@@nancydublin3315 the show is beautiful and the characters are so dynamic and interesting. If you’re hungry for more content check out the podcast as well. It’s an interesting listen.
I actually waited for all the episodes to be released so I could watch it all in one time. But now I understand that the network doesn’t look at overall views but per week. I feel really bad😔
Season 3 if it happens. I bet Bertha is going to regret pushing her daughter to the Duke. Her husband won’t be happy bankrolling the Duke. I want Marion and Larry to marry. I think they are just great together. Ada and Agnes dynamic is changing.
The Duke is kind of creepy to me. I'm sure they have cast it that way. I'm sure George will put his foot down. It will be interesting to see how Bertha reacts when her family goes against her plan. She is a survivor.
With a division between the Russel’s, you also had it where Mr. Russel promised Gladys that if she really loved someone he would let her marry him (or something along those lines), which this marriage with the Duke would break.
Peggy was smart to get out of the relationship with Thomas Fortune. Fortune was based on a real historical character of his name. He did wonderful things for human rights. He was a trail blazer. However, he was married at the time and unfortunately later on in life succumbed to severe alcoholism. Who knows, maybe Peggy could have been just what he needed had the timing been different.
I will be so sad if this doesn't get renewed, this season was even better than the last! If you're interested in the history of the era a lot of the plot points were a bit predictable(dollar princesses, Brooklyn bridge, will the Metropolitan open successfully?) but I also applaud their attempts at accuracy. I feel like a couple more episodes per season would have given certain beats - like Luke Forte's illness / death and Peggy and the black community saving the schools a little more space to breathe and made them more impactful. Things feel a bit rushed to wrap up plot points in the last episodes. I think in general it was nice to see Peggy given more of a life away from the Van Ryn's and the ending with our Larion kiss was just what we were waiting for!
I am definitely one of the people who preferred season 2. I think it's because we just got to know more about the characters. I also really hope we get to see the people who swindled Oscar if we get further seasons. I just really wanna see him get some justice. Even if the money can't be brought back.
I agree with the young lady who stated if it doesn’t come back she will watch it over and over again… I think this is a great show and should be further invested in because it brings back the gilded age and what happened to it because society wanted to be better!
I absolutely love Gilded Age. It's so refreshing to watch a luscious, enjoyable drama that has not been written in a woke way. The stories are fabulous, costumes gorgeous and as soon as the music starts I feel good in anticipation. I so hope season 3 is written by the wonderful Julian Fellowes. It would be great if they somehow tied it in with Downton Abbey re the American heiress. There are so many ways we can look forward to the characters and story lines being developed and I was pleased to see Marian kiss the lovely son of Mrs Russell, which we did want. I've watched season 1 three times and season 2 will be watched again.
I really do hope they renew this for a third season. It is one of the VERY FEW intellectual shows on TV today. Most shows I get bored with within 3 episodes or am seriously disappointed with the second season.
In the UK they should have sold the show to ITV, a free channel - the same that Downton was on, rather than Sky Atlantic, particularly as the show appeals to an older viewer who can't be bothered with surfing through hundreds of channels on Sky.
I sadly feel this show will not be renewed due to the expense of the costumes and actors. Maybe the Max may consider a third season to tie up loose ends and give us a time jump towards 1890 With the Duke storyline we could see a younger Lord Grantham being introduced to a younger CoraLeavstein. With Miriam and Larry there is so much potential for great modern storyline around education and the great artists and architects of the time period and new money from inventions such as the alarm clocks which will make both Miriam and Larry independently wealthy along with both aunt Agnes who gave young Jack money. I really enjoyed the storyline of Peggy and her family and the Colored elite which i did not really know much about. Another channel should pickup the show from MAX if they wont renewal the Guilded Age
I think the Russells will be perfectly happy to have Marion as a daughter-in-law. When word gets out that she will most likely be a textile heiress, they could possibly have any objections.
Not everyone has max, downton Abby was on public channel wttw so a lot of people that can't afford cable or streaming saw it that way. I hope still a season 3
Oh this was 4 weeks ago. Season 3 has been announced now :) I only just finished bingeing because it was only just released in Australia on Paramount +. It will be interesting to see how well it does on Paramount +. Maybe that’s why they have announced season 3 to boost international streaming numbers. I really hope we get many more episodes. I think we will see more of Frances and Dashiel with more focus on Frances seeing Marion as a mentor and mother figure which may cause conflict with Dashiel’s new relationship. Marion and Larry will have some ups and downs but they are well suited. I just hope they don’t rush into anything. I hope Oscar finds out the truth about their good fortune before he does something drastic. So looking forward to a season 3!
read the email Max sent out to prior to season finale. They called it the “grand finale.” Doesn’t bode well. So I will make up my own endings for all the characters, and I expect it will be better than what Julian would think of so there.
