On this channel, I have reviewed a lot of different air conditioners including window AC units but none of them have taken me by surprise as much as the GE Profile Clearview AC. In fact, I would say the GE Profile Clearview is the best window AC you can buy right now! The unit that I have in the video is the Clearview 6100 BTU unit however it's also available in 8300 BTU. Not only does it cool down a room quickly and efficiently but it's also one of the quietest window air conditioners on the market. If you want to see this GE profile air conditioner against other air conditioners such as the frigidaire window air conditioner let me know in the comments!

Update: I got to use the AC since I installed it. It works great and is very quite. The model is perfect for my application. Thanks for the video review. It convinced me to buy the 8300 BTU model. I mounted it in a replacement window that has a deep sill because my outside walls are on 6 inch studs. Because of this I added a small piece of 2x3 inch wood block in addition to the included mounting supports for extra support. It’s not warm enough to use the AC yet but it’s convenient to be able to open the window to enjoy the spring air while the AC is in the window. The unit is plugged in but not turned on. During the first night I noticed a green blinking light behind the grill below the control panel. The documentation doesn’t say what this is. I gave a call to GE support and they told me that this is the unit doing self diagnosis and is normal. It should have been noted in the manual to keep one from wasting 30 minutes contacting GE support. I couldn’t get it to connect to WiFi until the next day. I don’t know if it’s related to the diagnosis it was doing, but the WiFi light would not come on when I pressed the button. Every thing is working now. The WiFi light is on and connected to my network and the diagnosis light is out. It’s very quiet even on cool mode and high fan. Being quiet was an important feature since it’s in my bedroom. I’m looking forward to seeing how it works in the heat of the summer.

this is honestly something essential we need this time of year, grandma almost suffered a heat stroke last year with temperatures above the 90s almost 105 or 107 I think and my friends mom even died from heat stroke last year, if they had this, it would've prevented alot of suffering, much love to you for having a wide spectrum of products not just apple or Samsungs latest

I’m sorry that happened to your grandma and your friends mom. That’s really sad and unfortunate.. I don’t think people realize how important these window units are even if you have a good central unit. Sometimes units go out and it’s always good to have a backup. Plus it can save money on electric bills by choosing to cool one room a much lower temp vs the entire house.

@@OT4Tech thank you for the kind words, you're right you don't realize how much you need it until its too late. and at that point it was really hard to find one at a solid price, amazon was shipping 3 weeks out, and right now we have a window one for grandma's room as the weather approaches, we have no worries. had I seen this one first, I'd probably go for this one but our uncle gifted us one for grandma. definitely was a close call! grateful each day for this.

I just set up my unit in my vertical opening window and I LOVE IT. I also own both models. I regret that I bought the GE. I like the Midea Ushape 12,000 BTU. I bought the Midea at Costco when it was on sale. It is a very nice unit. I installed the GE but I want to return to the manufacture right away. I also watched all the RU-vid about about both models. Many people said they like the GE. I was thinking trying the GE. I regret I bought it. If I can go back in time, I will buy another Midea. It is very quiet. Many people like the Midea. The GE is not quiet as many people said. Yes, it is quiet but you have to select the mode that does not give much nice cold air. The reason the ac is giving cold air is because the compressor. When the compressor works, it give cold air but it is also very noisy. So, by selecting "quiet mode' on GE, you get cold air but very minimal. That is because the compressor shut down or run slow, it is not noisy. If you want cold air, it is noisy as other ac and vibration as well. The midea is different. They somehow design their compressor not very noisy but still giving cold air. If I have to buy another ac, Midea U-shape 12,000 BTU is the best. The only thing I complain about the Midea is its remote control. If you can live without the remote, the ac is a great unit to buy. The remote does not receive the command or not very sensitive. For example, you hit cool, it either not do anything to the unit or it change to something else. You can just approach the unit to turn to your desire setting on the unit.

Very helpful video. I hoped you could do a comparison this GE clearview and the Midea U. I like that the GE sits over the sill. You won't need a support out the window. The Midea does its split across the top. I think there's an AC Support bracket inside its box. You pull the window down between its split. I have a 1951 brick and block home, and my wall thickness is 13.5", meaning this is the only line of saddle ACs that accommodates my architecture. But like virtually all window ACs they assume you have only small windows, typically 36" (duh), though this one will grudgingly allow installation into 40" wide windows. My windows are 41.5". Since this is an arbitrary limitation, you'd think the companies would spend the extra fifty cents to bring in more customers. Like everyone in this situation, I'll probably just cram a block in there to fix this oversight. As far as the supposed advantage of being able to operate the window, when the sash is raised on installation, it's a struggle to keep nature out - stinkbugs, ladybugs, spiders - and when you do get the foam barriers in place I can't see anyone disturbing them. If you are a neatnik or have loads of money, perhaps you could have a new, shorter sash fabricated by your window manufacturer. This way the bugs would stay out, the sash lock would still work, and it wouldn't be ugly. You could then truly open the window to let in the pollen in the springtime.

There are reports that the water that collects at the bottom of the condenser (outside) housing is purposeful so that it splashes onto the condenser coil, cooling it for better efficiency. And with that, you can hear the splashing, which some say is loud and annoying. In addition, the standing water can be a breeding environment for mosquitos. What have you heard, or GE said regarding this? Thanks.

