Mannn this really helped clear some things up. All my life I had been trying to understand why I didn't speak in the "tongues" I heard in church growing up. Even when I was in a Sunday school that had tried to teach us to "jump start" speaking in tongues. Always felt like a second class Christian because I apparently didn't receive this baptism by fire. Very thankful for the journey the lord has had me on these past few years to taking off the rose colored glasses I had on. Thank you for this teaching.

This teaching right here will mess you up. Finding out this truth and realizing how unbiblical the practice as I had learned and was taught was what you needed to do to have the Holy Spirit really has changed a lot for me. By the grace of God I’m holding onto my faith in the cross and unlearning the lies which is a challenge because the adversary will fight you with everything he has to keep you stuck in deception.

Great teaching! Our churches today really need to at least listen to this. Maybe then we can get to where we should be in these perilous times. Thanks pastor. ✝️✝️✝️

I've heard so many arguments on both sides, and both make pretty good arguments. My own opinion on the subject though is Nay on tongues as they are presented today, personally I lean more towards that it is supposed to be an actual language, not repetitious noise that's claimed to be languages of Angels. But again that's just my opinion based on my interpretation of Scripture. Please note that I am referring to the "unknown language of angels" aspect of the tongues movement, and am not referring to actual languages (like the Apostles at Pentecost). I don't speak in tongues nor ever have. But I do know some that have at one time and some that currently do. I've studied the tongues practice for quite some time, and speaking and interpreting tongues all fall under one aspect of Scripture that regularly goes unnoticed. my issue with it is the following - 1Corinthians 14:14) "For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful." This pretty much is the sole argument they have for the "unknown" language being valid. But I have a problem with that. Praying in tongues for their own edification also is a problem because you don't know what you are saying, and this is confusion and violates a doctrine of Scripture, and no single practice can be considered valid if it violates another precept. It must correlate with all of God's Word or else be seen as a false teaching. Please read 1Corinthians chapter 14 The argument all stems from a persons defense of tongues in general, valid language or not, and they always look to the thing instead of what it is causing. Speaking in tongues, praying in tongues, thinking in tongues, and praising in tongues all seems to be a great thing, but where the true argument comes in is the defiling act of confusion of the Spirit. 1Corinthians 14:33) "For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints." Causing confusion to yourself is also a valid mistake and if it is done willingly is a sin to your own self. Willful confusion is sowing discord, confusion, and error among the church and is reaping no benefit other than to satiate ones own desire to fulfill a want. James 4:17) "Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin." Rather one should look to clarify, clear up the matter, be aware of the goings on, and if any person needs wisdom to understand a matter then let them ask of God who gives to all men liberally. God gives wisdom to understand all things, including language. Tongues therefore should be used for edification (the instruction or improvement of a person morally or intellectually), edifying the church to help teach the saints the Word and Will of God, or of self to understand the Word and Will of God. And how can one do this if they don't know what they are saying? Now the other side of the coin is also true, and I'll pose it as a question. 2Corinthians 11:14-15) "And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works." Is it possible that the enemy could trick one into thinking that they are praising God in some "unknown language of angels" and possibly be instead giving a place to the devil? Can a Christian be fooled and deceived? 1John 4:1) "Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world." Don't just accept or give into a practice or desire because many do it and say it's fine or blessed, but rather test the act/belief/doctrine/teaching by submitting it to the Word of God UNBIASEDLY. Be willing to give it up if it does not affirm to be a true gift of God, and be ready to resist it if it is a device of the enemy. All things are good that edify, but if it cannot praise God and give Him the glory and honor in full view and understanding, and instead it brings confusion and misunderstanding, then it is not of God but is rather a ploy of darkness manifesting itself as an angel of light. 1Corinthians 14:28) "But if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence in the church; and let him speak to himself, and to God." If there is no interpreter then all should keep silence, or else confusion and error is permeating the church and that will be an act of the enemy to draw away the church into sin. This is what the Word of God says and many want to ignore or disregard it because it doesn't fit with their personal view. However, if there is an interpreter that can accurately state what is being said then it is Biblical, but if not then keep silence. Again, all things must edify Scripturally, and cannot be something that is insisted upon because it "edify's" the flesh. True Biblical edification is that which honors and glorifies the Holy Lord God and not the opinions and feelings of the people. All things must be subjected to the Word of God or else be ridden of, and that includes practices, doctrines, opinions, and thoughts. All things must be taught in light of God's Word and must be in line with all precepts of Christ, and if it violates even one then it is not of God. 1Timothy 4:17) "Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth. For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving: For it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer. If thou put the brethren in remembrance of these things, thou shalt be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished up in the words of faith and of good doctrine, whereunto thou hast attained. But refuse profane and old wives' fables, and exercise thyself rather unto godliness." Exercise thyself unto Godliness, all that which is of God, teaches by God, and is in line with the Word of God. Setting aside one's own beliefs and opinions if it doesn't match up with the Word of God, because His will and ways must precede first in our lives. Godliness, holiness, and the perfect way is setting up Scripture as the most important thing in one’s life, choosing to obey the Lord God Jesus Christ above that which the world and other beliefs and practices would possibly deem as right.

