458 socom is more powerful especially when hand loaded because their is a greater offering of bullet weights. Out of the big 3 big bore AR 15 rounds 458 is the most picked for hand loaders

make your own brass and reload. The 458 is intended for and really only useful for, suppressed use. Since that means sub 1000 fps ammo, , you can use cast bullets in it. So there's no reason for you to have to pay more than about 20c to shoot it.

The 500 S&W is exactly .042" larger than the 458 - they are both CALIBERS meaning - they are units of inches.
