Galadriel is the most perfect character in the history of film and television. Here's how Amazon's The Rings of Power forged the one genius to rule them all. #ringsofpower #lordoftherings #galadriel #review #breakdown #videoessay
I whole heartedly believe Sauron was on his way to Valinor to turn himself in, then he was afflicted by Galadriel and just dragged along until he figured he'd save the elves and maybe she'd let him go, so he did and she tried to kill him, and the at that point he realized that if he went back, she'd follow and everyone in Valinor would have to suffer her for eternity and so he made the ultimate sacrifice and decided to become the Dark Lord to make her stay in exile. Sauron, the true hero of Middle Earth.
Rofl, was thinking the exact the same thing watching this. Since Halbrand's actions, or plan(???) doesn't make ANY sense throughout the season this is the explanation I prefer.
Whenever Arondir shot at the white orcs with his bow and said “this is payback for the transatlantic slave trade” it literally sent shivers down my spine. What a moment
The part where galadriel painted her face half white/half blue and screamed "they may take our lives, but they'll never take our freedom!" to inspire her troops gave me chills
And then in the end when Galadrial says to the troops "You have bleed with meeee, now pull out your tampons and bleeeed with meeeee.. again".. Teared me up like the weak white male I am.
You forgot to mention when Halbrand was saving her from the water, he dived down and was pulling an unconscious Galadriel to the surface but the the writers were like no this will lower her girl power levels so she miraculously wakes up from almost drowning, gets on the boat first somehow then helps him up to keep her superiority.
There's so many TV shows and movies nowadays that have the same holes in them like when the characters have world breaking abilities for no reason, or they don't have an ability again that they had once that saved the day but came about unexplained, characters forgetting that they said something in an earlier episode that contradicts what they say later. Or how unnatural characters act, getting hysterical over nothing, preaching political lies, or being completely backwards etc.
@@ShareAMeal77 i hear you. It got sloppy at the end but for most of its run Game of Thrones was top notch at keeping track of their details and staying consistent. Details matter. It can separate the gems from the garbage
can we just appreciate how he condensed 7 episodes - or roughly 6 hours of screen time - in just 15 minutes without losing meaningful details of the plot?
That scene where Galadriel took over the Brotherhood of Steel and then threatened to fire all the devs at Bethesda so they would change the name to the Sisterhood of Steel was so gratifying. You go girl.
By this time, she's supposed to be several thousand years old, married and a queen with a child. A person full of majesty and power, a powerful sorceress who's both wise and kind. She's not some bratty ass mary sue who's cocky as hell, makes terrible decisions every three seconds, and flails a sword around like a headless fucking chicken. Like goddamn, they actually nerfed the hell out of her while simultaneously destroying her entire character.
Its a double uno reverse tactic, they made it so it reflects how a strong and indepented woman is in this century and reflects our world, because they wanted to show strong female woke character, but in reality are just trying to hide the true power galadriel actualy has in the REAL original story where she is far stronger, wiser and better in every way than any female from our world could ever be. They are playing the woke people so bad its hilarious when you realise the game.
Testify it. Tolkien even said she was the closest thing there is to a main hero of the whole story, from the first age to the end of the third age. And not only does she prevail where almost everyone else falls, she does it by manifesting profoundly feminine traits, not by leading men into battle.
@@kjgoebel7098 she’s implied in the Silmarillion to also be an extremely skillful fighter ( like pretty much any elf sire of her bloodline and her age). She’s just not a bratty disrespectful know-it-all with temperament issues like the show depicts her.
When Galadriel said: I am not stuck on this boat with you, you are stuck on this boat with me I felt hope for the first time in years again. This is truly a movie.
When she abandons her miraculous rescuers to being eaten alive by miraculous sharks and then miraculously saved (twice) by a stranded white man on a miraculous boat made me realize that she was a miraculous white woman.
That scene where Galadriel took a dwarfish axe, tore down the locked room door and shouted with a manic grin " Heeere's Galadriel~! " gave me goosebumps.
Has anyone realized that maybe when Gil-Galad announces their days of peace have begun, its not because sauron is gone but because galadriel is sailing to valinor and going away.
I like how immediately after she jumps off the ship, the ship straight up just vanishes from the point she jumped off to resurfacing. No trace whatsoever. Just gone. Couldn’t have been more than a handful of seconds.
never mind the fact that Galadriel has been permanently banned from Valinor due to the kin-slaying perpetrated by her brothers and the Noldor in general
The worst part to me is that not only have they destroyed her character by making her things she isn't, but they've also stripped her of one of her greatest abilities. The ability to see through deceptions and illusions. Galadriel was the first to see through Anatar and perceive his true identity, but Saurbrand has completely escaped her detection. Awesome... Just awesome
Yes, the problem is not that they made this one too perfect. They made her not perfect enough (actually not perfect at all... for an Elf). Probably fearing that the audience wouldn't be able to accept a character with all possible virtues and hardly any ligt-grey spot of pride. They should have taken the risk!