@BrotherMatthewCCT - You are on point!! Pastor Damon does have a teaching on 1 Cor 14 that gives more historical, cultural context (Corinth being a multi-lingual international city as a major port and trade stop to the known world at that time). If you look at the letter with that in mind instead of the spiritual "unknown" language paradigm the Pentecostal movement has adopted, along side the KJV's adding the word "unknown", you can see what Paul is addressing. Which is the confusion that comes from NOT following the first rule of fellowship; what's in the entire community's best edification as a whole when meeting?!?). Example: 1 Cor 14:2 For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue (better yet "language") (now ask yourself UNKNOWN TO WHO?) speaketh not unto men, but unto God, for no man understandeth him, however it may be that in the spirit he speaketh mysteries (this can mean supernatural morse code, surpassing spiritual knowledge). Put this in our current language "For he that speaks Haitian Creole in the midst of a Greek speaking community speaks to no ne who can understand him, but might as well be speaking to God since it's all a mystery to the rest of the community. Or on verses 9 So likewise you, unless ye utter by the tongue words easy to be understood, how shall it be known what is spoken, for ye shall be speaking into the air? 10 There are, it may be, so many kinds of voices in the world, and none of them is without signification. 11 Therefore, if I know not the meaning of the voice, I shall be unto him that speaketh a barbarian, and he that speaketh shall be a barbarian unto me. if the individual is from far east whose first language is Mandarin, chances are no Corinthian will be able to understand or interpret what's been said. So keep it to yourself if you as someone who speaks Mandarin can't speak Koine Greek well enough to say what you would naturally say with no problem in Mandarin. Again the first rule of community = edification of the entire community over any personal one!!

You run into lots of problems in 1 Corinthians 14 if you believe that tongues is only languages known to other humans. That is if you are really wanting to keep it biblical. When we speak in tongues we speak not unto men but unto God.

all Angels that was sent with a message it was understood what the Angels was speaking,, and the Holy Spirit is One and the Sameself Spirit with God , so why would the Holy Spirit in you need to speak a different language? When they all had one language it was human language, then God gave them different languages . So speaking in new tongues is a human language. Acts 10: 44-47 Gentiles spoke with the same gift as they did at Pentecost. Isa28:11 with men of other lips I will speak to My people, real language.

1 Cor 14 doesn't backup what your argument. It clearly says the tongue being referenced is a language that only God can understand, NOT man (human); unless, God gives a person a gift to understand (interpret) it. 1 Cor 14:2
@terrellcollins200
@terrellcollins200 6 лет назад
Ralph Thompson. Because God understands all languages but we dont and no matter how you twist the scripture the word tongue means "language" human languages its hard to believe truth when something false is so deeply rooted in a person and the our family members. This brother taught the truth

@ralphthompson355 6 лет назад
Terrell Collins "For he that speaketh in an unknown (language) speaketh NOT unto men, but unto God: for NO MAN UNDERSTANDETH HIM; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries." 1Cor 14:2. This is as plain as day. No twisting necessary.
@terrellcollins200
@terrellcollins200 6 лет назад
Ralph Thompson but the Greek is necessary and if you are not willing to look up the words in the original language and teach it in context then we can make scripture say what ever we want it to say its still means human languages no matter how you quote the scripture
@ralphthompson355

Terrell Collins Ok, so it's a human language that NO human understands...unless God allows it.
@unclegav07

Ralph Thompson clearly a swing and a miss... good observation. The "speaking to God" part and the "mysteries" part were not addressed. Well spoken and well studied doesn't always produce truth. The Holy Ghost is our teacher and he will help us discern what is true concerning scripture. Language studies sometimes are at the mercy of man's interpretation and therefore rest on a shoddy foundation.

