The Glenlivet 15 Year French Oak Reserve

Episode 128. The Glenlivet for me tends toward caramel and vanilla with a characteristic nose of cut orchard fruits, like pear and red apple. This bottle stays in that range, but adds some oak, light spice, and a pleasant coating in the mouth. I appreciate this bottle more now than I did a few years ago and would certainly look for it when it goes on sale. I apologize for the audio here, I seem to be having trouble with my mic, and the wind picked up a bit too. What do you think of the Glenlivet 15 year old? #whiskyfabric#whiskytube#whiskyneighbour

Neighbor Jon - I think the wind filter worked just fine....and it's killing me down here in Arizona to see you all bundled up. We're so ready for scarf-weather!! Really enjoyed this review, and have to really appreciate the palate progression alongside you. Neighbor Jon, it takes time, but what a worthy and rewarding pursuit! Recently I've been enjoying a revisit of the R.L Seale's 10yr Barbados Rum (no additives). Six years ago, I was underwhelmed, but now it's a "wow""! Great to see you, and enjoy that cool breeze!! 💨💨💨

If I could move it south, I would. I hope you get some cool weather soon. Thanks for letting me know the filter helped. I was not happy with the noise! Cheers!

Thank you Jon! Good comparison , and i actually thought the noise was traffic going by until you indicated it was the wind. Cheers!

Thanks Gary. I tried to run a wind filter in processing, but it only partially worked. Take care!

If you get a chance, you should try the crown royal french oak from their noble collection. I know it's not scotch but the flavor to me screamed oak and found myself sipping all day until the smooth taste made me walk funny and nap great! Lol! Cheers my friend. Thanks again for the review

Great review, John! That bottle sounds really good, something about French oak that's adds additional depth of flavor to a whisky. Great notes on your review. I always enjoy GlenLivet. Cheers brother!

I'm so glad you did this one. I've had the 12 and it was my Gateway to Scotch. My friend had the 18 and let me try it...we almost finished the bottle. It was very creamy, nutty and subtle. So smooth. I've always wondered about the 15yrs. Great review! Thanks Jon!!!
@WhiskyNeighbour
@WhiskyNeighbour 4 года назад
I would suggest this has some of that creamy character with a little more oak spice. Clearly in the family.

Thanks Jon. Another one a regular Joe can get and afford. I get this bottle for the holidays and finish it with friends in a few weeks. The top notes fade pretty quickly on this one. It shows it's beauty early and in a quiet place. I think I'll finally get the Glenfiddich 15 this time for holiday.

Hi Jon great video. I'm the same as you . A while ago if a whisky was a little soft I would often dismiss it thinking its a bad whisky but my palate has changed. I'm enjoying quite a range of whiskies that are only bottled at 40%. My whisky of the year last year was the Glenlivet 18 whisky is very soft and gentle.

Thanks. I wish we could! At least we can through this format. I try to just pour and share my thoughts, which means sometimes they work, while others, not so much. Do you appreciate all types of whisky or do you tend to have a favourite?

Nice review Jon🙂 My buddy Simon swears by Glenlivet, I tend to think they are a bit boring, but the French oak finish gives it something extra with the oak and the pepper that improves their whisky😋

Catching up on your older videos. I like both 15 year olds but seem to enjoy the Glenlivet a bit more. Wine and Beyond has Glenfiddich on for $52 right now and Glenlivet for $65 at the middle of February. Both prices are very good for a 15 year old. Thanks Jon, cheers!

@@WhiskyNeighbour It's totally about the flavours for me. I think Glenlivet has a better taste on the palate, again it's just personal preference. I did buy another bottle of Glenfiddich though. It's a great buy when you can get a 15 year old for $52 and a nice dram to share with people who don't drink a lot of scotch.

Whisky Neighbour i am more into blended whisky like JW, chivas, monkey shoulder as i am a beginner but i am trying to up my game. As of now the only single malts Ive had are glenlivet 12 and glenfiddich 12. I was thinking to buy a bottle of The Glenlivet 15 but I’ve heard better reviews about the 18 so I think ill go for the 18.
@WhiskyNeighbour
@WhiskyNeighbour 3 года назад
@@MahirTandon The 18 is better, but often costs significantly more too. I prefsr Glenfiddich 15 to the Glenlivet 15. More fruit.

Whisky Neighbour thanks for the suggestion😊 i ended up buying the chivas 18 yesterday as i got a good deal on it . The Glenlivet 18 was available but it was the 40%abv batch reserve variant for a 110$. The chivas 18 was just 80$ it was a very tempting price for a 18 year old scotch. I think my next bottle will be the glenfiddich 15 as you suggested.
