Just a brilliant southern rock tune. Super fun and keep your hands to yourself lol. In the music video it ended in a shotgun wedding and the bride was pregnant lol.
I’ve heard this song before, obviously, but I never really listen to the lyrics so this time listening more closely I feel like the story just stops without a resolution, so thank you for pointing out the music video does have an ending. I feel much better now!😂
What a FUN song! THANK YOU! 😝And the saying is..."Why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free?" I believe it's what EVERY parent says to their daughter as they are growing up.
Yeah, Georgia Satellites are a great band, and may not have had huge commercial success, they did make at least 3 fine, rockin' albums. Way back in the day I was a singer in a band, an we did a cover of Battleship Chains for a while in our shows...great fun tune. Some other great songs from them are; Open All Night, Don't Pass Me By, All Over But The Cryin', Games People Play, and, Sweet Blue Midnight. Cheers!
I actually only bought this album (used and cheap) just a few weeks ago on the fond memory of this song. When I was 3 songs in, I wondered why this band didn't make it bigger. Truthfully, every song on the album is as good as this. Then I realized why. The album has no dynamics - every song is just pumping loud and compressed to hell. While the music and songs are good, the record is fatiguing to listen to all the way through. While it was well recoded, it was poorly produced.
In the original music video, he does get married cause she’s knocked up and he’s got a shotgun up his kazoo by her father lol. Great reaction guys thanks.
You'd have to watch the official video to see if he got a free meal or not. Also, they weren't exactly a one-hit wonder. They had two other songs that charted: "Battleship Chains" and "Hippy Hippy Shake." If you want to try something else from them I'd suggest "All Over But The Cryin" or "Six Years Gone."
What fun! I love you two. You seemed sad that it was over too quickly. Trust me, when your cover band plays this in a bar, you just keep playing as long as they're on the dance floor, haha! It was written by lead singer Dan Baird, the first of whose subsequent solo albums was entitled "Love Songs for the Hearing Impaired" - which says something about his delightful sense of humor. From that album, you might also enjoy "I Love You Period". Cheers!
Southern Rock with a bit of a Yodel . It’s a great party song from back in the day in the bands video it ends with what we call a shotgun wedding as a joke. ☮️
Such a fun song. Reminds me of parties as a teenager. As for one-hit-wonder.... I'm not so sure ;) How about "Battleship Chains" and "Hippy, Hippy Shake" from the movie Cocktail with Tom Cruise? ;)
You should watch the official video for this song and you'll see what happens/how it turns out. Also Check out the group TESLA. Their songs/videos "SIGNS (LIVE AT THE TROCADERO 1990)" and "LOVE SONG". These guys have an Awesome Sound!!!
Such a fun song, and the video is great too if you want to check it out. In the end the official video he ends up marrying her, and not by choice, and she is very pregnant 😂
Georgia Satellites showed up in 1988-89, and suddenly a wave of "roots rock" started up again. The "Hair metal" days were dead. Unfortunately for them, 6 months later, The Black Crowes came along and stole their thunder, and became the resident "Hippie Rock" revival.
Great song but they actually had two other hits albeit not as big as this one. "BATTLESHIP CHAINS", And "HIPPY HIPPY SHAKE"( From the movie 'Cocktail') were also big for them.