I agree with 100% of what you taught here, this is just MORE confirmation of what i heard said within me years ago while reading God's Word, i heard the words "experience does not equate truth".. the example was then given to me of people having had .. or .. presently having experiences that were of the "supernatural" nature, but i was told that just because their "experience" was real *to them) and that it was "of a supernatural kind", does not mean it is of God, from God or by God! ... now, again i agree 100% with what you taught, but please address this part of the subject, so people can get a clear understanding.... please answer the question of the so called "secret prayer language" that Christians believe is a private language spoken between them and God in times of prayer (praying in tongues), while in their "prayer closets" or in front their homenade altars or shrines, or in some secret, quiet place in or around their homes... many reference Paul and 1 Corinthians 14 for this couse of thinking and conviction..

I agree that some people learn tongues from other people and sometimes they pickup people's tongue, but that is not my case and for many other believers. I speak clearly long sentences and little repetitions. I have seen babbles who really aren't gift and you can hear the difference, they hardly know much words and keep repeating the same 3 or 4 words over and over. So sad. I first recieved the gift first dreaming I was speaking in tongues and then a few days after while I was in worship in my room the words came out and was so heavy and strange sounding. I also sing in tongues. Yes I hear the gibberish in a lot of churches and I realise that is not the genuine gift some call it the " spirit of tongues" they only can do it if they " fall under the spirit". I can speak at will and I do it when I am in prayer and intercession and it also help me to prophesy to people.

I agree. I made a video about how I tried to teach myself how to speak in tongues by listening to other people and mimicking theirs 🤦🏾‍♀️ When I did that it sounded soooooo weird and I would repeat the same lil 3 or four babble words over and over. But I thank God because I really thought in my heart thats how you recieved them and I was genuinely seeking after God and I wanted everything He had to offer especially the Holy Spirit. Anyway I went to church one day after I felt I had practiced enough lol I would go in there and would repeat those same lil bable words SMH. I sounded like a few others in the church to so I felt like I had it. Anyway because I was in a process of seeking the LORD I wanted to get baptized in water which was July 30 2017 Sunday. The Third day August 1st at home alone sitting and praying to God (not in my made up Babble tongues lol but my regular language) I felt a STRONG presence enter the room and I stood up and looked up because that's where the presence felt it came from and I began to just start thanking God and tears flowed down my eyes and I began to lightly hit my chest while saying I love you God I love you God over and over and over again and while I was doing that I felt Holy Spirit come into me and I began to instantly speak a language and TRUST ME it wasn't babbling like I was trying to teach myself it was an authentic language that I had not learned on my own to speak. I sounded jussssssst like the people over there in the middle east. Like how they talk with their throats what was coming out of my mouth sounded like ancient Hebrew and I wasn't repeating the same thing over it was an actual language. Anyway as my mouth was speaking I was saying in my mind "Omg Jesus is in me He's really in me" lol I will NEVER forget that. I do know when people speak authentically and when its just their flesh and I can speak in tongues on going as long as I wish and its never repetition and I don't have to sit and think about what to say it flows from my Spirit not my mind. Later that day the devil tried to scare me to not speak in tongues and was trying to convince me it was demonic but the Holy Spirit lead me to GOD'S WORD to the scripture Luke 11:9-13 9“So I say to you, ask,and it will be given to you. Seek, and you will find. Knock, and the door will be opened to you. 10For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened. 11What father among you, if his son asks for a fish, will give him a snake instead of a fish? 12Or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? 13If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him? ” Matthew 7:7-11 7“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. 8For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened. 9Or which one of you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? 10Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent? 11If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him! Even though I was wrong and wayyy off trying to teach myself how to speak in tongues lol God knew how sincere my heart was and that my only motive was that I was trying to seek everything He had to offer me. I asked For His Holy Spirit and speaking in tongues but I thought I had to just speak in faith "we can't speak things we can ask the LORD" but because I was new in the Faith I misunderstood a lot of things BUT GOD taught me through my mistakes. I laugh so hard still today about how ridiculous I sounded but when i got the real thing... oh it sounded nothing like that babble stuff lol .Its fluent as though I been speaking it my whole life. Anyway nobody can convince me otherwise about what I know the LORD gave me. I asked specifically for it and He gave it to me the 3rd day after I was baptized in water I was baptized with the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking in tongues.

