This rare video is from the wiped 10 July 1966 edition of the George Mitchell Minstrels' popular Dutch TV show 'Mid-evening Serenade'.
The songs being performed here in this medley are 'Plaisir d'Amour', 'Getting Sentimental', 'Moon River' and 'Love Is a Many-Splendored Thing'.
This night-time section of the show was recorded in early June 1966 on the beach at the Hotel Spaander, Volendam, Northern Holland. The 40-minute show, called 'Midavondserenade in Volendam', was produced on 625-line videotape by the Katholieke Radio Omroep organisation for broadcast on the national channel Nederland 1 on 10 July 1966. The entire show was later wiped, with this clip surviving only by virtue of its recently discovered inclusion in another TV show.
This particular edition of the show was reshot on colour film later on in June 1966 by George Mitchell's own production company. This colour version was screened at the Golden Rose of Montreux television festival in 1967, but was not able to contend for the Golden Rose award as it had not been shown on TV within the allowed qualifying period.
This colour 'Midavondserenade' show (the first of four George Mitchell shows shot in colour in Holland and Yugoslavia) had its debut screening in Holland on 29 July 1970 on the channel Nederland 2. The whereabouts of this version of the show is currently unknown. The three other 30-minute colour shows made in Yugoslavia (which featured the George Mitchell Singers under the name 'The Happy Sixteen') were shown on Dutch TV in 1969.
