Where I grew up, people who don’t own horses but like taking care of them can go to stables where people own horses and groom the ones the owner can’t groom for the day (supervised at first, naturally, and only with the owner’s consent) and if the owners don’t want that, the stable owners offer to do it for a fee
I’ve actually groomed quite a lot of horses that way without ever owning a horse XD the stable owner offered riding lessons on their own horses at the time, that’s how I originally ended up visiting those stables
I'm surprised something like that doesn't exist already, I know there are people who will do one-off grooms but you gotta book in advance - someone could make a fortune doing "Uber groom" but I imagine the variability in income is why it doesnt exist?

I almost puked on a lesson pony l told my friend that I felt like I was gonna puke and she called the instructor over luckily I got out of the area before I puked and kept puking for the rest of the day 😭💀 I am sorry it’s a really gross story

Omg this is what I’m for!!! I come over once a week to take care of the horses, brush them, feed them, walk them, lunge them etc etc etc. But when their owner is sick or on vacation I make time to be there every single day and all the chores get done. Good thing about this is that the horses already know and trust me, same with their owner. We’ve had this arrangement for close to a year now so she knows I won’t do any silly things with her horses.
Sign me up as a groom, haha... I can't stand people, but I love horses, and I always need more money to ride MORE, so yeah... That sounds great for everyone who would be involved. It should really happen, guys...
I would love to be an uber-groom. I don’t really care for riding, yes I like it, but I mainly just love spending time with horses, so having just the groom part? Amazing
I have a bad back and both my ponies also currently have a bad back so I need to give them certain stretches several times a week. It doesn't matter if I'm hurting, I do my best to give them as much as I can without compromising my own health but I'm sharing this because no one will tell you that the reality of having horses is no matter how you feel or what the weather your horses need you to care for them. They are like big toddlers. If toddlers actually had some common sense lol
My grandma has been “Uber grooming” for decades 😂 she loves to help people, but loves their horses even more. It’s fun to know all of our local barns by name and be able to name the horses as we drive past
I feel you on this one I have had covid and my horse decided she was going to kick her pasture buddy so now my horse has a hematoma on her butt and a abscess in her foot
That’s why I always try to find those one or two students that have potential but no money that are of somewhat legal age and I slowly train them to be able to do just that come in feed possibly depending on my feeding situation and how easy it is or at the very least Hey, the horses and water and groom in an exchange they get a free lesson or two
Uber groom should totally be a thing. Until then, a good barn buddy or trusted working student depending on your situation is your best bet. Had a barn buddy for a while (before she had the audacity to move) that we’d call each other if we were really unwell. We were at a full care barn so at least even if you didn’t show your horse would be fed and the stall & run would be cleaned twice a day. But it was really nice on those couple days a year when you were too ill to really even take care of yourself to have someone who could at least give your horse a quick once over with a hoof pick and a dandy brush, check blankets in bad weather, and get in a quick 20 minute longe session and a few minutes of turnout in the indoor arena or dry lot (depending on weather) so they could stretch/roll/play.
That would be like the fastest growing multi million employment boom… I remember when I had horses and honestly? The chance for a day with a Trustworthy, experienced groom to cover your day off?! Sign me up!!
Uber groom.is like a pflegebeteiligung (yk when someone, for free gets to ride the horse on days you cant, but for that also takes care of the horse. Isn't thst also common?