I think season 2 started out slow but the last 2 episodes were fantastic and the last with the opera house and the wardrobe was amazing. They should start season 3 with the same momentum they left off with this show is growing better its gaining its footing now Ihope they bring it back I love it!!
I want a season 3, but if this is it…I’m happy! I loved everything about the season 2 ending. In my mind Larry and Marion lived happily ever after! I really want to see the Ada and Agnes new dynamic play out, I want John to make millions from his clock patent! AND I want Mrs. drama loving Fish to get more lines per episode.
Bertha might not accept Marian as Marian is not as ambitious as she is. But if she did accept, it's probably to strengthen her position among the old money as Marian has always been her savior, giving her information that helped her to be victorious.
Nah for her only her daughter is a tool into society. Larry is fine as long as he marries someone young who can produce heirs to his father's business and like you said Marian being old money blood will be really valuable to Bertha. An old money daughter in law is all she needs after the Duke son in law.
I want a third season! Julian Fellows knows history, probably a bit better than the average American viewer, and he knows that an economic contraction is about to take place (1883-1887) followed by a major one starting in 1893. That might actually destroy the Russell's. Will we see Hetty Green, who bailed out a number of NY banks?
The Gilded Age season 2 was the number one series on HBO for the entirety of its run. Each episode was the number one watched show on HBO Max every single week. As far as HBO complaining about the cost of the programming, I have just one thing to say. If you want people to pay to subscribe, you've got to give them something special. The Gilded Age is something special
I wondered if Gladys new French helper will be coming back in the next series. There was a brief shot of her putting Glady’s jewels back in a box. I wondered if it was a glimpse of what she may do with the family jewels.
Season 3 predictions: Gladys Russell will be forced to marry the Duke! George and Bertha will divorce. Oscar will find a way to get the Van Rhijn money back.
I think suicide is possible for Oscar, but that would be a real downer for the opening of season3. On the other hand he could go the redemption route by helping Jack and Larry begin their new alarm clock company. It will also be interesting to see if all the staff plus Agnes put in money so Jack could get his patent and he said he wouldn't forget it... So will they become share holders in the new company. I hope Gladys is able to get out of being forced to marry the Duke with her father's help, even if it creates a serious breech between he and Bertha. And yeah, Marian and Larry will eventually marry unless some disaster parts them forever, the pairing is too natural, too right, to end any other way than a long happily ever after marriage.
Plot twist : the Duke is actually broke and his visit to America was really to cherry pick a rich American . He needs someone rich enough to save his decaying estate back home . Its something that happen in history and would definitely add some extra tension between Bertha and George
Totally , he even told Bertha he had more to gain by siding with her ( money ) . Gladys gets to be a duchess and the Duke gets money , it happened in the past with real life heiress
😂this isn't plot twist at allllll... it's explained in the finale tf.. also this is people's prediction since before the show was even aired.. since it's the plot of Downton Abbey too
OK Im in Europe I have access to UK TV,,, I've not seen any news that Season Two is available here Much longed for I assure you... Anyone have any news...where and How I can watch it? PLEASE!!!!
I really enjoyed this show for its costumes and sets but never felt much for the individual characters. The finale wrapped up what could have been cliffhangers... I predict it will not be renewed, unfortunately.
I like Bartha but if she does end up focusing her daughter to marry the Duke and George ends up divorcing her and her kids don’t speak to her I would not blame them or have any sympathy for her. I understand that she ambitious but there has to be a point where the price is to high and selling your daughter crosses a major line that’s the point of no return. I’m glad that Ada married and had a few episodes of happiness and now she gonna get to experience what it’s like to be her sister equal not just someone who has to rely on her sister good will. I thought it was nice that Peggy father is starting to show his not this one dimensional it’s my way or the highway jerk.
The first 3 episodes had bad lighting from the start, the scenes were entirely too dark. On the 4th episode someone decided to use their mind and realize the episodes were too dark. No wonder people were dropping like flys, who wants to put up with viewing dark scenes that were overlooked by the lighting crew as well as the editor. Those diehard fans sat there and looked at the episodes in torcher.
I really hope we get a Season 3. We were left hanging with too many story lines, and I would love to find out what will happen next season. I am guessing Gladys and the Duke will get married, in spite of Gladys not being in favor. I also think Turner is going to be plotting her revenge on Bertha, and Mrs. Astor will most likely become much less important. I doubt she is going to completely give up on trying to be the primary society leader within “old money” New York.
