Really love that y'all are working to create unbiased reviews! I think it would be cool to have a little segment though with 'Briones Thoughts' not sure it's needed for every video/every paddle, but it could be cool cuz I definitely enjoy hearing the experience of different people and hearing where the Jordan's agree/disagree on the paddle and their preferences would be awesome.
In a recent video you said the Six Zero Ruby was your favorite paddle. How does this compare? I have a DBD and love it. Ruby is arriving soon. Wondering if it's worth having a GB in the quiver-and if so, whether the Power or Control version would be better (given that I love how the DBD plays).
The power is literally all power. It’s great to have in the bag when you want to power through people and win fast hands battles. The control is closer to the DBD. But again the feel of these gearbox’s are like no other. You’d have to hit one to know what I mean.
I can't agree with the sweet spot claimed here. John Kew's twist weight measurements show 5.14 and 5.22 for the pro power elongated - which is low. Add these tight sweet spots to the high swing weights - and these are not for beginners or certain rec players. If you can hit the sweet spot consistently and afford the price - by all means. The only gearbox John has in his database with a twist weight over 6 is the G2 Quad. The average twist weight is 6.2 and the quad squeaks out a 6.23.
For control, the Luxx. For all around with power spin control, etc, I’d recommend this: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-JIWTY-tA5WU.htmlsi=HcvqFwwvUBNycn8g
Two totally different paddles. If you want a power paddle, the gearbox takes the #1 spot. The Ruby is more of an all-court paddle that most players would love that has great control power and spin.
Been playing with the gearbox PPE for about a week since I finally received my shipment and I personally feel the sweet spot is extremely small and the paddle lacks power that was promised. For reference, I play with the Black Ace and I'm a 4.0 player. I've been watching Chris Haworth play and he plays with the PCE and generates crazy spin and power, I'm curious if it's a player issue or if it's a paddle issue. I've been tweaking around with lead tape as well, but maybe the paddle hasn't been broken in yet? Any feedback would be appreciated
Yes, what Jordan said. These paddles are very similar, not too different as the shapes are so close. I would also say that if you’re used to an elongated paddle already, then I would go with that.
I struggled with the same decision. I've been playing with a 6.0 Double Black Diamond and appreciated its shape and short-ish length. I am confident with the short and touch game. Very much so compared to an elongated shape. And I had primarily come from that shape. At this point, for my game, I like what the DBD offers compared to my play style. So with that i chose the fusion shape. Arriving today!
@@ritchiedioneda8137 my everyday paddle is 16.3 " so i went with elongated, and used briones affil link. thank you guys for your input cant wait to have it in my hands!
If you are one of the many who paid a premium for this paddle and got a dud. And Gearbox won't stand behind the warranty. Simply file a claim in your community small claims court to hold them accountable. Not sure what is worse their quality control or their customer service.
Thanks for another great review. What would you select as the best control paddle with top tier spin and largest sweet spot? I’m looking at 6zero dbd, Diadem edge 18k, Crbn 3x, and this Gearbox pro control, would love to hear your recommendation.
Those are all great, not sure about the Diadem. The DBD is always going to be a great one. The new gearbox control is great as well. I don’t think you can go wrong.
I can't find the material or spec different between power and control ? So the control is definitely feel more softer than power version ? I prefer a soft paddle feel when hitting base line stroke. Is this pro control has soft feel compared to gen 2 thermoformed paddle ? Thank you.
It’s way different. I would say the control version has as much power as some gen 2 paddles. The power version is one of the most powerful paddles on the market.
Add weight to the sides of the paddle starting from the throat of the paddle. I would start by adding a little first. For aggressiveness, the power is the one you want. Up to you on elongated and the fusion.
