Just wondering, does anyone know if Sam McDaniel was related to Hattie McDaniel? After reading about Hattie McDaniel in Wikipedia, (the first Black Woman to win an Oscar for “Gone with the Wind”), it turns out that Sam, who played Harmony was her older brother. They were two very gifted actors for their time.
I have always wondered why in murder movies or scary movies NO ONE EVER TURNS THE DANG LIGHTS ON? They all prefer to run into a dark room and yell, "Who is it?", or "What is it?", instead of turning on the light (by the door) so they could all see, lol.
That's called a "plot device" . Something that moves the plot along or facilitates the action. It's the explanation of why a certain action is taking place, silly as some of them may seem. Example: a dark and stormy night that washes out the only road, is the plot device that makes it possible for the characters to have to stay in a near by haunted mansion.

Or in this case, a dark room that can hide someone or a sinister act and increases the creepy factor. If you can just flip on the light , well what's the fun in that? 😄
The best movies 🎥 👌 with solid acting and directing were made in the 40's....and these of music to add to the story couldn't be beat. I eould be able to tell if I would lik6thd the movie 🎥 as soon as I heard 👂 the intro music 🎶....those days are sure Long-GONE....
And the writer stayed on topic, to get as much mileage from the veiled lynching innuendo as he could: "Have you ever been hung before?" and saying, " Well, you've got a nice neck for it!" This film was 1943 and the last officially recognized lynching of a black person, 14 y/o Emmitt Till, was in 1955. Other suspected lynchings since then have been passed off as 'suicides'. Lynching wasn't even made a federal crime until March of last year. And even then, 4 members of Congress tried to keep it as just a state's issue. Easy to imagine the demographic that would still appreciate this attempt at humor today.
I seen this movie .Lved it. Thru thick nd thin. It really makes a marriage work. Plus 50 . 50. If u like humour nd blk nd white movies u like this one. Thk u for the video. Again Great Movie
"Looks like a neck tie party". "Boss, if it's all the same to you, I resign". "You've ever been hanged? You have a good neck for it". DAMN! No wonder this isn't on TV. Still love the movie.
SuzieQ, the problem with your suggestion -- "what I say.....ain't always what I meant to do" -- is that it fails to capture his affirmation and his confession: he is admitting was slyly deceptive and meant to be "intellectually dishonest".
I would be willing to bet that the thumbs DOWN for this movie are from folks who were turned off by the first 10-12 minutes. You can see a lot of Morey Amsterdam in this movie, as though he wrote it for himself. Not sure if I would keep a house given to me if someone was killed there, I am surprised this woman has no problem with that.
Well a great movie .. the younger people don't get slap stck comedy at all .. now days they are use to foul language and the grabing of body parts to make their "?comedy? Funny"
Woman knows best until she makes a decision. Surprised back in the 1940's women even had a say I know my Mom didn't my Dad ruled the house as the large King pin with do as I say and talk only when asked.
Gloria Hanes Do you realize in the Forties when the men went off to war, the war factories and almost every job done by men of draft age were done by women. It was the decade of strong women in movies, too. They were crammed back into little wifey roles in movies and life after the war.
Asking a Black Man if he'd ever been hanged, especially for the 1930's, isn't 21st century political correctness, but it was sure a funny movie. That old geezer was sure wanting to stay in practice with his hanging trade.
there are plenty of really good films of that era, but this one has a crude film- noir sophomore dialog & storyline and looks to be a Grade C studio product shot on very low budget.
I can't believe over 1700 people have viewed at least some of this movie without anyone giving it a thumbs down. That's all over now. Phew, the movie stinks as bad as the house and cow shit.
