I did not know Louisa Jacobson was Meryl Streep's daughter. Also, I was surprised but I really enjoy Cynthia Nixon as aunt Ada. I thought the character would be boring but she is very charming.
I Love Aunt Ada and Aunt Agnes, they bring so much fun to the show. Marian on the other hand deserves happiness and was hoping she would marry Larry Russell.
Louisa Jacobson uses her middle name, Jacobson, instead of her last name, Gummer, because there was already a "Louisa Gummer" in the actors' union and rules prohibit two performers having the same name.
Baranski's Aunt Agnes is a fascinating character. On one hand she's supportive and generous and the other, controlling and demeaning towards others, especially her sister. Some of her one-liners are at the same time hilarious and devastating. I can well imagine Marian being terrified of Aunt Agnes.
I just love that time in history when people dressed so fancy and acted proper even when angry they still addressed you as Mr or Miss or Mrs. I also like that it is about early New York and American history rather than in Europe like Downton Abbey which I also loved.
The only reason I first started watching, The Guilded Age, was because Christine B. had a role in the series. I have always loved her and the different roles she has played through out her career. IMO, Ms. Christine is very talented and she will always be in my top 5 favorite actresses.
I remember hearing that back when Baranski was on Cybill and Cowles was off and on on All My Children. They way both actors played their characters made them seem polar opposites but when I found out Baranski was raised in Upstate NY and Cowles was NYC born and bred and was a "theater brat" (his father was a prominent NY stage producer) it made sense. Sounds like it was a happy marriage.
Credibility? @1:36, the topic is Nixon but the quote is attributed to Baranski. Then @5:19, nuptials is pronounced "numptuals". And a simple search will tell you why Louisa doesn't use the last name Gummer.
Louisa had to change her last name for the Screen Actors Guild ( SAG) there was already a Louisa gummar and there can't be two actors with the same name.
I think the casting directors did a fantastic job casting everyone Except Louisa Jacobson as Marian Brooke. Her acting skills are Not up to scuff with the rest of the seasoned actors & actresses & she’s just Not believable in her role. When this video stated she is one of the daughters of Merle Street then it all made sense as Merle has A Lot of pull in Hollywood as she was picked because of that connection
@@IceAintNice , Daughter was on a talk show & talked about this. There are 2 ways to spell the name. The fact I was able to spell with a TBI from an car accident is amazing as I had to learned how to talk again & write. Maybe you should stop paying attention to others small mistakes & pay attention to yourself
Friendships between coloured people such as Peggy Scott and Marion did not exist in that period and the money age. I love all the characters and the story but afraid Peggy and her struggle is a story by itself and nothing to do with the Socialite world of the Russels and van Rhyns .
