Also, when Stu is playing Han in the FfF video, he is wearing yellow, and when Joey is talking as Han at the end of Cyboogie, he is now the one wearing yellow.
Stu Mackenzie really writes some underrated complex poetic lyrics, my god these videos show you just how deep their music actually is and that’s part of what makes them so fantastic
"How is it that he is depressed, the humans have pierced through his cheek with a hook" The "Humans" being Han-tyumi and Cyboogie/Boogie man Sam being the spy protein munt machine. Han-tyumi has pierced Cyboogie's cheek (silencing any protest) with a hook (possibly referring to a musical hook) forcing Cyboogie to dance. Han-yuni forcibly lured Cyboogie into augmentation and immortality, but at the cost of his humanity. It could also be said that in both cases of cyboogie and murder of the universe the soy-protein munt machine/cyboogie is created/augmented almost entirely for nothing but the amusement of Han-tyumi. Soy-protein muntmachine created to vomit and Cyboogie created to dance. This also falls into what Stu said when the Gizzverse was confirmed, that all the albums are connected but some may be occurring at different times or in different dimensions. ie, Murder of the universe, Sketches of brunswick east and fishing for fishies are all different takes on the same story with *almost* the same characters (spider and me=people vultures=altered beast.
Zedi gan agreed, although I wouldn’t call creating them just for vomit and dancing to be nothing. Han-tyumi wants to feel the urges of his human condition which is why he created them.
"pierced through his cheek with a hook" seems to be much more likely just referring to being fished, as if he used to be fishing and now he's the one getting fished
It should be mentioned that the transition from folk and blues rock into synths is also mirrored by the change from a 4/4 time signature to a 5/4 time signature reminiscent of polygondwanaland.
I think rather than being a part of the events of MOTU, this album is of an earlier point in the Gizzverse. In the first two songs we see Sam, the boogieman who later becomes Cyboogie, start stirring up trouble in an attempt to change the course the world is going in. He sees what we humans do to the world as unnecessarily cruel, like fishing for sport, rather than food. Much like boogiemen in children's tales he tries to scare people to make them more well behaved. Then, in "The bird song" the world is described from the perspective of various animals, who have a very different perspective from us. It shows humans as the odd ones, twisting nature to fit their unique perspective. Afterwards two sins, so to speak, of humanity are described in the songs: "Plastic Boogie", "The Cruel Millennial" and "Your Real's Not Real" The pollution of the planet with plastic, and a distancing from each other combined with a delusion that nothing bad will happed. as we progress the songs involve more electronic and less acoustic instruments, signifying a weakening of nature in the face of increased reliance on artificial things by humans. We then learn of humanities transformation to cyborgs in order to survive the conditions resulting from their behavior in "This Thing". "This thing we left outside is waterlogged" refers to the "wet" human body, that has been left behind in the transformation. Throughout the song the narrator expresses sorrow that their friend will have to go through it. There are also hints about the loss of humanity in lines such as "You're happy, when you show it I won't". The narrator is overall regretful, and as a cyborg their feelings are twisted, though not gone, and they have to "fake symptoms", and "hide their riches in embarrassing sheets" to appear human to others in an attempt to cling to humanity. The next song is "Acarine", and as I see it it's a sort of continuation of "The Bird Song", showing events from nature's perspective. This time humans are represented as an acarine as they suck the Earth's lifeblood until it cannot sustain it. In this song the music becomes fully electronic, signifying that the world is no longer suitable for life as we know them. Then comes "Cyboogie". Here, Sam becomes a Cyborg. He experiences the same emptiness as all the other cyborgs and tries to fill it by boogying and fishing. He has started partying with everyone, and fishing for sport; He was made to conform by his transformation, "The humans have pierced his cheek with a hook". It's likely that he is one of the first cyborgs or even the first, as he was aware of the consequences of ruining the planet. The song explores the discord within him, which results in nausea, that comes from the conflict between his cold cyborg self and what remained of his empathy for humanity and the world as a whole. He has become an altered version of his previous self that does all that he stood against. In the end of the song Han-Tyumi is then speaking in reverse and in the past tense, likely looking back at history, in an attempt to understand what being a human means. When he finds records of Cyboogie he thinks his nausea to be the key to his humanity, but as a confused cyborg he cannot understand the context and thinks its the ability to vomit itself that makes one human, rather than empathy. For this reason I think Cyboogie isn't the soy bean munt machine but the inspiration for it. On another note, I think the events of Nonagon Infinity and Polygondwanaland happen separately in Polygondwanaland. Polygondwanaland is described as secret and unseen, as well as primal and unaltered, unlike the rest of the world. The eremite of "Horology" is described as a vulturelike person, much like the people vultures, that I believe has resulted from the pilgrims' attempts to both achieve immortality and save Polygondwanaland from the murder of the universe. "Without us they will go to hell, we are casting spells". However, their attempts aren't as successful as they thought. When they attempted to create clones and transfer consciousness into them in gamma knife(probably using a similar procedure to an IRL gamma knife), it resulted in the not quite perfect Mr.beat. How they become or create the "People Vultures" is unclear. However, they probably are a result of trying to mix technology and magic to gain the power necessary to protect Polygondwanaland. This results in the twisted satanic tyrant, the eremite. In "Wah Wah" the failed rebellion is described, while in "Invisible Face" Han-Tyumi awakes from his pondering and murders the universe. He is "The universe's other face" to Polygondwanaland, and I believe the bean in the song refers to the soy bean munt machine which catalyzes the murder of the universe. In "Crumbling Castle" we get the castle's perspective; I believe this is specifically from the perspective of the traveler, who has gained god-like powers as well as a connection to all around him, through tetrachromacy, and seeks to protect the castle from the murder of the universe. We don't know if they manage it only that they tried really hard. As for the events of FMB and the first half of MTU, I believe this is all the aftermath of humanities actions in "normal earth", which eventually lead to the full cyborgization of humanity.
It always mezmerized me how certain people are able to craft such complex stories through a long period of time. Let alone weaving it into music across a myriad of genres. Amazing research, looking forward for the next chapter.