Just an inverted Midea U. The downside here is you have to clear your window sill first then the panel comes in front of that. I wish that the screws that you take out to adjust the depth, were not on the outside of the window, but in the inside of the window! Making it more Theft proof! Most of the weight is sitting right on that vinyl/plastic piece of window seal! Now if you have a wood or metal, not so bad. I would probably get some type of like a 2 x 4 paint it to match the window seal get the right height and slide it between that little space so it has more area to sit on rather than a small little piece of vinyl, calling the entire weight of the center of that unit.!! I do like the fact that where the louvers are that blow, the air, cool air back into the room that there’s a space between them and the actual window, allowing the air to go up or straight out and not up behind your blinds or your curtains you may have! With the old fashion, regular air conditioners, these little louver placements are so close to the window that you can’t even bring your window shade down, without having the air blowing behind the actual window, shade or curtain.😊 I’m going to decide between the upside down (n.), which is basically what this is and the other type of ( U )shape where you slide the window down into the unit.😊 👍👍👍 I do not want to use Wi-Fi and app! I don’t have a Wi-Fi set up and I don’t download apps! I just want the air conditioner with all of the remote control and manual settings👍👍👍 I can open it up and clean it out every other day. I don’t need to be alerted about a filter clean or a timer shut off, etc.. I like to manage it on my own not have other issues trying to manage my unit.😮😊

You're the only other comment so far, as I read down through them, that noticed the window sill issue. Yeah, there is a seal there that's a double lip, probably one inch height creating that channel where he placed the black foam. I thought, oooo this thing weighs 70lbs, better put a shim there, like some sort of wood that meets or slightly exceeds that lip edge so the AC weight doesn't damage it. I'm looking at the Midea too. There's also a Danby brand U shape Window AC that I'm looking at. Not sure what to get. The standard Window AC's are often no more than 38 to 40 pounds for a 6000 BTU. I don't need a window AC to fully cool a room. It just needs to supplement the central air that is doing most of the cooling. Im not sure what to get for this purpose. I like these U shape AC's that let you close that window over most of the unit for sound reduction and it keeps bugs and everything else out. I guess with a Window unit, put a screen on the unit itself? Perhaps put a shade over the AC unit in the deep depths of Summer? Let's just bring back Winter.

Then I can still slide the window up to the 2x2 or open it for ventilation. Obviously this won't work for everyone and I can get away with plywood over the opening since we always have blinds down anyway and don't need the visibility.

lol that was fast. Anyways, looked up the CEER of the GE Profile Clearview. It's spec'd at 11.4. So in operation, 6100BTU/11.4 = 535W. The Midea is spec'd at 15. 8000BTU/15=533W. In other words, the Midea is significantly more efficient. It's also a bastard to fully clean, but then again since you didn't fully clean this unit either, I guess we ain't talking about that.

There is a little pump that automatically pumps any condensation that accumulates to the outside where it helps cool the exterior heat exchanger.

I like the simplicity of the GE profile over the Midea. But, there are pros and cons on both. If you have a low window, Midea is a better option. In my case, I have two reasons why I'm buying the Midea over GE. I have a low window. There's a huge price difference. Costco Midea inverter 12,000 BTU 379.00 Home Depot and Amazon GE inverter 12,000 BTU 579.00 Costco Midea inverter 8,000 BTU 319.00 Home Depot and Amazon GE none inverter 6,000 BTU 379.00😊

So I bought this air conditioner and I am very disappointed to be honest. For a whopping price of 480$ the advertised “quiet” is not quiet at all. I’ll admit day 1 and 2 it was kinda quiet but then it progressively got louder and louder. Perhaps I have a faulty system, or it just sucks lol. It cools your room down exceptionally well. But I bought this near 500$ unit for exceptional cooling and for peace and quiet. Of course I didn’t expect it to be quiet quiet but it’s louder then my other air conditioner and this one is lower btu/square feet. Idk

@oldtc3615 Год назад
@@TheYankmchain The GE has a 11.4 CEER rating the same as my cheap $120 LG unit and the Midea has a much more efficient rating of 15. The GE usus old tech compressor that turns off or on and runs at the 60 hz hum that everybody knows, just packaged in a new shape. The Midea uses inverter technology. This allows it to run the compressor at only speeds required for demand and it starts slowly so you don't even notice it kick on or off. Much of the time you only can hear the wind and not the compressor even when the compressor is running. The water also can't drain out automatically of the GE so it shuts off. Hardly nobody makes them that way for that reason, water can't flow uphill. I wonder how long it will take until dirt build up will cause that sensor to fail? Being able to open the window is also not much of a feature because they are not mentioning that between the upper and lower window pains you need that to be sealed with foam to stop air leakage and bugs out. Yeah you take take the foam out and put it back in to operate the window but it's a hassle. The Midea tech wise is much more advanced and the GE just has a gimmick shape with drainage flaws and no doubt a high profit piece for GE.

It weighs a good 70 pounds. Be careful what kind of window you put this massive thing in. This video should have shown exactly how this sits. I see a vinyl(?) window lip where he placed the black foam. Don't you require a shim to take the weight off of that window sill lip??? I do like the design. It's so much more safe and stable once it's in place. It's not like it's going to slip off and fall.

@@OT4Tech Yes, because people like that it looks like a face, but it's wrong. The ground is meant to be at the top. If a plug comes loose and a piece of conductive material falls onto the exposed prongs, the ground will deflect the material one way or the other, grounding out the issue. If the live and neutral are at the top and conductive debris falls, it completes the circuit and can cause fires. Not sure why people always think the "Face," orientation is correct.