@@jnealone That must be one of a reason why this show may get cancel. It is predictable, Bertha always get spotlights and the Russell is immune to all scandals.
@@Serena_9 Agreed, I tend to skip past most if not all parts of the episodes with Bertha in them because she's so triumphant it's hard to root for her in any way. Almost every other character & plotline in the show is more interesting than her. The most interesting thing about Bertha is the fashion forward clothes she wears but it only takes a second or 2 to look at her dresses then it's easy to move on to the other characters & stories.
IMO, if Max wants to increase viewership, this show has to stop following history so closely because it makes all plots too predictable. As is, Gladys will initially reject the Duke but end up falling in love with and marrying him, and George and Bertha, no matter what, always come out on top. Season three should focus on the staff and perhaps Agnes taking action to regain her fortune to be independent of Ada.
I think the potential for more great stories focusing on the staff is there. 2 of my fave Season 2 stories featured staff members: Jack working on his clock alarm invention & patent & Watson reuniting with his daughter who very much wanted to have her father back in her life.
Do you think The Gilded Age will get renewed for a Season 3? When looking at those viewing figures, it doesn't look promising - but we can hope! Let me know your thoughts below!
I hope so, but the season finale had a feel of a series finale. Everyone's position was improved, except for Gladys--and her father, who seemed to be concerned.
I suppose those viewing figures are not actual. The show is very popular outside US as well. When I was on my plane from Australia, they were entertaining the passengers with Gilded Age series.
All entirely depends on whether HBO thinks the ratings / viewership / streaming stats they got are worth the costs. If it doesn't, then I do like the season 2 finale as the series finale - it ends at a good spot for everyone.
If it doesn't come back I think the cost would be the reason. The cost of the costumes has to be huge! The last episode tied up most of the things I wanted but I'm sure I'm in the minority. The show has a bunch of social media people talking about it which should enter into the decision as well. Some shows just don't last more than 2 seasons and they leave people upset. People get hung up on the characters and just don't want them to go. You want long running shoes, watch Midsomer Murders. It's got 24 seasons, albeit only 6 or 8 episodes.
I really hope we get a season 3! Thank you for breaking this show down each week. You made a great point about Oscar not being around. I did have the thought he might flea or try to hurt himself .
THIS is the ONLY TV program I want to watch! If HBO does not renew, I'm going to dump HBO. All the other shows on TV aren't any good save a few news channels & the weather station. I LOVE all the characters, the acting, the story lines, and the history incorporated into the program. I hope like heck there will be a SEASON 3!
I don’t think you can judge the ratings because people like to wait until the whole season is completed Yeah, there were some mistakes the predictability, Mrs. Turner when they should’ve had Mrs. Morris etc but I think they’re going to continue it
I so want a third season! I will re-watch the first two until the hire season comes along. Happy for Peggy having the guts to move on. Dashiell was a great character, a roper gentleman and would have been a ood husband for Marion, but Larry is much better suited for her and I want to see that play out. Fingers crossed for Season Three!
I think for Season 2 they should have had the widowed Mrs. Morris marry Mr. Winterton and hire Turner as her ladies maid. That would have made a formidable enemy for Bertha and would definitely have alarmed her. It also would have been more believable as Mrs. Morris was the same class as Mr. Winterton.
That would be a great story line! I like the direction, revenge! Turner is not equal to Bertha in conning. I know it not going to happen but I would love to see Ms Chainberlin(not sure of the spelling) That would be a great story line.
I really, really, really hope that Julian Fellows will take the high road, and doesn’t mirror Consuelo Vanderbilts fate for Gladys. Frankly Gladys deserves a better fate than that, and George really loves his daughter. Hopefully he’ll figure out Bertha’s intentions quickly, and put a stop to her ambitions. I first had sympathies with Bertha’s ambitions, but she’s not very subtle, and with the Dukes storyline, she’s gone too far. She actually is pretty callous when it comes to Gladys, she’s nicer to her housekeeper, which is sad. But I do believe in George, and that he’ll save day. As for Season Three, who knows? But I’m really invested in this show, and hope that it will continue. One minor point in the finale that was curious. Did anyone notice that Agnes, for the first time, actually looked pretty when going to the Academy? The humanization of Agnes would be a great plot line, and even better, wouldn’t it be amazing if she actually found true love?
Season 3 is coming, and I am afraid that we may be set up for a Consuelo Vanderbilt plot. Consuelo was a socialite whose mother pushed her into a loveless marriage with a Duke. Consuelo almost killed herself and was miserable until the guy died. I was afraid they were going to pull this with Gladys and Oscar and breathed a sigh of relief until I saw the Season 2 finale. 😮😢
