Thanks for the great video Jason. Unfortunately, the new branding seems very generic and reminds me of craft paper during art time back when I was a weee lad. Atleast the old brand was well “known” for being bad. That in itself gave it familiarity..

I think I noticed the word GLENALLACHIE embossed right below the front label on the new bottle. Even though color choices like the light blue and Olive green are not very attractive, I prefer the new layout.

In all honesty I did love the 15 from '21 and '22 but opened one a few weeks ago and was shocked at how "hot" it was. However I know in 6 months it will be amazing 😉 In comparison, the new 15, is way less hot from the get go, but it does tend more towards a meaty chocolate coffee concoction (I am sipping it now). Very different to the old bottling which is sweetness. Both are good and the packaging is now better 😏

Raises the question, Jason, how would you compare the 10 y/o cask strength Batch 10 versus this new 15 y/o? Which do you prefer?

I never liked the oold font & I don't like the new one either. The letters are too squashed together and too tall in relation to their width. I do like the two left justified lines below - that looks less cluttered than the centred original. Not a fan of the new colours either - a bit too pastel for my liking. and as for the tasting notes... they have always been flowery rubbish. Glenallachie is trading HARD on Billy Walker's celebrity, and are obviously dialling up the volume of output. Lets see if the new juice is as good as what he inherited...

I don't really care too much what the packaging looks like, either old or new. What matters for me is the taste. The old packaging is/has become recognisable/familiar, but the new will presumably do likewise with time. Same as with other packaging/labelling changes like Benromach, etc. I had mistakenly thought the old 15 was finished only in Oloroso casks, but at least local retailers today mention PX as well alongside photos of the old label, so either I was mistaken or there was an earlier change? I'm curious about your discussion of sherry casks because you mention the "old days" and casks with real sherry in them for ~4-5 years. I don't say you're necessarily mistaken but am curious about what you mean/are referring to? Before the current era of sherry-seasoned casks was the preceding era of travel casks, in which sherry was put into non-solera casks for travel to the UK which thus may have seasoned the casks for as little as a few months, or maybe a year or more. OK, yes, in theory some sherry may have sat in cask in a UK warehouse for a long time before bottling and sale, but that will have been fairly exceptional. Yes, this was all drinking sherry rather than the current precedent to sherry vinegar that's used to season casks in the Jerez region now, but not all bottled sherry back then was necessarily top-grade stuff. Yes, it was different from sherry syrup, but there was also paxarette used for awhile--another can of worms. But what seems clear is that these were *almost* never ex-solera casks, the casks in which sherry is "made"/matured. Ex-solera casks were not desirable for the whisky industry, mostly, because they were all *inactive* US oak, and all one size: butt. No sherry is made using active wood, and there's no point to a more expensive European oak cask if its going to be inactive--might as well just use the customary and a lot cheaper US oak for that. A neutral, slightly-porous container is what sherry soleras require, and if such a cask is still "good"/non-leaky then it's too precious to the sherry industry to be used for something one-off like shipping/travel. The whisky industry, for the *most* part, instead wanted more active wood, and sometimes European oak, and sometimes smaller sizes such as hogsheads, etc. One exception I have read about is Dailuaine distillery which did favour ex-solera casks despite their wood being inactive. Other exceptions may be distilleries experimenting with Palo Cortado, Manzanilla, or other such (for whisky) relative rarities where they *may* be ex-solera rather than seasoned.

I prefer the old look Glen Allachie products . The new ones will have to get a much better use to🐵🦔🐧🐻

Speyburn 15...not a sherry bomb completely but tastes better for me than old GlenAllachie 15...and cheaper)

The old labels so much better and unique. The new packaging was not and is not needed. It looks somehow more amateurish and cheap.
