atm, so hopefully that can satisfy you soon! Yeah, this is all just my work. Usually i'll add a title at the start, but as i was limited to 60seconds I decided to lose my credit at the start haha. Thank you for your support! Hopefully can bring you some new films soon.
@MattSears awesome! I am sure they will satisfy my craving, thanks for the info! Hey maybe The Gate will be your first big film. We would so fund that lol Best of luck with all future endeavours!
At the moment it's just a trailer, with no plans to produce anything further. But, i'd absolutely love to. Unfortunately I don't think it's the kind of thing I could do on a small budget, otherwise i'd be all over it. But I am thinking of ways that I could tell this story on a smaller scale.
Thank you so much. I don't even know how much time i spent haha, but I was working from when the competition was announced until the day of the submission. Last week alone I probably put in around 30 hours, all outside of work. Really happy with the result though so it's been worth all the hard work! Thank you for checking it out and your kind words!
Cheers man! It was actually made for a competition. The challenge was to make a movie trailer using Artgrid Stock and Artlist music and this is my entry. So really sorry to say there isn't a feature coming :(
DUDE. This short film and The Sky are legit tight. I usually don't get into too much sci-fi shorts, but wow, I love this intriguing story. And the effects are amazing. I would definitely watch a full feature film about this story.
Thank you Mars! It was actually made specially for the Artgrid Edit challenge, so there's no full film planned as yet. But it's gone down really well so would love to develop it further.
Holy fuck - i got chills from that I found this video on my Subscriptions tab and was wondering what this channel was, then I remembered The Sky, and oh. my god. Your editing skills are *incredible*. Holy shit.
it's been 4 years since I've been hype like that for a Locraftian movie...I've show it to some friends before realizing that is jus a short. Oh the terrible dread....I'm half joking you've done such an amazing work that I'm actually mad that no one have give you a budget for making this in a movie. I hope a day you come for you (and us) :)