Brilliant vid, probably on my fifth watch already. When you compared Cyboogie to Soy-Protein Munt Machine at first I thought ‘surely not’, because I had just assumed Cyboogie was about Han-Tyumi. But actually, the lyric “palpitations and nausea ensue,” probably confirms that it isn’t Han-Tyumi (as he can not feel such a thing) as well as the link between the two songs.

I had a theory that FfF and Rats Nest were a prelude to Nonagon Infinity, and that the events of those albums were why the 7 wise men sought Nonagon Infinity
It’s possible. I’ve seen a few other interpretations that have made sense to me and I don’t think there’s necessarily one definite right answer. Rats nest seems like it could be the journey into hell and maybe after nonagon infinity opened the doors to it

No, it's Stu singing 'Evil Gas', and there's also the 'message' from Han-Tyumi. I'm not sure if the evil gas part is intentional though, but it could potentially be referencing carbon, which is the gas that most contributes to pollution and is also what plastic is mostly made of. Hence 'evil gas'. Just a theory though.
@@lukebradford you can literally check and hear that Stu is singing "Cyboogie" throughout the whole reversed part. Han-tyumi's part (in reverse) ends with the line "Cyboogie, Cyboogie" which is why, played normally, he starts with what might sound like "evil gas". I don't think you're meant to read into it that much.
Ironic that Han-Tyumi is sad over the cruel harvesting of animals for food when he ends up selfishly torturing Cyboogie turning him into a vomit machine purely to feel human again. Maybe he or humanity deserved to be punished but what was done to him seemed cruel and terrible