Where you reference "This is that" to what happened at the giving of the Torah is Exodus, the scripture clearly states that this is that which was spoken of by the prophet Joel; and it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and daughters shall prophesy,.....i do not agree with your interpretation of "This is That". I always say this, Receiving the Holy Ghost with the initial outward evidence of speaking with other tongues as the Spirit of God gives you utterance is a personal experience that no theology can decipher. Peter said at Cornelius house "for we heard them spoke with tongues and we did". The same is true today" for we heard them speak in tongues as we did. I see no reason why God cannot use tongues for all believers as the sign in infilling. In fact it is happening every day. My question to you is this: At what exact moment does one know they received the Holy Ghost ? and what is the sign?

Yes, Mt. 19:9 is grossly misunderstood. Jesus' words are a response to Pharisaic student teachers who are asking a specific question stemming from Deut. 24:1-4. Jesus' words here taken in it's proper context cannot mean that he is prohibiting divorce, a view that would set him at odds with the Scriptures which are inspired by God, meaning Jesus would be contradicting himself and would be out of step with his own Torah.

And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples, He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost. And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John's baptism. Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus. When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied. And all the men were about twelve. And he went into the synagogue, and spake boldly for the space of three months, disputing and persuading the things concerning the kingdom of God. But when divers were hardened, and believed not, but spake evil of that way before the multitude, he departed from them, and separated the disciples, disputing daily in the school of one Tyrannus. And this continued by the space of two years; so that all they which dwelt in Asia heard the word of the Lord Jesus, both Jews and Greeks. And God wrought special miracles by the hands of Paul: So that from his body were brought unto the sick handkerchiefs or aprons, and the diseases departed from them, and the evil spirits went out of them. Then certain of the vagabond Jews, exorcists, took upon them to call over them which had evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, We adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preacheth. And there were seven sons of one Sceva, a Jew, and chief of the priests, which did so. And the evil spirit answered and said, Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye? And the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, and overcame them, and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded. And this was known to all the Jews and Greeks also dwelling at Ephesus; and fear fell on them all, and the name of the Lord Jesus was magnified. Acts 19:1‭-‬17 KJV

I know of Bishop I. W. Evans from International Apostolic Ministries, Waterloo Santa Cruz, who went into a foreign country and spoke in an unknown tongue that was interpreted by the hearers (he was actually glorifying God in that unknown tongue), being their native language and numerous other accounts. When Cornelius and his household spoke in an unknown tongue, it was unknown to both the speaker (Cornelius) and the Hearers (Peter and the Jews present with him). Same with Acts chapter 19 (Unknown to the speakers (John's disciples and the hearer Paul). Paul says to the church in Corinth, that none of you spoke in tongues more than i do); I personally have spoken the gift of tongues and also interpreted the words in English and have witnessed it a number of times. Not gibberish, but clear speaking in language form. I find your interpretation of scriptures re tongues to be misinterpreted and way off. Acts chapter 1vs 8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. Receiving the Holy Ghost is a clear and notable experience.

Tongues is real. I pray in tongues (various languages). We dont always know what to pray for but once baptized in the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in other tongues, the Holy Spirit will pray the perfect prayer. I've heard myself pray in a language that sounded like Italian and sometimes Japanese and even Arabic. There are languages that we have never heard before by various tribes. There are tongues that are angelic. The church runs from the supernatural of God which is why the gifts of the Spirit are not practiced in most churches. When you haven't been baptized in the Holy Spirit you will never experience the gifts of the Spirit. The evidence that you have been baptized in the Holy Ghost is when you speak in tongues.

