Like the outstanding and best-selling business book upon which it is based written by Dr. Eliyahu M. Goldratt, this movie (www.toc.tv/player/the-goal-mo...) brilliantly explains with day to day examples the concepts that boost performance in productivity.
This movie presents a very direct approach to the Five Focusing Steps, concepts of the Theory of Constraints, and their application to your organization.

It's broken down and simplified giving the viewer gather basic understanding of TOC, it's a vast subject with countless other elements and would take time to master, thanks for sharing.

I'm currently reading the book. It seems that Al and all of the managers/heads don't really know what they're producing and why. It reminds me of the movie Back To School with Rodney Dangerfield where he schools the business professor on how business works in the real world. Rodney's character asks the professor what product the fictional plant is manufacturing and the professor says tape recorders. Rodney's character says, "Tape recorders? The Japs will kill us!" Any organization has to start with the fundamental question of what good or service it's providing then ask why it's providing that good or service. Al's company doesn't seem to know why it's in business in the first place.

Great audiobook. Eventhough the characters start as total idiots, like the question on the video on the word bottleneck: "My what?" JIT was introduced to me in the basic economics lesson at the technical university. Would the plant managers not read the latest scietifical articles or use consultants that do on the 70's? I hope the book would take the concept much futher. And why such a lost plant manager doesn't seek the counsel of another consultant if the one that he happens to meet at the airport is too busy to help. Nice story, but could be more realistic.

slow the pace, but keep it consistent

Another concept shown in the movie: balance flow, not capacity. The rate at which the system performs is the rate at which the constraint is maximized.

The entire system slows to match the slowest person or machine
@LearningTOC

The entire system is subordinated (one of the "five focusing steps" shown in the movie) to the "entity" that determines the systems output. Maximizing the output of any other "entity" (contrary to subordination) yields to jeopardizing the output of the entire system.

They have to walk 5 miles. After 2 miles and 100 yards they decide to have Herbie in front. Then they walk some before they take lighten his backpack. And they the last 4 miles went quicker.. I believe that the problem is that Mr. Rogo is bad at math 🤣 Also if three machine produce 10 items per hour on a conveyor belt, the last machine will be idle for 12 minutes before the first produced item of the first machine reaches it. This concept has an issue with basic math.
@doctormoobbc
@doctormoobbc Год назад
It would only be idle for 12 minutes once. Not 12 minutes every hour, so the idle time in this situation isn't an issue because if you keep the flow consistent from that point forward then you will be producing reliably every hour.
@alexlindbjerg8283
@alexlindbjerg8283 Год назад
@@doctormoobbc The production cycle will begin with 1 unit of idle time for the second machine and 2 units for the third machine. The first machine ends the production cycle with 2 units of idle time, the second machine with 1 unit of time. The production cycle will have constant of 6 units of idle time. Identififying the constants is what underpins the reliablity. The idle time of starting and stopping the production will be a constant. And to think that the production will move forward unhindered in perpetuity is a recipe for disaster.

Thank you for sharing your thinking on the matter. Well, you are ignoring reality where variability exists (uneven path, Herbies, etc). Henry Ford resolved (kind of) the variability problem by putting severe limitations: inventing the conveyor belt AND stating that the customer can have any color he wishes as long as it is black.... The Goal Movie gives you a comprehensive understanding of what is needed to maximize throughput where dependency and variability coexist.

@@LearningTOC I never read the section in The Princpiles of Sceintific Management where Frederick Taylor explained how 4+2=5. But hey, please point to the section where he disproves basic math and I will carry the torch for you and him..

Las matemáticas son ciencias exactas. Pero no son las matemáticas qué trabajan con personas ni con máquinas, por eso 2 personas + 2 personas haciendo algo puede ser 3 o 4 o 5 en entrega de resultados o quien sabe.....