Galadriel: -Cannot be burnt by lava, lava is burnt by her - corrupted the rings of power - quenches her thirst by drinking sea water - gravity doesnt pull Galadriel, she pulls middle earth
A country that dislikes elves? Nah, they’ll fight for me and die for me after I show them how much disrespect I have for their people and queen. Did Sauron, the one my revenge boner is for, reveal himself then I allowed him to leave? Nah, season two is coming, I’ll sort it out then.
A true leader knows that if you never leave witnesses of your horrible decisions alive, everyone is left to assume you only made good decisions, which is why you're still alive ;)
@@Lordeightbane well Amazon claims a " true female leader " retreats all the time. After all if no one is left alive, no one can accuse her of being a souless hag. A +
4:04 Watching this in retrospect really shows how absolutely genius the screenwriters are. Who would have thought that a person passed out from swimming for days could be brought back to full charge just by pouring 5ml of water on her lips, when she's covered in water? Pure genius!
Do you know what the worst part of jumping into amazons RoP oceans is? You can never get out by yourself, since you can only swim to your left. Because the sea is always right.
Loved the part where the narrator was presenting Galadriel's escape from prison: "Galadriel, the goddess who crawled through 500 yards of shit and came out clean the other end." Just beautiful.
The part when Galadriel says "E.T phone home" and ended all racism and male patriarchy in both Middle Earth and our own Planet Earth was so strong and inspiring.
It's like the writers took the vision of corrupted Galadriel from when she was offered the ring and decided that's actually alright for them. "All will love me and despair!"
I always wonder if one of these woke true believers saw this channel, would they know it’s satire or would this fall in line with exactly how they interpret what they’re watching? I absolutely love this channel.
There's a saying in my country: "all the evil towards good" - roughly translated. It means that no matter how shitty a thing is, there's some good in there somewhere. Rings of power is a tragedy, but content, like this video, inspired by it is a fucking masterpiece.
My partner and I have just had a child but after watching this masterpiece of a series, we're seriously considering putting little Masie up for adoption. It's been a couple of months and she's been, how should I say this? Underwhelming. After the perfection of Galadriel we were really hoping our little one would be putting us in our place by now.
@@Nopeasaurus thanks for your understanding. After some research, I think the bureaucracy is a bit much so we've decided to just place her in the recycling, just doing our bit for the environment you know?
My impression of why Dostoevsky written one-dimensional characters is because that character is a representation of philosophical concept or embodiment of a particular characteristic found in a personality. Kind of makes sense to interpret his books in that way for when characters interact.
Let's all spare a minute to appreciate how privileged we are to live in a time where we can enjoy such a masterfully written and inspiring character. Thank you, Amazon
this is a joke right? this show is actually fking trash. these people clearly have never read any of the books just the highlights. its so bad. its like watching season 6-8 game of thrones.
I love how Galadriel - after Hellbrand unsuccessfully dodges a hail of bullets - turns to the agent and with absolute triumph exclaims “Dodge this!” and put a well placed arrow in his head. Stunning and brave.
This is by far the best review of The Rings of Power. The sarcasm in this case is appropriate, because the show is a joke and should not be taken seriously. The Rings of Power is a corruption of the art of film making.
Galadriel just staying still overlooking her army from a distance is far more inspirational than any speech Aragorn have ever said. Truly a galagestic leader.
Remember when TV shows, movies and books didn't all try to make you as depressed as possible? Remember when even anti-heroes were so well written that one could empathize with the struggle that the protagonist faced? This show makes me actively depressed.
Check out House of the Dragon, though it takes place in a far more depressing world, it is good enough to offset any and all negative emotions produced by subjecting yourself to the rings of power.
I feel you man. WindowCat said it right: just don't watch it, spare yourself the disappointment and keep your old good memories of the story intact. It's what i do too; this also works with modern Star Trek and Terminator franchises.
Loved the part when Isildur said when talking about Galadriel “No, she wasn’t the Boogie Woman. She was the one you sent to kill the f*cking Boogie Woman and the patriarchy”. Get chills every time.
I love that boat scene where she jumps overboard to certain death and all her shipmates do nothing. No cries of "man overboard!" or even a call asking her what on earth is she doing? "Ya gonna die out there love!...get back ont boat before ye catch thi death of cold"...Just total silence as they sail away leaving her to die...Fine decision gentlemen.