"Tongues" still accompany the indwelling and filling today. The problem is that most people are not waiting for the Spirit to give them utterance. 🔑🔓 REAL tongues are fluent and sound fluent to the nearby listener. REAL tongues are a MIRACLE so when you speak (WITH THE UTTERANCE) there's no confusion on whether or not you REALLY spoke. REAL tongues don't need to be 'jump started' by you. If you are confused about whether you spoke... then your "tongues" were most likely YOU.. rattling off/flipping random syllables. And I don't believe you can "speak" on demand. That has never been my experience.

Terrell Collins -Hmm... There seems to be some misunderstanding. I never said that tongues weren't real. (I spoke in tongues before. ) However.. I am saying that I believe some or most of what I hear is gibberish and faked and people don't really believe in God in their hearts enough to wait for the miracle of tongues. Also.. theirs too many false gifts on the loose (false tongues, false prophecy, etc) because folks are playing church. That's why one minute people are talking about they are saved and the next minute they are talking about they don't believe in God. That is my stance pretty much.

Cutie Pie oh okay i thought you were saying the gift of tongues wasnt real, my apology. i agree with you that most of what we hear in church is gibberish and fake and is not from God, and especially the false prophets. it is a very touchie subject for alot of people because we have family members who speak the gibberish and some are very sincere people. It has been nice dialoguing with you, may the Lord continue to bless you and your family my sister in Christ.

Nobody in the bible says that speaking in tongues is the ONLY EVIDENCE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT,,,nobody says,, ONLY ONE SIGN OF THE BAPTISM OF THE HOLY SPIRIT IS SPEAKING IN TONGUES. Paul ask them do all teach? do all speak in tongues? the answer is NO!! Paul says like the body has many parts so does the Spirit many gifts but One and the Sameself Spirit,,,gives gifts to men as He pleases.

Lost a lot of credit on this one bro. History doesn't interpret scripture; it's the other way around. Paul said the spirit prays but his understanding is unfruitful. Besides, what happened in Acts 2 was more a miracle of hearing for the hearers. Too many holes in this teaching.

If paul was speaking in a different language then it is obvious that he wouldn't understand what he was say but that the holy spirit was in full control. That's is why an interpreter is neccessary.

paul speaking in tongues more than all can be explained that is because he is apostle to the gentiles. gentiles from other language speaking peoples...the narrative of Babylon and God drawing all men to Jesus at least to me, shows that is is actual human languages.

This poor-confused fella: We would ask that those who are following these teachings do your research. There is no language called Galilean, this is merely a location where many people spoke different languages. Just as we live in America, and there is no language called- America, but there are many different languages that are spoken by the people of America. The people heard their own language because there was someone from every nation to speak to that nation in their own language. They were not confused by what they heard, but as to the meaning of what they heard. The scriptures come in many languages, but those who read and hear without the spirit of understanding are confounded, just as the scriptures state in Acts 2:6. The Word came to the multitude in their own language, but they did not understand the spirit of the Word. The spirit adopts every language of man to mediate unto that man, but must be interpreted in the spirit in order to be understood, just as Ezra 4:7, refers to the writing of the letter was written in the Syrian tongue, and had to be interpreted in the Syrian tongue. Acts 2:12 proves our point, though they heard the words, they were in doubt of the meaning of what was heard. To doubt means: to not be sure of the meaning. So in saying this, we are saying that if you hear the letter of scripture in English, you still need to have someone break down the spiritual meaning in English- thus interpreting that tongue.

Umm.....you know there were two groups in the audience at Pentecost right? Some that understood and some were mocking.
@bibleinterpreter5530
@bibleinterpreter5530 6 лет назад
Degrion Hill: The bible teaches us to prove all things and hold fast to that which is good: At Pentecost there was only believers and they were in one accord, but when the message was sent out after Pentecost that is where the confusion came into play as stated in Acts 2:6. The multitude heard but did not understand because they were not part of those who were at Pentecost. When it was said, noised abroad, this means outside of Pentecost, widely spread, and verse 1 of the same ch. proves our point, they were all of one accord, in one place. Those who heard it abroad were not apart of the same that heard it in one place, because to be abroad, means to be widely spread and not in one location. The multitude were not filled with the Holy Ghost, but everyone that was at Pentecost was filled with the Holy Ghost, as stated in Acts 2:4.

