May 2nd, 2009, the second last game of the 08/09 season. Raith Rovers travelled to Hampden Park to face Queens Park while Ayr United welcomed Alloa Athletic to Somerset Park. If Ayr failed to take all 3 points from this match, then a win for Raith would see them crowned champions.
Over 1,200 Rovers fans followed the team through to Glasgow more in hope than expectation that the league could be won that day, but after just 45 seconds they were in dreamland as Graham Weir volleyed home what would prove to be a league winning goal for the Kirkcaldy side.
News reached Ayr that Raith were winning and they stepped up a gear and managed to take a 1 goal lead, but they couldn't hold on and 16 year old Greig Spence equalised for Alloa in the second half sending the Raith fans wild back at Hampden.
The scores stayed the same and when the full time whistle went the Raith players and fans celebrated winning the championship, and promotion back to the first division.