Uh, this is Galadriel, and the last thing she’s want from these privileged white men is to be insulted with any insinuation that she needs help of any kind from them.
Well, you have to remember that in RoP, Middle Earth is TINY. Either that or they've given Galadriel the ability to warp time and space around herself. How else did she travel, on foot, from the frozen north back to Eregion (a trip of about 800 miles) in just a couple days? How else did she sail from Middle Earth to Valinor (around 1500 miles) in just a couple days? How else did she enable the Numenorians to sail from Numenor to the southlands (about 1000 miles) in two days? When she jumped into the sea, none of the other elves were concerned because they figured she'd just warp space again and allow herself to swim back to Middle Earth in an hour or two.
Her character truly is genius. She's written like a bad character to make us think she's a bad character, but then they reveal....that she truly is a bad character, rather than making a predictable "this is actually a good character" plot twist.
That scene where Galadriel took on a hailstorm of arrows, ballista bolts and trebuchet fireballs and came out with little more than a paper cut was good, but what made it perfect was the elf who told her she was bleeding, and GaLaDrIEl replied with ‘I ain’t got time to bleed’.
I just had a thought. What if the real Galadriel is in a dungeon somewhere and Sauron has been masquerading as her this whole time. Would make more sense and be hilarious!
Sweet mother of God, Guyladriel literally climbs the highest mountain and swims the deepest sea to showcase her awesomeness. Stunning and brave to the max!!!!
i dont know, jumping ship to certain death to try and swim across an entire ocean without any backup plan is peak dumb. The pyroclastic flow shows how dumb the writers are, while the former show how dumb the character is
I've got an explaination for this that I've learned from fans of the show. Ahem, here goes... If you believe in a world of magic and magical creatures like elves, giant spiders and dragons why not that an Elf can survive being flash roasted by a volcanic firestorm. Checkmate! Who could argue with such magnificent logic!😆
The scene where Galadriel curves the bullet around the haystack, striking Westley and causing him to roll down the hill while shouting "As you wish" has been worn out on my VHS copy of the series. Tears me up every time.
Dude you have the VHS copy?? I didn't know it out yet. I pre-ordered the flip-book version, which looks pretty dope to me. But some day I will own the VHS copy!
This show gives people hope! If you ever think in your life you did a bad job at something, just remember that Amazon did something worse with Rings of Powaaah.
Pyroclastic flow is between 800 and 2000 degrees. It doesn't burn you. It vaporizes you. Contrast that with regular fire at around 500 degrees or dragon fire (assuming some kind of alcohol or similar) at potentially between 300 and 600 degrees or so. If she could survive pyroclastic flow head-on, even Smaug's most halitosis-laden belching would be little more concerning than a balmy day at the beach for her. Mary who?
The writing process is to check boxes and make the story fit. Then these writers go with the first idea they get because they don't know where ideas come from and are afraid they won't get another one. Then to make things super easy for them they ignore time and space. This is known as the J.J. Abrams school of writing.
05:20 thank you for bringing up this plot overlook. In the extended version, this will be corrected, and Guyladriel will in fact rescue Halbrand, as befits a modern strong and independent woman.
More comedy gold. I salute you. Maybe you could do an episode on the genius of the dialogue in ROP. I think a focused distilled video of all that amazing dialogue might break the internet.
Galadriel is insanely perfect, especially for the niece of Faenor. In fact, she's written to be so beautiful, so powerful, so magical by Tolkien that she works best as a periphery character and not at all like a lead character. To make Galadriel a believable main character, one has to endow her with a bunch of qualities and traits Galadriel does not have. To make Galadriel a main character is to always invite power-characters, 'mary-sueing,' so on and so forth, because characters as powerful as Galadriel are meant to serve as allies, counsel, or an obstacle to a hero's journey: Not BE the hero of a journey. ANY focus on Galadriel is bound to be a failure by the very design of the character by Tolkien and their purpose in the overall narrative.
You've hit it right on the head. Galadriel was always meant to be the mythological 'Goddess' that renders aid and wisdom to the Hero. It's integral to who she is. You just can't make that into a main character without completely altering it. It just doesn't work.
The fact that the OC's i made during my middle school edgelord phase had more character flaws and struggles than Galadriel is just fucking hillarious to me.
Still doesn't seem like that plastic armor they wear in the second age of Amazon's middle earth is going to do much in battle. But Galadriel's plot armor is invincible.
At last someone gets this show and how much better it is than everything else! I'm literally crying real tears because I am so used to seeing hit pieces on rop. History will remember this show as a work of art on par with the cistene chapel and Leonardo da Vinci