I have been using the pro power elongated since release. I like it quite a bit but I have noticed a reduction in hand speed compared to my vanguard power air. After getting comfortable with the paddle it is not really an issue and I still feel very fast. *This paddle is particularly unforgiving. If you have an off day with it you’re gonna have a bad time
Just like the review said, if you want something really control oriented that feels very “soft”, the control would be the one to get. If you want that pop and really want power on your volleys and counter attacks, then the power would be ideal.
UNFORTUNATELY, with the super limited availability and popularity of this paddle, our discount code BRIONESPB will not work with this paddle at this time. We're so sorry about this, as we just found this out after making this review. It’s still a great paddle at its retail price, and you can still purchase it clicking the link above. We hope to get this discount code figured out and working in the future. Either way, we really appreciate you watching, and we appreciate your support of our channel!
@@BrionesPickleball I think with the fusion just adding lead tape in the 4 and 8 clock position will match elongated in power plus more hand speed. Will try the fusion. Thanks!!!
@@johannacoyne776lol so then we are going to see a ton of paddles on the secondary market where people buy them and then don’t want to keep them if they don’t fit their game (and say they’ve only been used 4 hours 😂). So Gearbox doesn’t do codes or demos….I don’t care how hard these things hit…I’ll pass
Power version is poppier than the DBD. These are two totally different paddles. The way gearbox has designed it, it’s thinner and much more quiet than the DBD. Also the shapes are way different. I personally like how the DBD feels a little bit better, but the pop is unmatched on the new Gearbox Pro.
Does USAPA not cut the paddle open? There is a picture in the PickleballCentral review where it is cut open and this sucker is pumped with foam, not only on the sides but all in the middle. Somehow Gearbox got a foam paddle passed, wild! Just like racquetball, the game will get too fast for its own good
Great observation, I went to the pickleball central review and saw the foam. How can the Gearbox be legal and EVA paddles from other companies be illegal. People have said EVA paddles are to dangerous, given that this Gearbox paddle is within 1-2 mph of EVA paddles, shouldn't it be considered just as dangerous?
I like how Gearbox doesn't give buyers a code discount but still gives finders fee to reviewers...have seen this on 2 other RU-vid paddle reviewers....$275 with a discount was an incentive to buy but we will see if the Pickleball gods will allow these to be legal after the pros start using them and players start crying about the spin and mostly the speed...of course I ordered one though
@@BrionesPickleball I’m coming the tennis world and this whole delaminating paddles is new to me. From the comments, this paddle isn’t legal but I think it should be. My thinking is, if a delaminated paddle is an advantage Then paddles should be made pre-delaminated, if you know what I mean.
Two totally different paddles, different tech. Forza plays more similarity to the older Joolas, Ronbus, and the other thermoformed gen 2 paddles. This gearbox Pro is completely new technology and has a totally different feel. More spin, and also more power.
Will someone please explain to me why my Gearbox Power Pro Elongated has no power and eve less pop? I have never seen a paddle got such great reviews so I had to buy one and I am EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED with the paddle! What am I missing? I am a 5.0 player and I hit with a lot of top spin but my volleys had less pop than my Ronbus by far!!! Not happy at all with this paddle!!!
100% Not True. Maybe it is a quality control issue but my Power Pro had nothing behind it whatsoever and others are agreeing with me!!! @@BrionesPickleball
Then there are more than one defective paddle out there because people are agreeing with me! You got a good one because of your name. lol @@BrionesPickleball
It’s raw carbon fiber grit. Every single paddle on the market will get smooth eventually. I believe people buy paddles more for the performance, not for grit lasting the longest (in general).
From interviews I recently heard with Rafael Filipinni, the grit from this paddle is part of the face and HE stated, this texture/grit is part of the curing process and will not wear out. His words…not mine.
Please stop repeating the inaccurate statement that there's no polymer in the paddle. There has always been an expanding polymer in the gearbox SST core.
@BrionesPickleball it has a polymer core, it just isn't a honeycomb. They inject expanding polymer between the SST ribs. Polymer = plastic. So it is straightforwardly wrong to say there's no plastic in it.