I think there may be some confusion in what I meant. Within your original comment, you state "They were not confused by what they heard, but as to the meaning of what they heard." What I'm saying is there were two groups in the audience, not including the Apostles(or 120). One subset of the audience heard the tongues and understood them to be the languages from the lands they were born (Acts 2:12). A second subset(Acts 2:13) of the audience whom the bible calls "others" where mocking saying, "These men are full of new wine". So I agree with your comment about subset 1 but not about subset 2. Also on another note, you say that "even if you hear a letter of scripture in English, you still need someone to break down the spiritual meaning in English". I don't agree. The Holy Ghost/Spirit teaches us all things. If I diligently study his word and pray for understanding, it will be granted. Having a true preacher/minister to help is a bonus but it is not a necessity.
@bibleinterpreter5530
@bibleinterpreter5530 6 лет назад
Degrion Hill, we have one question of you seeing that you are of the opinion that the preacher/minister is not a necessity, but merely a bonus. When St Luke 5:38-39, refers to the new wine, what is it referring to, and if you do not understand or know, then this proves that the preacher/minister is not the bonus, but the necessity. This new wine is the same new wine that is being referred to in Acts 2:13, but if you know not the meaning of the new wine, you need someone who does. It is easy to quote scriptures, without the understanding of said scriptures, as you have so eloquently quoted Acts 2:13, but what is the interpretation? We have the NEW WINE, and have no desire for the old.
@enlightenedone1633
@enlightenedone1633 6 лет назад
You're kinda jumping all over the place. My original comment was about the groups of people at Pentecost. NOT new wine and whether or not it is a necessity. So, why the shift in topic? "New wine" was just a part of one of the verses I used, not the subject of the response. Besides, "new wine" was mentioned by Jesus in a parable and I fully understand that we MUST have the newness of Christ in our hearts. We MUST be spirit filled followers of Christ. We have to have faith that when we repent of our sins and seek to live a Holy life that we have been baptized with the Holy Ghost/Spirit evidenced by righteous living with the fruit of the spirit. My guess is that you are trying to equate new wine with speaking in tongues or basically saying Holy Ghost = speaking in tongues. Those two are NOT the same thing. Anyway, as far as your question goes, when Jesus mentions new wine and old bottles, he is referring to people who who could not comprehend the newness of his message and were trying to intermingle it together with the Old Testament ritual and rules. To accept the newness of Christ, the individuals of that time needed to have a renewal of their minds. They had to fully accept Christ as king and believe his message, which they did not do until Pentecost.

Roddy Shaffer if one is speaking in tongues not to men but to God. It's only to God. Not out loud in church with a lot other people speaking in a unknown tongue at the same time. Only three the most. If it not edify it's like talking in the air. If no one can understand why do it. If for the most high talk to him alone if no one understand it will be between you and the most high.

Thanks for this teaching. How do you advise those who have in fact received the gift of languages early in their christian life - and it not being fake ie I received the gift whilst praying alone and then after a praise service was ending as I sat down I spoke out fluently without any prompting - it was super-natural - so what should I believe now - I know it wasn't fake.

I pray in tongues also. I also did not receive it in a church service. The Bible is clear about its purpose. A witness to unbelievers who recognize their own language and hear a message from God, personal edification for an individual believer as he/she prays to God, a message to a church in an unknown language with an interpretation in a known language. I used to be bothered by believers praying altogether at once in tongues and I asked the Lord about it. He took me straight to Acts, where the Spirit came on the people all at once and they prayed in tongues all at once, very loudly apparently as people out in the streets heard it, and He said to me, "It was My idea!" I was like, yeah, that's right! From that moment it no longer bothered me. There may be people who have misunderstood the gift and its purpose but it is still a real gift and still being given out today.

Did i used to speak tongue tied tongues before where it wasn't controlled at all? yes and it sounded some type of creole or something. But either way, I am not going to worry about this, I leave it in Jesus hands if I been deceived or not, especially with this tongues thing. The holy spirit will allow it to be revealed.
