Dude, there are 4 million acres of woods in Aroostook County Maine and only 67,000 people...it would be easy to get lost and NOT find a road or trail or people.
I lived in Vermont and it is SOOOO dark at night you can't see your hand in front of your face. I think it wouldn't be hard to get lost in Maine or Quebec. It's still pretty wild.
I loved the story, but unlike you, was so disappointed with the ending. In my opinion it needed another chapter to fully wrap up the story. It was as if King just got bored with it and wrote The End. I would say the same thing exactly about the novel, Cell. I think that ended in mid-air too and just needed a bit more at the end to finish off the story 🙂
outdoor person from the Pacific Northwest..made some mistakes and lost a trail had to make it off a mountain off trail, so lost in the woods..you could give in to fear, but you can't afford it..this book is a favorite..read more than once..this is a story about not being conquered by fear and surviving in the face of it as a nine year old girl..very well written..maybe could have wrapped the ending up better..none the less, this is one of my most loved books..and I have read just about everything King has written, and will read the rest..
Not to be *that guy* but The Blair Witch Project takes place in Maryland. Not that this diminishes your point. However, part of the horror of The Blair Witch Project is that the group *acknowledges* how hard it is to get lost in America, especially on the Eastern Seaboard. But they end going around in a circle no matter which way they go. That’s a huge part of the movie, the witch’s curse. It’s not just that they got lost. The witch was fucking with them, and they knew it.
I also study maps frequently. Always have. In fact, I spent many years as a land surveyor largely based on my enjoyment of maps and geography. I'm the dude that pulls up a map of anywhere someone mentions just to see it. It doesn't really matter the context - if it's a place I haven't been that comes up, I'm checking out a map, lol. As always, great review!
Wasn’t that the whole point of the Blair witch project. The witch or magic or whatever was keeping them from escaping. Sometimes you just gotta accept the rules of the story and enjoy the ride. No need to overthink it.
There’s few things I despise more than an e-book. Kidding not kidding. Everyone and their dog has tried for years to get me to buy an e-reader. Nope. Never. If I can’t feel the book, smell its pages, look at the cover....well, I’d rather not read at all. Yes, I suppose it’s extreme but for me at least half of the joy of reading is the feel/look of the book itself.
Mr Durfee I just wanted to take this moment to let you know how fantastic your channel is. I find we have very similar book favourites and the way in which you approach your reviews is very refreshing. Please keep up the great work and if you haven't read anything by Pat Conroy please check him out I think he will become one of your new favourites. Thanks again.
