In this video, I review my recommendations for what gear to use when shooting film. This hopefully helps those who want to start shooting film but want to know more about the gear they need.
Currently shooting Canon FTb for the fully mechanical experience, Canon EOS 3 to make use of my EF L series lenses and a Mamiya M645 for medium format. Covers most bases for me.
Not including all the 110 and 35mm point and shoot cameras a had before digital was a thing, I'm recently am running my first rolls of film through my dad's late 50's Exakta VXiia and his Pentex Spotmatic, similar to yours.
I had a Pentax MG in the 80,s and loved using it. It lived in my motorcycle tank bag and was a joy to use. Unfortunately I lost it in a flood and gave up film photography for the next 30 years. Fast forward to last year and I acquired a 65 Pentax SP Spotmatic, I love it, it’s brought film photography back into my life, I just recently bought a 74 Spotmatic SP F, I now have two body’s to go with my Takumar lenses, 28, 50, 55, 135, and 300. Mostly shooting Ilford HP5 and Kodak gold 200. I feel like a young man again, and Pentax is back in my life!

Je faisais beaucoup de noir et blanc, que je développais moi-même, ayant acquis un agrandisseur, et tout ce qui va avec jusqu'à la photo finale. j'ai eu fait aussi du négatif couleur et de temps en temps de la diapositive. pour le noir et blanc, je me suis servi d'une pellicule T MAX 3200, j'ai fermé d'un diaphragme, et j'ai modifié le traitement, en le laissant un peu plus dans le révélateur, mes photos étaient très bien, c'était pour une fête de bateaux 3 mâts, les autres avec leurs 400 1000 ou autre I S O, avec un gros projecteur, j'étais au 1 / 1 2 5 e m e à F 5 , 6, et à l'intérieur de la fête au café j'étais au 2 5 0 e m e , ma photo avait beaucoup de grain, mais encore lisible. The nice compromise between choosing an retro, film SLR camera and a simple point and shoot is buying something like canon eos300 that has full auto mode that makes shooting with it as simple as with a point and shoot, but also gives you a way to just wokr your way thru all the manual thing with a camera that's familiar to you. It''s not as fun to use as an old mechanical camera, but it saves you a lot of money and frustration (and the camera itself ain't that expensive). Later you can switch to full manual retro thing for the full feel of film photograhy!
agreed!!! I got a canon eos630 and its compatible with all my EF glass that i bought for my digital camera. Usually shoot it in full manual, but on days that i just wanna switch off and shoot aimlessly, i leave it on aperture priority