I just thought that maybe Boogieman Sam, being the crazy guy he is, displeased with being transformed into a cyborg, can possibly be the serial killer in Paper Maché Dream Balloon.
@@motioninart Many believe the whole album is the story of a crazed serial killer. Cold Cadaver and N.G.R.I. being great examples. Ngri stands for Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity, Cold Cadaver is about a dead body, and other songs have lyrics, some more explicit than others, about things related to killing people. Some people think it's a kind of Leatherface situation where the killer turns his victims into balloons. This idea is supported by a Reddit qna Stu did where he said PMDB is about taking your "problems" and turning them into something else
My theory is that Cyboogie is symbolic of the first of the cyborgs. When mankind switched to being cyborgs they began by taking the worst members of society and made them into machines as a test. Once we knew it worked on Boogieman Sam, we could proceed with the transition for the rest of humanity.
This is almost incomprehensible as a linear story, its more of a mythos with shared characters and myths. That's my opinion anyways. Their music is incredible, can't wait to see them at Red Rocks.
I think Cyboogie is set very soon after Han-Tyumi converts himself into a cyborg. He transforms bc he feels guilty that humans are destroying the environment and thinks the only way to fix this is to create a new body that is not reliant on natural resources. When he realises this is possible it gives him a power rush, so he goes and finds his old nemesis Boogieman Sam and turns him into a cyborg too as an experiment. After this, there is some kind of catalyst event that I don't know about which makes Han want to regress and go inside himself to meditate (he mentions his in MotU at some point, I think). After meditating for a long time, he realises he misses his humanity, but he has forgotten almost everything about human life and emotions. He wants to feel human but retains his god complex, so he creates Soy Protein Munt Machine out of the remains of Cyboogie. He feels immense power over SPMM, and this signifies that he truly has lost the last shred of his humanity, as the real human experience is to feel powerless

I feel like the crocodile from the river, fishies and other media of the wizards, is some sort of being who has been here from the beginning of the gizzverse and will hopefully be the foil to han-tyumi

Cyboogies cavity chest -- Didnt the man turned altered beast find he had a cavity in his chest himself that could only be filled by feasting upon human flesh? Cyboogie was told to dance with the devil, the Recitant Rancour proclaimed itself to be the "Demon Bearing Misery and Fear" who spied him "Convulsing from way over here" What if he was spied dancing and it was misinterpreted as convulsing?

It would make sense that fishing for fishies as an album talks about Boogeyman Sam's transition from being careless from his actions to being hyper aware of the environment around him after interacting with the fish statue and deciding to become the first cyborg. It makes sense with his uncomfortable feelings as it's the first time this has been done. It doesn't make sense to me that han-tyumi not only had a disdain of humans "vomiting" and destroying the world around them and also wanting to "vomit" and destroy the universe. Idk it doesn't feel right that this describes han-tyumi because his reason for becoming a cyborg was because he was the last human and didn't want to die. I'm not 100% educated on this so I'm I'm wrong feel free to tell me
Interesting. I hadn’t connected boogie man Sam with cyboogie but now I see. That being said, idk if I’d so easily say Han Tyumi is in any albums other than motu, though I definitely think cyborgs are involved with most of the albums for sure. It’s clear from nonagon and ITRN that devils most likely also exist in the mix of all this which is something we have yet to really understand quite on the same level as the cyborgs.
Then again there are several other songs that are from the point of view of cyborgs (fourth color and all is known come to mind) and they don't sound like Han Tyumi so i guess it is distinct to him.
@@lancearmada i'd say it's likely that Han-Tyumi isn't the only cyborg and that others have done it as well, potentially the rich who live on mars which could explain how they could actually survive there (assuming they haven't terraformed the planet)
One thing that didn't seem right in your analysis is that you were assuming that han-tyumi was originally human, however, in MOTU his whole schtick was that he wanted to experience human sensations, like vomiting, thus meaning he was originally a robot since he had never felt those feelings before.
Great video. I actually disagree that boogieman sam is cyboogie b/c in the MOTU chapter, it says "hello - my name is Han-Tyumi. I am a cyborg" but when he says cyborg it sounds like cyboogie. I remember the boys saying that's how they got the name for the song.
I was high when I typed this, disregard. I thought it was important to how the balrog was one of the failed coup plotters, who was brought back to life as the Balrog. I thought maybe they were the same character, but "Sam" is who the Balrog was before being imprisoned. It's a stretch, I know.

during the fourth colour at the end of polygondwanaland which in parallel is somewhere near the beginning of fishing for fishies (when in the video he swims down and comes across the fish-god statue)
